Town in Hunt for Winger
Saturday, 18th May 2013 21:23

Town are battling an unnamed Bundesliga side for the signature of free agent former Wolves midfielder Stephen Hunt, according to reports in Ireland. TWTD revealed that Hunt was on Blues boss Mick McCarthy’s wish-list back in November.

McCarthy took the Irish international to Molineux from Hull City for £3 million in August 2010 and the 31-year-old was a regular in his side for the next two seasons.

The ex-Crystal Palace, Brentford and Reading man missed much of the 2012/13 season due to calf and hernia problems before returning to action in March but couldn’t prevent his club from plummeting into League One.

Hunt is understood to be keen on a reunion with McCarthy, however, the Blues may not be able to match the terms on offer elsewhere with the Laois-born winger’s next contract likely to be the final big payday of his career.

Wolves told Hunt and two more of McCarthy’s signings, striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake — who is currently sidelined with a broken leg and an ankle ligament injury - and centre-half Christophe Berra, that they would not be offered new contracts earlier in the week.

Another of McCarthy’s former Wolves players, 32-year-old midfielder Seyi Olofinjana, was released by Hull on Thursday. The Nigerian impressed while on loan at Sheffield Wednesday in the final two months of the season.

Meanwhile, we understand that loanee striker Daryl Murphy is still to learn whether the Blues will offer him permanent terms. The 30-year-old’s Celtic contract is up at the end of June.

If we can get him on reasonable wages then great...... but what about Stearman?? Of all the Wolves players surely we want him more than the others that have been mentioned? We need to keep the back 4 together and then build from there.

Don't want to doubt Mick but i really don't think Hunt is what we need. We've had too many unfit has beens in recent years, we need fresh young legs on the wings to compete in this league.

Past his best, however might be a decent squad player, but I'd like to think he would be signed as well as, not instead of one of the younger attacking players we have been linked with.

A friend in Germany said he's been linked to Arminia Bielefeld. Can't confirm this anywhere.

Yes please. Quality player and would give us what we've missed on the left for what seems like forever.

Quality.

Daryl Murphy is currently on holiday in Las Vegas, with Carlos Edwards. I suppose his future will be sorted when he gets back.

Do me a favour, thought we need pacey wingers not over the hill wolves rejects, sorry but true! If I had a pound for every wolves link I'd have more money than Marcus Evans! The only player I would take from them would be stearman as he has proven here what a decent player he can be,but of course he'd cost a bit. Come on mick, find us a few rough diamonds of the kightly,Jarvis ilk. All these old micks wolves players linked stinks of pj and dark lords old pals act. Come on mick fresh talent needed! In big mick we trust!

His picture shows that he's had a long hard 31 years!

Sad that all I remember him for is the injury he caused to Petr Cech.

Cannot see him worthy of a fat final contract from us.

We definitely need a winger, it seems a long time since we've had a proper winger, but a 31-year-old with recent injury problems is probably best avoided.

Poor old Ebanks-Blake feel sorry for him. And as for hunt to old for me rather have a young and hungry lower league player. But if Mick signs him he knows best could have a impact like kevin Phillips had at Blackpool and he was 37 so might not be that bad a deal if it does happens.

I'd take him on a short contract with suitable T's and C's. A proper winger with a bit of fire. Very good set piece taker. If Mick likes him, I like him.

Age 31 he may be - but always gives 100% (if fit), scores, creates. One of the main reasons Wolves went down was because they didnt create and score enough and for the most part, Hunt was out injured. Mick knows him, hes just been relegated and i dont think hes a big time Charlie like Bullard - dont need to offer mega bucks.

Although he is old, slow and has stupid hair (no offence to anybody with this hair) he can still deliver a hell of a ball, and with a big guy up front we could be scoring a few more goals. Maybe someone like Tyrone Barnett, what happened to him anyway. If he is still with Peterborough then we may be him cheap as he has dropped down a league.
