Pablo Playing in Hong Kong
Pablo Playing in Hong Kong

Former Blue Pablo Couñago is now plying his trade with Kitchee in the Hong Kong First Division League. The 33-year-old has scored six goals in four starts and three sub appearances so far for his new club, who are currently second in the table.

The Spaniard, who was released by Town in the summer of 2011, was previously with Vietnamese club Đồng Tâm Long An and spent time back in Spain on trial with second division side CD Lugo in September.

He is scoring for fun these days. Would have been a much better signing than Ellington. Counago is a very different player to any of our strikers now.

Rather bizarrely I was wondering where Pablo was last night.

After staging a staggering transfer coup on Football Manager to sign 31 year-old Pablo Counago on a free transfer for Chelmsford City of the Blue Square South, immediately after his release by Ipswich, he blasted me up the table and we cruised to the league Blue Square South title. He was ‘quite good' in the Blue Square Premier next season and sensibly decided to hang up his boots when we got promoted to League Two. Out of pure sentiment and despite all the overwhelming evidence suggesting that I definitely shouldn't do this - given his terrible stats for coaching, tactical awareness, man management, judging player ability and basically everything required for a successful post-playing career - I offered him the backroom job as attacking coach. Nine seasons later ‘Chelmo' are now enjoying their second season in the Premiership after a heroic 15th placed finish in our maiden season. We boast a stellar backroom line up of the world's best scouts, coaches and physios, headed by Frank Lampard as my assistant manager are are currently negotiating two work permits for some landmark marquee signings. One is following a successful £10.25m bid for 2020's version of Michael Essien who has been transfer listed at Chelsea after falling down the pecking order and the other is following a £9.5m bid for the next Santi Cazorla from Newell's Old Boys in Argentina. Neither of whom were recommended to me as signings by my attacking coach, who I decided to completely ignore and immediately press delete when a note from him popped up in my inbox recommending some signings last night. Which was why I was wondering where he was.

Pablo - if you're reading this - I've no doubt the stats randomly assigned to you by Football Manager once you decided to embark on a post-playing career are woefully inaccurate. I have every faith in your ability to hone my strikers into a potent attacking force in real life and would welcome you back to Portman Road as an attacking coach. In fact in any capacity. I'd even pay for the flight (providing my company would expense it).

Totally agree with BelsteadBill. Counago was a player I always enjoyed watching and I appreciated his technique and ability to hold up the ball. I think he was given a hard time by some of the fans. He never was an out-an-out goalscorer.

It's a shame Pablo is not plying his trade at a higher level. At 33 he should be far from finished.

As I have said before it dont matter who we have up front now could be Messi, Ronaldo or Van Persie. They wouldnt do anything because of our style of play hit and hope. No width creativity or nothing felt sorry for Mcgoldrick and Chops last night

Great player. Under used and under valued by Royle and Keane. Great football brain, would have been brilliant playing just behind a front one or two.

Yet another of the numerous reasons to question the capability of Roy Keane who for some reason wouldn't give Pablo the time of day. Yes, I do agree that he did seem lazy at times but his overall technical ability far out reaches anyone that we have in the present team. This for me was the beginning of our slippery slope .We now have a mountain to climb!

He spent more time on his arse than his feet, never consistant, overated, has now found his level.

Didn't get the work permit for the Argentinian Cazorla. Nevermind.

If only Football Manager was like real life. After steering Ipswich to their third consecutive champions league win I made the shock decision to resign and take over Leigh RMI, after a few seasons they also became European giants.
