Chopra Still Planning to Stay at Town
Monday, 3rd Jun 2013 09:27

Striker Michael Chopra has again said he could decide to stay at Town for the remaining year of his contract, despite manager Mick McCarthy making him available for transfer at the end of the season.

Chopra, whose relationship with supporters has been less than harmonious in the wake of his well-documented off-field issues and Twitter controversies, tweeted: “Might stay at Ipswich as I know how much the Ipswich fans love me keep telling people I don't need to leave.”

The 29-year-old was told he could find another club along with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas at the end of the campaign having failed to secure a regular place in the side but quickly indicated that he might choose to remain at Portman Road: “Just coz I'm on the transfer list does not mean I have to leave. I have one year left on my contract, it’s down to the player if he wants to go or not.”

While Fulham are targeting Emmanuel-Thomas, so far there has been little speculation regarding clubs coming in for Chopra, although a number of sides — including now-promoted Hull City — showed interest in signing him on loan in January.

One report this weekend claimed Chopra could move on a free transfer, a not unlikely scenario as McCarthy looks to off-load his wage - the striker is understood to be one of the club's top earners - in order to add to his summer transfer budget.

Every time he makes comments like this the more he makes himself look the c**t that he is. Don't take the bait, he obviously gets bored on the rare occasion he is not in the betting office.

note to Chopra. Most of us fans have been around ITFC for years, decades, some half a century.Ninety % of us here on the forum and news comments are proper fans, and if you look at the threads about you and your latest pathetic petulant childish unprofessional ranting on a platform u were supposed to be staying away from, youll see that the vast majority of us cannot wait for you and your disgraceful attitude to leave us.I used to love you but now I will cheer the day u go. You have disrespected us, and your attitude to our club which bent over backwards to help you is an utter disgrace which just sums up your greedy selfishness

we could pay him up and get rid
proberbly cheaper to hire a hitman.
seriously though this has gone far enough.
i hate players getting slagged and am the first to stand up for them but this fella is just a nasty piece of work.
if he wants to sit his contract can he at least not do it in silence.
the worst of it is when he does go somebody will take a punt on him and it will be just our luck he sticks 20 odd in for them

Its about time a club stood up to player and maybe it should be us with him. How many people on here if found to be tweeting the disrespectful tweets he is would keep our jobs. I am an IT Contractor so similar type of contract as Football players (except for the money). SACK HIM NOW!!!! He has shown gross professional misconduct there is no contract in that situation. good bye please feel free to trip over on your way out honestly it was not the baying fans at the door triping/beating you up!!!

If he insists on staying read and implement every last clause of his contract and wring every last pennorth of value as we can out of him.
Make him train alone and fine him the maximum amount for every misdemeanour however minor.
Charge the maximum amount of interest we can on any outstanding loan he has from the club
If his contract permits it he could be our highest paid toilet cleaner and turnstile painter,
Make him so damned uncomfortable he will beg the club to get rid of him.

Chopra is a complete end of a Bell simple as that!
Should have let the loan shark bad boys sought him out when they came to the training ground.
It would have saved us from the misery that the parasite has caused the club and its fans.

Scumbag!

In two minds here. Chopra is absolutely right and it is indeed his decision whether to move on. I'd like to see him go - it would free up much needed wages for MM's budget - but Chopra doesn't have to go. The blame lays with the people who signed him and gave him a long(ish) deal - particularly knowing his personal situation (something PJ admitted). Knowing the facts, I still find it remarkable that we paid £1M for him. No wonder others weren't interested!

This man is a deluded fool who has let himself and the club down very badly. I reckon in 3 years time he'll have no cash no job and playing Ryman League Soccer...

Correct me if I'm wrong. The club paid the people he had debts with. Sent to somewhere in America to get fit. He repays the club by playing s...e and treating his employer's and fans of ITFC with total contempt. Why can we not sack this waste of space is beyond me. The club, fans, e.t.c deserve a lot more.

jas0999. you are absolutely spot on in what you say. while I have backed him for most of the time hes been making comments it has to be said that he really does himself no favours at all by continually making these statements and I can no longer back him over this. have totally lost any respect for the guy and really hope he does go. however as he says, it is his decision at the end of the day as to whether he goes or not. and I have to admit that if I was in his position, why would he go. he has another year left on his contract on £18000 per week, no1 else is likely to offer that amount to him, hes got massive money worries so needs to earn as much as he can, and in a years time can sign for some1 else on a free enabling him to a bigger signing on fee for that club. what would ne1 do in that situation? unfortunately, the problem is that he cant keep his gob shut and just get on with it. im sure none of us would have a problem with that, its just his total disdain for the club and the fans that rankles.

"I still find it remarkable that we paid £1M for him."

so am I, but it made for a good story and gee'ed up the fans a bit

personally I take these transfer fees with a pinch of salt

most just amount to what's left of their contract that the other club takes on

as to " it is indeed his decision whether to move on." I would like it if our club and others started inserting clauses into players contracts regarding making statements like these - this latest has done neither him nor our club any favours, and it merely serves to cause more friction between the fans and players/club

I don't doubt there are players at virtually every club now and over the years who have held views about the club and fans they were/are with but with this toy were unable to make them known

I think we were all the better for it

perhaps on Chopra's wages he can send a few of us long suffering supporters on a holiday to California - and then we'll let this blow over!

I actually find it sickening that a player who Marcus Evans bailed out when the heavys turned up at Playford Rd, sent off to fat camp to get fit, sent and supported through rehab to overcome his addiction, stuck by him again when he's banned by the horseracing association can show such utter arrogance and disloyalty.

The guy doesn't have any loyalty at all. He'd rather be on the beer in Newcastle the night before training when we're in need of points. He's a mercenary just like Bullard and the sooner he leaves the better for everyone. Makes me sick that our money finds its way into this worms bank.

He has to be one of the most unpopular, if not the most unpopular, player in the clubs history.

He's a disgrace to his profession, I just want him out, dont care if he signs for Madrid and gets 40 goals next season, lets just get him out of our club.

It's been said already, but I probably could just about have coped with him taking every last penny he can from the club if he didn't tweet his complete disdain for the club and supporters on such a regular basis. Even if he is being "baited" - don't take the bait!
