McLoughlin and Academy Duo Released
McLoughlin and Academy Duo Released
Tuesday, 5th Apr 2011 18:10

Town will release Republic of Ireland U21 international keeper Ian McLoughlin and academy second-year scholars Rory McKeown and Josh Meekings at the end of the season.

McLoughlin, who has been on the bench for the first team without making an appearance, is currently on loan at Stockport County in League Two. The 19-year-old joined Town from Dublin club St Francis is January 2009.

Defenders Meekings and McKeown, a Northern Ireland U19 international, have played for the reserves this season in addition to being regulars for the U18s.

Boss Paul Jewell says letting youngsters go is the hardest thing he has to do: "It's the worst part of a manager's job, telling young players that we will not be keeping them on.

"But the challenge for those boys now is to go on and have a career in the game elsewhere. We will do everything we can to help them achieve that, and wish them all the best for the future."

Shame. thought McLoughlin might have been a useful back up next year.

Best of luck boys. Keep working hard and you will be ok.

Phil, didn't you report earlier that Josh Meekings was one who was set to make the step up alongside Lavery?

Thought there would be more.

I thought Meekings would be kept on, to be honest. Not surprised re McLoughlin or McKeown though.

I think Carson, the Cropper (sp?) and Lavery were the main stand outs in the youth team really. Not the best under 18 lot.

bluelady - am guessing this is just the youth lads. Counago and Pablo will almost certainly be released.

Good luck to them all. McLoughlin will find a league club easily. He has been terrific for Stockport. Wouldn't be surprised to see him lining up against Ipswich in a few years time. Just didn't quite have enough to make the grade here in the end.

Counago and Pablo? lol - no wonder he seemed to play so different from week to week - he's schizophrenic.

Can't call lisbie a disaster, didn't like him toward the end but watch 08/09 highlights, he scored a few and wasn't a terrible player. Hope Counago and Pablo stay.

Bit of a shame for McLoughlin a half decent league 2 keeper at 19 isnt bad, keep him for a few years and send him out on loan and in time could end up being a good keeper for us.

Good luck boys. Hope you do well - except against us of course.

No shock with McLoughlin. He's a good keeper but we have too many of them and it's fair that he gets a chance elsewhere.

Understandable, but still a sad time for them. Can totally understand PJ saying that its the worst part of his job. Anyway, all the best lads for your futures and stick with it.

We have to give Pablo and Counago one more chance, PJ is yet to see either of them play so keep the Spanish boys purlease!!

Think we should keep Counago and release Pablo. Not much point though, Pablo would just keep hanging around if Counago stayed.

Best of luck to them all, not ideal, and you never know how they might mature at slightly different rates, and still make the grade later on. Don't give up.
