Delaney Out for Six Weeks Tuesday, 8th Nov 2011 16:36
Town defender Damien Delaney is expected to be out of action for around six weeks after undergoing surgery on the stress fracture of his foot he suffered during the recent defeat to Crystal Palace.
Boss Paul Jewell said: "Damien has a stress fracture of his foot and he's going to be out for a little while.
"He had an operation yesterday and he will be out for a while, maybe six weeks or so, but I'm not sure on an exact timescale so we will have to just wait and see."
The Blues boss has had better news regarding Lee Bowyer, Daryl Murphy and Nathan Ellington: "Lee Bowyer and Daryl Murphy did some running with the physios today, so those two are progressing nicely, and Duke's calf is OK now.”
Bowyer had been suffering with back and hamstring problems, while Murphy pulled his hamstring in the reserves defeat to Arsenal last Tuesday.

how much are we paying for Murphy and how many games has he played??? no news on Sonko then or are we keeping that one quiet? With Del out and Collins going back soon we are again back to being very short on centre backs. Ingermarsson has looked far from match fit and sadly will not be able to play week in week out without injury so we are back then to Ainsley and Smith, deep joy!

oh god, as much as he's that bad, this doesn't bode well..

Oh dear we are in trouble if bluelady is thinking negatively. Cheer up, I'm sure we'll play better against Forrest. With no more poor displays and a good run we can still make the play-offs.

Although Delaney has been poor, he still looked better than the terrible Ingimarsson. Not a good purchase by PJ. We lose Collins soon, so it's worrying. Sonko has done well, but he is yet another injury prone player. Yes, he looks good for a few games but then he misses a few. We need consistency and as many stated when PJ started to rely on loans - you simply won't get it with that approach - nor by signing injury-prone has beens on free transfers. I really dislike PJ's ethos of signing mainly older players/loans (with exception of Cresswell, JET and Chopra) - I simply don't see how we are building a team.

Unless you've got players like Messi good football teams are built from the back - if you don't concede you don't lose. The common denominator in most of what decent performances we've had this season is Sonko. So more than anything quality cover for him please

'I really dislike PJ's ethos of signing mainly older players/loans@ With limited funds there's little else he can do. Imjury prone players know they have limited baragining power and so will settle for what's on offer. Those with potential don't need to or do so either. That's why we are cluttered up with crocks and cast offs. The bigger fear must be what will happen come next summer. If this is the best we can conjure up after an £8m transfer fee then what on earth will we be able to bring in then ? Bearing in mind that 18 of them are out of contract and a few don't appear to want to sign another contract. Fine if they are not wanted but something has to be very wrong when those we do want to sign don't want to stay.

Clough and Robson both said it, a team needs a "spine" down the middle of the park and from that you build. GK to striker. We've lacked that for years with different managers and teams. Look back (or at) successful clubs and they have it.

You bunch of tw@ts slagging him off, you wouldn't have the guts to say it to his face, I wouldnt say hes the best centre half the club have ever had but he's still an Ipswich player ffs

Damn. I do not want Ivar in the team. As much as Delaney has his faults, he is much maligned for no apparent reasons at times IMO.

Usual gloom and doom on here.
garethch added 21:41 - Nov 8
You're not wrong alfromcol. I think we're only 1 more loss away from "Jewell out" posts. Yet a month ago it was "we're going up, we're going up" & a month before that it was "Jewell's clueless". Long season everyone...we all need to vent every now and then but let's try to stay balanced
churchmans added 21:49 - Nov 8
we are staying balanced you said it yourself. month ago it was 'we're going up' this month it will be 'jewell out' thats what you call balanced. who's next forest away? rejuvanted under cotterill! oh dear
Garv added 23:04 - Nov 8
Rejuvenated under Cotterill? The team that lost 3-0 at the weekend?

Starting to think Damien Delayed-Knee is better than Ingy after saturday's shambles.

good. he's awful anyways, god knows how he makes international squad

On a positive note, at least we might get forced into playing our best team when some of the oldest get crocked, I.e. some of our young stars might get a chance.
arablue added 00:49 - Nov 9
I know some are not big fan of Damien but to say that its "good" that he is injured simply beggars beyond belief...
Keaneish added 07:24 - Nov 9
Not really arablue - as Delaney is directly responsible for the second largest defeat since I've been old enough to support town embarrassing the club on national TV and still getting paid a hefty sum for performing abysmally or being on the treatment table I stand by my comment. Good. The treatment table is the best place for him for the team at present. I personally won't forgive him or leadbitter for their disgraceful performances against Peterborough and would rather they never wore a town shirt again.
