Swansea Again Target Priskin Loan
Swansea Again Target Priskin Loan
Wednesday, 23rd Mar 2011 22:03

Swansea have renewed their interest in taking Town striker Tamás Priskin on loan, according to sources in South Wales. The Swans, managed by Priskin’s former Watford boss Brendan Rodgers, targeted the 24-year-old last summer and just before Christmas.

Rodgers, who was in charge of the Hornets during Priskin’s most productive season in English football, is reported to have revealed that he is close to landing a loan striker ahead of Thursday’s 5pm deadline at a supporters' event this evening.

Town manager Paul Jewell has consistently bemoaned his side’s failings in front of goal but is unlikely to allow any of his strikers to move on until someone else comes in, with Priskin, Jason Scotland, another recent Swansea target, and Connor Wickham the only strikers currently in his squad.

Priskin failed to make much of an impact during his first season with the Blues, moving to QPR on loan in January 2010 having scored only twice in the first half of the 2009/10 campaign.

This campaign started more positively but the Hungarian international has been in and out of the side under both Jewell and Roy Keane and has still managed only seven goals, most notably the winner in the Carling Cup first leg victory over Arsenal.

Priskin, who is currently away with his national squad ahead of two games with Holland, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2012.

Earlier today Jewell said he had made enquiries regarding loan players with a striker likely to be amongst his targets.

Meanwhile, Jewell and coach Sean McCarthy were spotted watching Colchester's 1-0 victory over Oldham on Tuesday.

Skillful player, nice touches - as someone said earlier - a bit like Pablo. But also just like Pablo, he doesn't score enough goals. Waste of time playing him up front on his own, he'd do better in a partnership with a proper goal poacher alongside him.

arsenal memories i keep reading? yes he scored but if not for that was worst player on the pitch! control and ability to hold the ball is beyond hopeless!

Cox, and or Sharpe ? No, then please play two up front, Priskin and Scotland. With their differing skills they should be able to make a desent strike force together. Just try it - please !

hes awful!! let him go!! he is so lazy!! and when he does run, he runs the channels - not really what you want when he's playing up front by himself as then there is no one at all in the middle, because martin loves playing very wide which is good, but doesnt help Priskin.

Budgieplucker not the whole story there. Most of them were when he started to improve around September/October time but gas gone back to last season.

He didn't even look interested against Watford, his old club, while getting stick from their fans then when can you motivate yourself

I have mixed feelings on this. He is skillful but very inconsistent. I don't much go for Scotland either and in an ideal football world we wold find two new recruits and get rid of both of them!

On an aside, looking at budgie pluckers little table above, we wonder why Peters hasnt been given more of a chance...?

Neither priskin or Scotland will have a role to play next season, I think that is clear, with regards to priskins loan I hope he goes out there scores a few goals and helps the swans take that automatic spot from the scum. In turn we get better value for a poor championship striker in my opinion and many others it seems...

Like many on here, I think Priskin has got the arsenal (forgive the pun) to be a good Championship striker. I accept, however, he has not performed consistently and so successive managers have quickly lost faith. Those who rubbish him on here are no doubt the ones who have similarly slagged off McAuley, Martin et al and cannot wait for another player to target. Priskin was picked on from the start against Watford but there were 10 others who were similarly poor that night but he has become such an easy prey. We don't deserve a successful team at Ipswich with our fickle approach.

At the end of the day, GK are there to make saves, Defenders are there to stop the opposing forwards, Midfielders are there to break up play & create, & Strikers are there to score goals, unfortunately Priskin just doesn't score anywhere near enough, It's ok being able to have a good touch, hold the ball up & any other number of skills, but it's goals that win games, PJ has already identified the problem & I agree 100% with him, we don't have someone who is prepared to chase a lost cause or stick there head in the danger zone, someone who can score a scrappy goal when you need one. this is why (if finances allow) PJ should get shot of Priskin, Scotland, Lisbie & Counago in the summer, free the wages up & sign at least 2 hungry, pacey & determined Strikers who will do the job. (aswell as signing Big Mac, Delaney, Norris & Bullard, a new RB, poss a new LB, & a new GK!!!!!) (boy, it's gonna be a busy summer!!!)

I have mates who are life long Watford fans. they told me when he signed that you would get 1 good game in 6 out of him. In fact that was pretty good judgement of both him and the Dick who bought him.

Bit of an enigma. Obviously has skill and has suffered because of lack of support (both on and off the field!) But surely a real goalscorer should rise above these difficulties and put the ball in the net anyway on a reasonably regular basis. I feel he may yet come good, but I don't think it will be for us. If he went to Swansea and caused the big white bird to get the automatic promotion spot and not the little yellow one, then that would be worthwhile in itself! Wish him well!

Wonder who they were watching at the Col U v Oldham game... not sure if we'd want any of the Colchester strikers and Oldham were awful!

He's hardly likely to be given a chance next season when we've spent however many millions on our 25 goal a season striker. At the start of the season, every point counts as we all think we have a chance of promotion. If we had played Murray for a few games he might have forced himself into consideration for a placce in the team/squad. Sending him on loan means he won't have a chance till the fag end of next season. I would rather have put Murray and Wickham up front to see what happens rather than watch another game with Scotland/Priskin. This loan is even more foolish if we now let Priskin go to Swansea.

Agree DJ, giving Murray a run out up front with Wickham against the likes of Scunthorpe, would surely have been worthwhile, i also agree that if we do let Priskin go to swansea on loan, this would seem foolish & leave us a little short on numbers, but this may also mean we can expect a loan striker today perhaps!?!?!? LETS HOPE SO!!

Please dont let him go for the simple reason he will weaken the Swansea squad which will benefit norwich. Sell him in the summer.

i dont mind if he goes if we get cox. I would love to see the likes of Cox, Sharp and Long playing there trade at ipswich.

In my view Priskin is technically gifted but over deliberates before he shoots and his inability to strike when the oron is hot has cost us in some games. As for Scotland he has impressed me even less. he looks over weight and is a plae shadow of his former self when he was with Swansea a few seasons ago. I think if P.J. could recruit a couple more strikers maybe from the lowere leagues or from some of the unfashionable clubs here in the Netherlands then he could let them both go gladly!

I'd rather they would loan Scotland than Prickskin.

Norwich have just signed two strikers on loan http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/norwich/9434413.stm

Hope we can do something similar before deadline , can then have a good look before signing or not in the summer.

Please please keep Priskin ahead of Scotland, he's more skillful and not as lazy, runs the channels better jumps up for the ball when the only time Scotland's feet are off the ground is when he is sitting on the pitch arms outstretched appealling for a free kick.

Lets not bve too harsh on Tamas, a while ago everyone was singing his praises. he's a decent lad but just hasn't reached his potential with us, send him out on loan and play some of the youngsters.

Lets get playing a 442 with an experienced striker coming in to help with the progress of Connor.

Realistcially connor has one season left with us, lets get a decent striker to play with him and who knows, if we get promoted he might stay.

But seriously lay off Tamas, he still wears the blue of the Town.
