Britannia Stand Co-opted
Britannia Stand Co-opted
Tuesday, 10th Jul 2012 06:00

Portman Road’s Britannia Stand will be known as the East of England Co-operative Stand from the 2012/13 season after the Blues secured a new sponsorship deal.

Speaking to TWTD in September, chief executive Simon Clegg anticipated developments on stand sponsorship during the months to come: “I expect to be making some progress on stand sponsorship this season.

“There are a couple of people who want to speak to me but we haven’t talked [in detail] yet.”

Building society Britannia, who had sponsored what was initially known as the Pioneer Stand since 1999, will remain involved in the club working at grassroots level.

All money and sponsorship is good but for heavens sake!

It's outrageous. We should be getting people like Ferrari or Sony to be our stand sponsors. Clegg can't get anything right.

Sounds good, maybe the Cobbold stand could be renamed the Tesco express stand ? Nothing like a bit of supermarket competition ! What next ? Starbucks and Burger King on the practise pitch ?

Bit of a gob-full. Surely the co-op stand would suffice! Nice to have a top level ethical company involved with the club properly, I've always liked the co-op, good cheese!

I work for the co-op part time as a student, wonder if I'll be given a discount to sit in this lovely named stand!

Hmmm...that doesn't particularly inspire or roll off the tongue! But, money talks I guess so we have to go with it.

Good to see a local company behind us and one with better ethics than the supermarket GIANTS! However being a season ticket holder, till now was easy to reply oh im in Britannia....... after a few JDs and Coke this could become a tongue twister :-)

I can't believe how some of you can still find the time to moan about this! It's the co-op stand! Not rocket science! The investment into the club may be the difference financially for us to compete a little better this season, should be viewed only as a positive

Just take the money and stop moaning.

This is very very good news indeed. We should be sponsored by good local companies that have a good moral fibre and a sense of good old fashioned wholesome trust about them.

Not great big fascist coporate capitalist money grabbing bully boys. Theycan sponsor the tacky chavvy top 6 premiership clubs until the cows come home for all I care.As a a club, we are better than that and we should stick to our roots.

Does this mean we get new seats in there? (as they have to change the big BRITANNIA wording?)

Didnt it used to be known as the chicken coop?
Very fitting!

It's great news, I have found that the Co-Op deserve good publicity, I bank with them and there staff are polite and look after loyal local customers. It's great for a loyal local company to give us sponsorship for a great stand that from the days of Pioneer that is still going strong today we should all welcome a brand new sponser to our club. Clegg you have done well on this and i have to say to you moaners out there we could have one of these big boy companies take over the full sponsorship of the ground and we end up having our ground called the Tesco stadium than the old fashioned Portman Road what we like. Just try to convince a Newcastle fan that St James Park is not the JJB stadium.
All i say is welcome Co-Op and Clegg in this time.:-)

FFP people, FFP. All extra (non-loan) income is very good! Gives us more to play with.

And, like others have said, one of the better companies to be associated with.

If stands have to be sponsored, lets have them sponsored by ethical, community-based companies like the Co-Op. Good work.

And, of course, it'll be shortened to the Co=Op Stand, which is fine by me.

Hows about "The co-op coop".

They can rename it to whatever they like, I'll still call it the Brittania stand. But this doesn't bother me too much.

Like Superfranz says, if we're going to get stands sponsored, the Co-Op is far from the worst choice.
