Ellington Penalty Beats QPR As Jewell Watches
Sunday, 21st Oct 2012 12:57

Town's U21s put in a strong display to win 1-0 in a well-contested game on a rainy morning at Playford Road with Nathan Ellington's 67th-minute penalty the difference. Manager Paul Jewell, who yesterday said he was considering his Blues future, watched the game along with assistant Chris Hutchings and other members of his staff.

Town came close early on with Tom Winter hitting his shot into the sidenetting. At the other end, Arran Lee-Barrett was forced to produce a save to prevent a shot from Moe Shariff.

Byron Lawrence was next to have an effort at goal with his low driven shot being well saved to Aaron Lennox's right.

Town continued to press with Byron Lawrence crossing from the left to Ellington, with the striker heading wide what was a good chance. Minutes later Lennox was in action again this time with Tom Winter having a shot saved.

Josh Carson had a decent shot saved by Lennox in the second half with Town still searching for a goal.

The Blues were awarded a controversial penalty in the 67th minute when Carson was tackled from behind by Jamie Sendles-White. Ellington took the spot-kick and finished it with aplomb to the bottom left corner.

The first half was evenly balanced with Town producing more chances than the visitors but they were unable to carve out a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Massimo Luongo was a driving force in the middle with Ellington looking lacklustre up front, failing to win headers or trouble the defence. The decision not to bring on Jack Marriott was surprising considering his good run of form.

U21s: Lee-Barrett, Hammond, October, Thorsteinsson, Whight, Ainsley (Berkane 56), Carson, Luongo, Ellington, Lawrence, Winter (Timlin). Unused: Crowe, Marriott, Robinson.

Jewell's attendance at this match doesn't suggest he is on the brink of leaving the club?

So Luongo was the "driving force" in this game, whereas yesterday the first team fielded two loanees in Wellens and Reo-Cocker who didn't sound match fit and who only seem to be at Ipswich to get their fitness up. What a state of affairs!

Poor luongo now hanging out in the reserves. He could do that at spurs, and with better company than Ellington!

Ellington was a decent player once. I wonder how he feels playing Sunday mornings with the kids.

If we really have got to wait for jewel to resign , what , exactly does this say for marcus evans? good grief how much of a hotch potch has this side got to turn into before we see some action evans?. If you really care about this club , and to be honest , i cant see why you became involved if you dont , then surely you can see we are floundering under a manager who has totally lost his way , in team direction , player selection and game tactics. You are supposed to be a ruthless business man , you didnt make the fortune you have by apathy. Get it sorted out man , and make damn sure the next manager you hire for the job has the capability of miracles , because this shambles has gone on so long we now need one.

Jewell won't walk..he hasn't enough self respect..he won't go 'til he's pushed out of the door with a nice big pay-off.

The headline reads Jewell considering his position over the weekend, which could have been a knee-jerk comment. He might not be going after all.

I personally do not think Jewell will walk, he now has two matches which will tell us whether the players are with him or not. The players are now fully aware of Jewells feelings so if we see a team full of commitment and passion and of course some points on the board he will carry on. If we pick up less then 3 points from Derby and Sheffield
Wednesday then Jewell will surely part company one way or the other. I could of course be wrong but an announcement from the Club must be made and quickly.

EADT exclusive on their website says JEWELL IS STAYING ftb.Presumably they spoke to Jewell after the U21 game.I HOPE THEY ARE WRONG.Says there is a i/v with press 2moro lunchtime which is presumably the normal one before the Derby game(or is it)bet he will face awkward questions, least I hope so.

Of course ME / SC don't want PJ to go because at the moment he is taking most of the flackand can hide behind him this club has no real leadership no vision and lacks any direction and they all must think us fans are muppets if I ran a business like that then I would be finished

Agree with you Stow, but Evans and Clegg have no idea into the running of a football club. Do they actually realise the consequences in Ipswich Town getting relegated into the lower tier.
Paul Jewells tactics and metod of playing are shocking, will one win just give him another month because as fans we have taken enough punishment. The supporters have lost confidence in the club and will be lucky to get a crowd of 16,000 on Tuesday. I know eason ticket holders who cannot give their seats away.
We can only moan on TWTD because we are so desperate......

What is the point of Ellington? Surely he must know he will never play in the first team. Wouldn't it be better for him to go and get a proper job like postman or wiork on the fish counter in Sainsburys.

Ellington would at least then be able to look himself in the face instead of this humilating charade he is putting himself through.
