Taylor Faces Surgery
Monday, 5th Nov 2012 13:53

Blue boss Mick McCarthy says striker Paul Taylor needs surgery on the cracked bone in his foot he suffered in the game against Wolves in September and that he is expected to be out for the season. The 25-year-old was injured in only his third match for Town having signed for an initial fee of £1.5 million from Peterborough in August.

Town had hoped that resting the injury for six weeks would all that would be needed for him to get over the problem but the frontman received the bad news after a visit to a specialist.

“Paul Taylor’s going to need surgery,” McCarthy confirmed. “He’s not going to be available to me for a while. He’s going to have surgery on his foot.

“It’s a massive blow for him, that’s the main thing. He’s a lad who is progressing in his career, everybody likes him and he’s a good little player and now he can’t play.

“My thoughts are for him. Maybe we can do something else. He can’t, he’s just got to have it operated on and get rehabbed. We’ll be fortunate to have him available this season.”

In terms of other injuries ahead of Tuesday’s game at Crystal Palace, midfielder Guirane N’Daw, who impressed his new manager at Birmingham, will be assessed having been replaced late on at St Andrew’s: “He's got cramp in both his calves and hamstrings, so we’ll see.”

Skipper Carlos Edwards took a few knocks at the weekend but is fine: “It was like they targeted him! He’s training, he’s fine.”

McCarthy says he’s yet to hear from the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation regarding Edwards being required for Soca Warriors games outside the international window later in the month.

Yikes, how long a contract did he sign? If it's only 2 years he'd go into his second year without hardly playing

That's a shame, I was looking forward to seeing Taylor partnering DJ Campbell up front. Both have real desire, pace and goal scoring ability: would have been a nightmare combination for defences. If we get DJ permanently might get to see it next season though

Ugh. Absolutely gutted for the guy. He could've had a really good season.

Hope he comes back sooner but if he doesn't, I just hope he gets a fair crack of the whip. Not to make an inappropriate comparison, but I'd hate to see him go the way of Sam Parkin.

Well I'm a natural pessimist but I really hope this isn't due to the injury not being monitored properly in the first place. I wonder if it needs re-breaking/setting... I hope not, but it's obviously nothing trivial if he's going to be out for the season now. Thoughts and best wishes to the lad.

what wise words from our new manager, showing he has a caring side as well as the brash side he is known for. concern about the player and how it must feel for him rather than just the impact on ITFC. Next year when we go for our championship winning team he will be key :-). one can now live in hope!

Not good news but agree with bluelady that Paul's welfare is the priority and MM has appropriately acknowledged that. Best wishes with your surgery and rehab Paul.

Not good news, was good for 10-15 goals I felt.

Another worrying note is that of N'Daw, who was probably our best player Saturday.

Onwards and upwards though!

Agree with JimmyJazz he will be fit and raring to go for our promotion push next season. A chance for the likes of Chopra to step up and prove their worth.

N'daw actually worries me more, what the hell has he been doing in training, if his body cannot cope with 90 minutes and reacts that badly. PJ Training must have been too light

What a great pity for Paul and for the club, he really looked good in those few games, he put in an amazing effort, very bad luck.

Birmingham targeted Edwards because they recognised he is the weak link in the defence. I'm sure McCarthy agrees.
