St Ledger Back in Favour at Leicester
St Ledger Back in Favour at Leicester
Wednesday, 25th Jan 2012 09:14

Town target Sean St Ledger appears to be very much back in favour at Leicester having been put on the transfer list after falling out with boss Nigel Pearson at Christmas. St Ledger was close to joining the Blues earlier in the month until the Foxes cancelled the deal with the Irish international required to cover for Sol Bamba, who is away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Pearson has been impressed with his performances in the last two games, the 27-year-old even picking up an assist in Monday’s 2-0 victory at Southampton: "I thought he played very, very well.

"I do nothing but look forward with him. He is one of our players and what has happened has happened.

"He is playing very well. I will have a chat with him. We have been on good terms anyway. It is not as if there has been anything sinister going on."

Town appear to have turned their attentions elsewhere since the St Ledger deal stalled with moves to sign Portsmouth’s Jason Pearce, along with his team-mate Joel Ward, continuing.

In that case they won't be needing Pearce.

St Ledger didn't want to join us anyway. Understandable given our current predicament.
Puts a little more pressure on the Portsmouth situation. Whats the betting that Leicester/Leeds get involved in this, take the 2 players and we are left on the last day of the transfer window looking at anyone we can get our hands on???
Sort this deal out ITFC. The future of our club depends on it.....

All the more reason to step up our efforts for the Pompey 2.

Leeds want Pearce according to reports. Leicester have expressed a deep interest in Joel Ward.
Michael Ball anyone? (We play Carlos Edwards as a RB, maybe Ball will make a good centre half...?)

I'm beginning to think Pearson's a bit of a cock!
How can you agree to sell a player and then realise you need him as another player is away at the African Nations cup!?

That said, I'd much rather McManus to play alongside Cresswell and hopefully Pearce/Ward.

Bit concerned that there's still no links to other defenders this window!!!!

Just why does it take this club for ever to do anything, he should have identified his targets long ago before Jan, we really are simply INCOMPETENT

Who would honestly want to come here? It's a joke of a club nowadays with the blind leading the blind from the top all the way through to our defence. A has been journeyman at the end of the window is the best we'll get.

There is no way that St Ledger was ever going to sign for us.

As for the Portsmouth pair (or just one) I cant see that the club will sell any players. All of their admin efforts at the moment will be focused on finding a buyer. Therefore all the men in suits wont have time to focus any efforts on selling players, which would have a detrimental effect on the value of the very club that they are trying to sell. As soon as they find someone with £30M they wont need to sell anyone so thats what they will be doing - finding a rich oil baron who want a new toy!

As such, Portsmouth would be throwing the baby out with the bathwater by selling their players at the moment.

We must have a plan b which needs to be put in place now!

Wonder how far things got with SSL - was any paperwork signed? If so, can we sue them for breach of contract/wasting our club's time? Would all help to put cash in the kitty!

Nothing like the threat of playing for ITFC at the moment to bring you back into the fold. All managers should threaten it for their wayward stars

SSL didn't want to join us! The player and his agent - like most people - expects a manager who consistently delivers poor results to get the sack. Rightly so. Sadly, ME is deluded.

Still, no doubt an experienced manager like PJ has a Plan B, C and D ... afterall he has had many months to plan for this. 25th Jan and still no CB. Unaccaeptable even by PJ's pitiful standards.

i dont think we will get anyone in to help our ailing defence, not on a permanent contract anyway, its going to be loanees again, probably our best bet at the moment as we don't know which division we will be playing in next year and who in their right mind wants to come to a club tha'ts in the state were in? Signing players on a contract then drop into Div One is no joke! So its going to be the same old same old from PJ..old crock journeymen defenders brought in to shore up our defence, no clue , no way forward, no tactics and more embarrassing defeats are coming.....oh FFS I hope im wrong!!!!

Though I still defend the manager, your assessment of our incompetence when it comes to transfer dealings is highly justified.
Norwich would have moved on to Plan B, Plan C. There is no way they would have allowed this situation to continue. The difference is attitude. Everyone knows Norwich strike a hard and fast deal. Everyone knows Ipswich will drag it out and you can milk them for as much as possible.
This is incompetence at a massive level given our present plight. Nothing short of ridiculous.
McManus would not save us from the drop. He's been plagued by injuries recently and would rarely play. Once again, we would be relying on Sonko, Smith and Delaney (League 2 at best).
Joke of a club. The ultimate salt in the wound is how good Norwich are now.
Pride comes before a fall? We all celebrated the appointment of Keane. Magilton did a good job on a shoestring budget. Nobody backed him up as we were now "Certain for the Promised Land". We spent and spent on essentially useless players and have sunk lower and lower as times gone on. Meanwhile Norwich have invested in young, hungry players who will die for their club. I can't see any members of our present squad fighting like Croft, Holt, Pilkington, Morrison, Jackson etc. They live and die as a unit and treat it as more than a game. Our defenders....
On another note entirely, our strikers are only as good as who they play against. At the moment they play against Sonko, Smith and Delaney. Most training sessions must be like a walk in the park for Chopra/Scotland etc. Then they get to the real game and suddenly they are against men. No wonder they find it a battle.....

Dodged a bullet there I think, he has been a problem at which ever club he has been at, Not really that good , very average player.
As soon as the pair are back from the club St Ledger will be back inthe 2nd team and wanting to leave again

If, and If SSL did not want to come, what makes anyone think the Portsmouth 2 want to come here either. All Portsmouth have got to do is ride the storm passed the window, and maybe loan a couple out. They have a small debt to HMRC, not millions in debt like other clubs. This is standard HMRC practice, and I believe Portsmouth have until sometime in february to sort this out, so there is no immediate panic for them.

i can only assume that most people who post on here do so just to be controversial, & to slag the club off. if any of you had read the story when leicester called off this deal, you would know thatssl had agreed to join us. so where do you come uo with he never gonna sign(or never wanted to)? for heavens sake, arent things bad enough right now without people making it worse by talking complete rubbish
