Chambers at Club as Kourouma Set to Sign
Chambers at Club as Kourouma Set to Sign
Tuesday, 3rd Jul 2012 10:50

TWTD understands that former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers is, as per reports last night, at Portman Road today to undergo a medical. The 26-year-old is a free agent with his Forest contract up at midnight on Saturday.

The deal to bring the one-time Northampton man to Town appears likely to be concluded in the next couple of days in time for the 6ft 1in tall defender to join Paul Jewell’s squad for the first day of pre-season training on Thursday.

The Blues may already have made French-Guinean Cheick Kourouma their second signing of the summer before Chambers puts pen to paper.

The 6ft tall central midfielder, who we understand to be back in Suffolk after the summer break, agreed terms with the Blues last month but without formally signing on the dotted line.

TWTD was first to break the news of Town’s interest in the youngster, who spent time on trial at Playford Road at the end of last season on the recommendation of released defender Ibrahima Sonko.

Kourouma, 19, was with Genoa CFC Primavera, Genoa’s U20 team, during the first half of last season having previously been in Spain with Real Zaragoza’s youth set-up and before that with French club Sochaux.

Although Paris-born Kourouma is a free agent, Town have had to agree development compensation terms with all three of his previous clubs as he is below 23 years of age.

Kourouma seems likely to have agreed a one-year deal, while Chambers is rumoured to be signing for three seasons.

well a one year deal is prob a good move, as a young player he has got round a bit, so prob a good idea, esp now the reserves are a bit more like the old days and we have a bigger bench again, to me that was a killer for all champ teams as you cant bring on and blood youngesters if your are cruising to victory can you

Thank god for this. I have been waiting for weeks & hoping and praying!!

Come on PJ. Now lets go and get a goalkeeper.

I have to say I do not blame PJ for keeping his cards close to his chest.

Lets hope this gets completed today.

This would be a real positive signing and would show some ambition by the club. Chambers would fit the bill, just make sure he doesn't leave the building without signing, we've had this before with Charlie Austin

2 hours later...... Austin signs for Burnley after being in Ipswich to agree terms

The best thing is he's been offered a 3 year deal, we always seem to offer just the two years lately so this is great news!

Brilliant News .

I find it funny how the forest fans reckon he's sh*t , but Won Player of the Year 10/11 and apparently came 2nd in the Player of the Year last season

Ive been calling for us to sign Chambers for up to 2/3 years now on the forum (so i have proof) . I think he will be a great signing and when i have seen him play he's been good in the air and calm on the ball , good ball playing defender .

Good news if they go through.

2 hours from Ipswich to Burnley - blimey that is fast driving or relaxed airport control etc. And also good work on finding a pen that works as well - obviously not an ITFC pen.

Goalkeeper to sign within 48 hours.

Another PJ scoop tbh.

The fact that Forest fans are making such a big thing about this , speaks volumes for the calibre of Chambers , IMO.

the young MIdfielder lad also about to sign for us , sounds like the type of big ,m young bustling MF we need to compliment the current dynamic MF trio of Drury, Martin, and JET. Which leaves me saying "Leadbitter , who"??

Just need a decent GK now and another Striker!

The Town ARE GOING UP this season!

Good news indeed but we still need another centre-back - Smith and Chambers first choice but we still need decent cover as they will get injured.

I agree with Arnie; I can't believe how their player of the season from two years ago is now suddenly one of their worst players. I imagine they're a bit disheartened that their club captain wants out. Hopefully a centre back partnership of Smith and Chambers for the new season.

If you do research on Luke, you'll get a lot of Forest fans slagging him off and happy to see him go. Seriously, don't listen to them. Luke was a fantastic defender up until last season when the captaincy completely affected him. He's brilliant in the air - he scored like 7 or 8 for us in 2010/11.

As long as he doesn't get handed the captains armband, I believe Ipswich have pulled off quite the coup here.

As for Forest, we're down yet another defender and will be in serious trouble next season if the owners don't plug the gap.

Two good signings i hope. Young & town players for the long term. Things taking shape. Now for a keeper another centre half,(have a feeling sonks will get some kind of deal) murphs & another striker. Top 6 here we come.

For those who do not know how a "player of the season" can turn rubbish - i suggest they look at Bullard's performances last season (and antics off field etc).

Apologies for any spelling mistakes but i do have sausage fingers, plus i am at work!.
