Bruce Claimed to Be a Town Target Sunday, 4th Dec 2011 10:00
Town view recently sacked Sunderland manager Steve Bruce as a possible replacement for Paul Jewell, according to claims in one of this morning’s tabloids. Bruce, the father of ex-Blue Alex, left the Black Cats after two and a half years this week.
With Town’s run of defeats stretching to seven against Watford on Saturday, names of potential new bosses are starting to surface with Twitter claims of Peterborough’s Darren Ferguson being lined up and former Cardiff boss Dave Jones also rumoured to be a possible successor to Jewell.
Despite the run of losses, owner Marcus Evans gave his backing to the current incumbent on Wednesday, while Jewell ruled out resigning, and a change appears unlikely to be immediately in the offing.

I think the club needs to get in a younger manager in, who's hungry for it and will understand the history of this club. Like people have said Lee Clark or someone like that. Hay what about Paolo Di Canio????? Paul jewel is a has been.

I said Curbishley when Magilton was sacked but how about and i will get slated for this but before you do we could never afford him, a cheeky punt on Rafael Benitez. If Evans is gonna throw money at the team why not at the manager, but I think Curbishley is a more realistic option.

Bruce? God no! More of the same if you ask me. Go out and get Curbishley or someone in his mould who knows how to build a team from the ground up.

New manager or not were going nowhere fast!, still think its gonna get worse before it gets better and by that i mean league 1 here we come! and we will damm well deserve it, The way things have been run the last few years have been shambolic! but i honestly think we will be a better club if we do,no more journey men who couldnt give a toss and maybe some hungry youthful players who will wear the shirt with pride again and get us back where we belong.

Bring back ALEX Bruce! All well and good wanting the current manager out but to be honest there is no one, realistically that I would like to see here. Suggestions of Karl Robinson and Lee Clark are naive and ridiculous to me - never going to happen. No thank you to Bruce.

It's a shame Matt Holland decided against going in to management. I think he has the intelligence, manner and leadership skills to have made us or another team a good manager.

what the hell.......Steve Bruce, no chance. His butt was saved by one player scoring bucket loads of goals, yes Darren Bent. Look what happened when he was sold. Darren Ferguson sets a defence up as badly as we do, difference is they scores more goals. Bad move if we went for him. Curbishley would be the prefered choice but even he is a risk having been out of the game for so long, never really failed.

you armchair managers and chairmen make me laugh, if you know so much why dont you apply for the vacancy and sort the team out? no really try... new to management could be a success that way... or just get behind your team

This time last year I'd have taken Jewell over Keane any day of the week. Have we immediately started winning? no. Steve Bruce really hasn't got that impressive a CV, just has had some rather good spells and some very poor ones, same as Jewell, just slightly more high profile, just as Jewell has a slightly more high profile figure ahead of Keane and Keane was a slightly more high profile character instead of Jim, having managed one other team before Ipswich, rather than effectively still being a player when taking over Ipswich. It's not going to guarentee progress. Based on Evan's track record of choosing managers and Bruce's overall CV, I'd agree with Bluelady, be careful what you wish for...
