JET Due in Bristol on Monday
Sunday, 30th Jun 2013 10:36

Town midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is expected at Bristol City on Monday to talk personal terms regarding the swap deal which would see Robins winger Paul Anderson, 24, join the Blues.

According to reports in Bristol, negotiations between the clubs are at an advanced stage with the proposed deal a straight swap with no money changing hands. The moves could be finalised within the next couple of days.

Anderson, who like 22-year-old Emmanuel-Thomas has a year left on his contract with his current club, is believed to have already spoken to Town.

The only remaining potential stumbling blocks would appear to be the Robins matching Emmanuel-Thomas’s wage demands - although he is believed to be willing to take a pay cut - and persuading him to drop into League One.

Emmanuel-Thomas, who along with Michael Chopra was told he could find a new club at the end of 2012/13, previously worked under Bristol City boss Sean O'Driscoll during a loan spell at Doncaster Rovers.

I'm so optimistic for this season. I got a good feeling :). Get the wage bill down. I live in Cardiff so have seen how promotion changes the place, like it did for us in 2000. Ipswich needs a good kick up the ass, lets hope this is that kick.

Don't get me wrong, I like JET and on his day he can be so very entertaining. BUT his 'days' are too few and far between. One good game, followed by four or five poor ones is simply not good enough. I wish him luck.

What disappoints me the most though, is I have read so much on here about the FFP and excuses for why we can not spend more on wages and fees. Then we read that a Division 1 side can potentially afford one of our highest earning players (regardless of whether or not JET will take a pay cut - his wages will I suspect still be more than we are paying some of our players). Wolves - another division one side - have put in a £1M bid for a player from Crewe. Surely, it makes a mockery of the FFP argument? How can division one clubs afford this and we can't? I have concluded that ME simply WON'T pay out!

We all know JET never really impressed but we saw what he potentially has in his locker, fair credit to the lad if he agrees to a pay cut and a drop in divisions. If it all goes through good luck for the season ahead JET. COYB!!

Anderson was quite impressive on loan at Swansea a few seasons ago..just slightly wary of all his injury problems..only time will tell I guess.

Shame JET didn't work out but if we're to make a serious promotion challenge we can do without the slackers.

jas099 you really are a div of the highest order arent you?

what you seem to be forgetting re Wolves is that 12 months ago they had just been relegated from the Prem, therefore for the coming season and next they still have the advantage of parachute payments, with which they should definately be able to buy themselves out of League 1, if not this season then next.

Don't get me wrong JET is lazy and needs to buck his ideas up, however I thought we were looking for a goal scoring midfielder

Jet 9 in 75
Anderson 11 in 148

Looks like the deal will likely go ahead but I must say I'm slightly disappointed. JET has had his fair share of chances but is still very young and young players generally are inconsistent.
If anyone could unlock JET's potential I was sure it would be MM and TC but that's not been the case.
From what I've heard, Anderson can be a decent winger but isn't a matchwinner like JET which I think is important to have in some players. Plus who will we have that can make as great an impact as JET from the bench?
I'll back Mick's decision if this goes through though, as we all should.

jas0999, the speed limit in this Country is 70mph, but people still drive well in excess of 80mph. Just because there are a sets of rules ( FFP for football) it doesnt mean people / clubs will adhere to them. Some always think they can get away with it, or that those rules simply do not apply to them.

The Club that are lashing out money on fees and wages WILL be dealt with if they break the rules of the FFP. Ipswich Town ( like many other clubs) is making the firm decision that they will adhere. It is a bout time Football Clubs took responsibility and said "NO" to players / agents demands.

Also, who says you have to spend big bucks to win promotion? We've certainly been down that road far too many times and look where it has got us . Ageing journeyman looking for that last big pay out and who cant be arsed to turn up on the day. Remember the game vs Sheffield Weds at PR? Utter dross and a disgrace by the players that day.

What we do finally have right at this Club now , is a proper manager who can , it seems, get under performing players to play as a TEAM, and a manager with an ability to get young players in and coach them ( if they are coachable), which led to a promotion winning form since last November. THAT'S what get's you promoted. Not expensive big time charlies who cant be arsed.

COYB's

Jimmy slaw - I'm the same as you. I always felt that having JET on the bench was a good option to change games but sadly he came off the bench a hell of a lot but never changed anything.

I think a few fancy flicks and tricks duped a lot of us. We need hard work to get out of this division and JET definitely isn't that. Good luck to him at City, sure he'll do we'll at that level although he'll still need to buck his ideas up.

Know little of Anderson in truth.

It is to Jet's credit that he is even thinking of doing this move.
From his perspective he would be dropping a league and taking a pay cut when many a player would take the years salary probably play a couple of games for us and if they had to take the drop taking it next year with a big signing on fee.
What it says about MM is that he values consistency & effort above occasional talent... not something we did not know. I wonder though if JETs talent actually makes manager lose patience with him quicker. Its somehow more annoying to watch a player with talent have a bad game than a mediocre player?

Part of me hopes JET is so shocked by the wages on offer in league 1 that he has a road to Damascus moment and comes back to us a changed man and forces his way into the first team with the consistency and quality of his performances.

Ely Blue - there is really no need to be rude! As you will see from my post, I have asked a number of QUESTIONS. On a forums website like this, it allows debate. I am struggling with the whole concept of FFP and can't see why others are spending money (in lower leagues) and we are not. However, RetroBlue's post on the other hand is far more helpful and probably explains the situation. But sites like these are about opinions ... and just because someone has a different opinion or asks a question or two, doesn't really make them a 'div' - does it?

RetroBlue - thanks very much for your post and response.

JET dropping to Lge 1 ??. What a waste of a talent, and what the hell is MM thinking of. Alright JET may not be a 90 minute player week in week out, but sure as ninepence he can turn a game, have we a better impact player coming off the bench? Oh we did have one on a par with him, Jason Scotland!! Not all about teamwork MM, THERE IS A PLACE FOR INDIVIDUALS IN A TEAM, and it may mean the difference between a play off place and a top two finish.

weve tried the big signings they dont work although jet seems a nice guy that doesnt win footy matches hes had a lot of chances and hasnt done it for us how many of our big signings in last 3-4 years have worked out ? if any personally i would like to see more hungry lower division players ie cresswell mcgoldrick remember money doesnt always provide sucesss ask keano and jewell that lot of money has gone wasted on big signings who have now gone for nothing ie martin leadboots and now chopra and maybe jet

Not much to lose on this one really. I do like JET like many others but the potential just never came out. Not sure about Anderson although he did tear us apart when at Forest but thats all I remeber him by. JET may well prosper under O'Driscoll as he did in his spell at Doncaster where I believe he played him up front. Good luck JET if this does come off. If Anderson does come then I'm sure MM will get the best out of him.

with a heavy heart i understand getting rid of JET but this guy just seems like JET mkII. Maybe MM and TC have been watching moneyball and got some kind of mad statistical analysis thing going on, god only knows....

Truckertractorboy

We would get an out and out winger instead of a player who doesn't have a true position who puts in 10% effort on a good day. Yeah he shows moments of brilliance but these moments are too few and far between and is not the type of player we need to get us out of the league.
