Wright Can't Wait to Get Going With Preston
Wright Can't Wait to Get Going With Preston
Friday, 22nd Jun 2012 14:43

Former Blue Richard Wright says he’s itching to get back into action with his new club Preston North End. The 34-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Lilywhites last month, his third spell with his hometown club having come to a close when he was released at the end of the season.

Wright told the Preston club site: "I just want to get back. It seems to have been a long summer since I sorted everything out at Preston.

“I've had a family break away and the batteries are recharged and I'm ready for the long season ahead, which obviously League One will be, but I am ready for it and looking forward to it, so roll on August when we can get playing competitive fixtures.

"I spoke to the manager and the chairman and the club wants to go forward. You can see the signs of the amount of signings that have come in that I wanted to be part of a team that is going to be winning things.

"I didn't want to come there just to carry on my career, I wanted to carry on winning. I have been fortunate enough to win things in the past and I want to win things in the future. I want to be on that pitch playing week in, week out and make sure that we get Preston back up to where they belong.”

Wright says he has found the last two campaigns frustrating: "The season previous to last I was at Sheffield United and I had a couple of injuries that plagued me.

“Last year I had none, but there weren't really many opportunities for me to play, but I want to play. I believe in my ability and I know that given a run of games that I can be back where I need to be, being very successful again.

"I had a chat with Paul Jewell at Ipswich at the end of last season and he was talking along the lines of the fact there wasn't a playing contract and did I want to go along the lines of coaching, without actually saying it, but straight away I said no chance whatsoever.

“I believe I can still be playing, I believe I can still win, so when the option to come to Preston came up I wanted to get it done and I am delighted it is all sorted out now."

I wonder if the training facilities at Preston are second to none.
Good luck, to Suffolk's answer to Ben Stiller.

"I didn't want to come there just to carry on my career, I wanted to carry on winning."

What has Wright won since leaving Ipswich in 2001?

Legend - Wrighty was born in the town, grew up with/in the club (watched by us), never seemed to give less than 100%, and I get the feeling that he would love to still be playing for us. Basicly, he is a Blue, which is why news of him will always be of intrest to us.

I wish some of the current squad showed the same desires.

If he regains some confidence and form at PNE PJ might yet regret not giving him a run in the side last season given that our 'keeper short list seems to be getting shorter!

Richard may not be the best keeper in the world but Stockdale apart, who's 24 hr recall made him too risky, was the best keeper at Town last season, very puzzling why he didn't play more games more puzzling why he has been allowed to leave when we have only ALB at the club.If we fail too sign the quality keeper we need we will live to regret his exit.Just one more poor descision in a long line of poor descisions in last few years.

He should be getting ready to play against Italy tomorrow, instead of that Man City tool.

I was interested to read this. As I am about all ex-players. Wrighty was and always will be an Ipswich legend. Moaners on here can take a long run off a short pier. Good luck Wrighty. Hope you have a great season at Preston.

I know it's been a quiet few weeks on here but do we really need to know what Preston's players are thinking?!

What's happened to all the transfer gossip/nonsense we used to get on here day in day out?

Surely the title "Wright can't wait to get going with Preston" gives enough of an indication as to what this story is about. How about you moaners don't open it if it's of no interest?

This is a free site for which thousands of Town fans are very appreciative and these stories are also of interest to many fans including myself when they involve not only ex Town players, but a local lad, Town fan and great servant to our club.

I have mixed emotions surrounding Richard Wright. Back in the day he couldn't wait to leave us for Arsenal. And if he had stayed I don't think we would of been relegated and gone into administration. Saying that its not his fault that Burley brought poorly with the fee we received for him. And hand on heart I can't blame anyone wanting to play for a big club.

But what a wasted talent and just proves that moving to a bigger club for a young player doesn't always mean career progression.

Recharge the batteries? He had a really busy season didn't he?!

Enjoy some more bench warming Richard. Seems to be your level of aspiration these days.
