Priskin Joins Russians
Priskin Joins Russians

Exiting Town striker Tamás Priskin has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Russian side Alania Vladikavkaz, his agent Jozsef Vorosbaranyi has confirmed to the Hungarian media. The 25-year-old’s Blues contract was terminated by mutual consent earlier in the week.

Town boss Paul Jewell says Priskin’s desire to move to Russian second division leaders Alania was what led to his contract being torn up: “His agent rang me over the weekend and said that there’s a deal on the table for him in Russia and Tamás wanted to take it. So we came to some arrangement with him.

“His contract was up in the summer and we probably wouldn’t [have offered him a new one]. He was one of the high wage earners as well, so it gets it off the bill.

“With him, Ívar Ingimarsson and Colin Healy, it’s part of a rebuilding process we’re trying to do here.

“I think he wanted to go. At the end of the day, if a player wants to go, whoever it is, and we think it’s beneficial to us, I’m not against that. If people don’t want to be here, there’s no point in them being here.”

Priskin’s contract at Alania is understood to include a clause which will allow him to assess his future at the end of the season if his new side fail to win promotion to the Russian top flight.

While Priskin, Shane O’Connor and Ívar Ingimarsson have left the club having had their contracts terminated in the last few weeks, manager Paul Jewell had received no offers for any of his players at the time of yesterday’s pre-match press conference.

Disappointed we couldn't have at least got a nominal fee for an International striker.

Surprising how he has fallen on his feet. Wonder if he will make it with them? Don't think the Russians will put up with any lack of interest & effort. Hope it's exceptionally cold there this winter

"So we came to some arrangement with him..." I hope the agreement was along the lines of "Give us £10,000 and we'll let you out of your contract." (And, yes, I know it wasn't.)

A tragic loss if ever the phrase "form is temporary, class is permanent" could be applied now would be it. He would willingly take on motor policies for less privileged syndicate and contributed greatly to the local rasping scene. A shame he has gone not only for the club but also the many apprentice raspers whom he took time to school in this ancient art form.

The Russian second division is not very good. Priskin is not very good. A good match.

I've got this image of Priskin getting on a coach at the nearest airport and going accross bumpy mud roads with chickens flying around owned by toothless peasants. He had better run about a bit more out there if not they will either shoot him or he will freeze to death.

I too misread the first word as exciting; pah in his dreams. Glad to see the black of him in all honesty, terrible player who wasnt up to it a verdict backed by numerous championship managers who endured having him on loan and he as predicted has been extradited to Russia. Well good luck out there Prisk I hope you have packed your Coat, hahahaa.

How did he manage to wangle a 3 year deal having barely played for us this season?
Baffling.

Three-and-a-half years?

He might just break double figures.

... so why on earth did we pay him off then? Poor player, but poor management decision to pay up his contract. PJ OUT

jas0999 - who says we paid up his outstanding contract. We let him go to Russia, he waives his future wages. Most payoff deals are reduced when the player gets a new job, anyway. So it's probably saved us about £250k. Better fee than we'd probably have got for him.

Best wishes for the future nonetheless, Tamas.
