Town Turn Down Crawley Offer for Drury
Town Turn Down Crawley Offer for Drury
Monday, 26th Dec 2011 22:37

Crawley Town manager Steve Evans has revealed that the Blues have rejected an offer for midfielder Andy Drury. The 28-year-old returned from an unbeaten 93-day loan with the League Two leaders at the start of the week.

The clubs were due to speak about Drury joining the Red Devils on a permanent basis earlier in the week but Evans says their “significant” bid was rebuffed: "As far as I am concerned that will be the end of the matter unless Ipswich have a change of mind.

“The player has been superb for us and very importantly wants to be here. Let us hope things can be sorted out and Andy's real Christmas wish comes true."

Drury, Paul Jewell’s first permanent Portman Road signing, joined Town from Luton a year ago for £150,000.

I expect their bid is well under the £150K we paid Luton, but why should we accept a big loss on him when his loan at Crawley has been so successful and then (I understand) they have money to spend? His wages must be low, so let him complete for a place at Ipswich again. Now we've probably seen the last of Andrews due to his injury today and now Healy has gone, we need some cover in midfield. Whenever I've seen Drury he's looked fairly decent.

Wasn't there a fee agreed in the original loan agreement? This story must mean that Crawley came in with a lower offer than the one previously agreed.

For what it's worth, Talksport said this afternoon that Crawley may have to sell players in January, which surprised me, given their supposed riches.

Obviously pj doesn't fancy him much anymore,if he wants to go get as much you can for him, better than stuck in reserves collecting wage and running his contract down and then walking for nowt ala norris,g-mac!!!! Good luck to him.

Not the worst squad midfielder in the league, probably cheap to employ so let him compete. I quite like him.

Calling him a 'shocking', 'terrible' signing as some have is very harsh I think. Thought people wanted PJ to take a couple of gambles on lower league players?

Interesting to note that Crawley lost today without him. He has shown himself to be real quality at that level and many of their set piece goals have come from his corners and free kicks. I for one would like to see him given another go in a Town shirt. Let's face it, no one has actually shone in our midfield,

No worst than Bullard and Leadbetter and far cheaper

Looks the end of Leadbetter and think it would need to be silly money to let him go if we have lost Andrews and Healy plus Leadbetter on the way

Why? He is not good enough for ITFC. If anyone wants to buy him he should be sold.

Yes we should turn down a bid for him, he should be playing for us. Did you notice that without his service Crawley LOST today! He could be the midfielder to replace Andrews, scores goals, but can also create goalscoring chances! PJ just give him his chance.

He was playing regularly and showed he's stronger than a league two player. He's certainly at least a league one player and is the type we should be scouting for now. Give him a chance now and if he doesn't step up then we have a team that will take him. Win-win scenario.

I saw him play v Burton a week or so ago and was largely anonymous in that game. Crawley fans I spoke to did not rate him much.

Crawley lost yesterday 2-1 having played 70 mins with 10 men. In a division when Claude Davis shines, judge for yourself the standard.

Fact is with Andrews crocked and possibly going and Bullard losing his form, he could get his chance. He has ability at set pieces that could make a crucial difference but he needs to be given a decent run in the first team to prove himself.

C'Mon Jewell, put Andy in the Town team. He's far better than Leadboots anyway. Give the lad a chance!

With current players being more considered in the starting 11 at best a place on the subs bench? To break into the team he needs to work harder in training then the likes of Bowyer, Bulllard, Andrews, Martin.

I'd like to see Coutts of Preston bought in to Midfield

Given the Andrews injury / impending absence / losing him for good, it might be worth keeping Drury and this may have been the reason for asking too much? If they say yes, good business - if they say no - shows we value him, even if in monetary terms. PJ's first signing - he must have seen something in him? I think he'd do okay - he looked okay on the few occasions he had a chance, a bit off the pace at first perhaps. But with matches under his belt - get in there son!

A significant bid from a side like Crawley is different to say a significant bid a la Man City i think!!

Tomairyn added 11:11 - Dec 27
Give him a run of games in central midfield. He has got to be better than Bowyer.

Cheap signing but is too slow for Champ, sell him and Leadboots if they can find anyone stupid enough to buy, which I doubt.

Not a good signing. Division 2 is about his level. No idea why PJ signed Drury - he tries but is out of his depth.

why keep someone who wants to go, sell and he can take Leadbitter, Priskin and kennedy with him.
