Mings Signs New Contract
Tuesday, 27th Aug 2013 18:19

Defender Tyrone Mings has signed a new contract with the Blues taking him to the summer of 2015 with an option for a further season. The 20-year-old joined Town from non-league Chippenham in December, signing an initial deal which took him up to the end of this season.

The left-back or centre-half told the club site: “I was delighted to sign my first contract here but to know the manager has shown confidence in me and wants me to stay is a big bonus.

“It gives me some stability, knowing my future is sorted for the next few years but I can’t rest on my laurels.

“The manager has told me to carry on doing what I’m doing and it’s down to me to get into the first team and look to play as many games as possible and at some stage in the future, win another deal to stay here.”

Mings, who is currently out of action with a knee injury, made his senior debut on the final day of last season at Burnley with his other first team appearance coming at Reading on the opening day of this campaign.

Good to see the younger player's signing longer contracts. Could this mean cressy will be on his way??

I thought he was excellent against Reading, not the same attacking qualities as Cresswell but good defensively and a bit of height. I will be amazed if Cresswell hasn't gone by the end of the transfer window, so long as MM has time to do a few deals.

Big Whoop!

It would be nice if the faceless one actually got out his wallet and allowed MM to sign the quality players that we so desperately need instead of relying on kids and bargain basement players. I really don't care about the negative points I will get for writing this but hiding behind the excuse of FFP just doesn't wash anymore! Fed up and bored with this and more worryingly so will MM be the longer his hands are tied.

We shouldnt let Cresswell go if we are trying to build a good team for the future especially if his previous club will take a % of his money.
I see MM is trying to sell him judging from his coments.
I dont think we will get more than 4mil for him and what are we going to do with that money first anyway. Get a decent striker? Or a decent winger?

I dont know. All I know is that we shouldnt sell him, unless we get offered something like 6mil.

Great to see that Tyrone will be here for a few more years. One thing i have been thinking about if anyone agrees. We all want Cresswell to stay but if a Premier League club offer the right amount we know Marcus Evans won't turn it down. If Marcus knows that he will be selling Cresswell for a solid amount, why has he not let Mick sign players for 'Money' because he knows he will make it back when Cresswell leaves. I hope he stays but if someone offers £4-5 Million i think Town will sell. I think a pacey winger and someone like Billy Sharp is what we need because Wordsworth can play the attacking minded player.

JMW - yeah let's go and splash the cash, forget the rules. With a bit of luck we could be the next Pompey or Coventry!!

We're going to have a really cracking squad in a few seasons' time, all home grown, or picked up as youths, and brought up into the team!

Bobblehat Just answer me this, how is it that teams like Huddersfield, Forest even Doncaster can go out and bring in some quality players by spending some cash? When someone actually suggests that Evans should actually be spending some money in bringing in some quality we always get the usual OTT example of Portsmouth and Coventry thrown back at us! Jeez what the hell has gone wrong with this club and some of its supporters! The only way of getting out of this league is to spend some cash (not blow it all) but invest it in some quality.

ME must be laughing his head off at comments like yours Bobblehat as he knows that he has mugged off another punter! Just accept the fact that we are treading water season after long tedious season and without some cash to invest on decent players this mediocrity will continue for another 10 years.

@JWM: Good point, spend some cash not blow it. This squad is mediocre at best, surely there must be a Marcus Stewart/David Johnson out there to light up the stadium & get bums back on seats? Until that happens we are going nowhere.

It will be a shame to lose Cressy as I believe all good teams have two decent full-backs & we should be building a side not selling.

We should not and must not sell Creswell. If we do it will simply confirm that Mr. Evans is using this once great club as a loss making assett with no intention of letting us go forward. I agree with your sentiments JWM.

Cheers Warkys and BillBlue thank god there are some other fans out there that can see through ME and his FFP bollox!

Decent chance he'll go at some point soon by looks of it. Bright lights and big paychecks calling, hard for the lad to turn down. MM will find another left back if needed I'm sure, probably won't lose sleep over it.

Jwm, billblue and for everyone moaning about the lack of money being spent- do you want the club going into administration by over spending? The transfer money is being used into wages of the 11 new players, to allow us to have mick, the pitch relaying, and the accademy upgrade! So if you take that into consideration.. Evans has put as much, if not more into the club than previous seasons, to improve the club. Maybe not the players, but I'm sure that will come over the next few seasons!

Wonder where the lub would be without Evans money.
Everyone keeps saying dont sell Cresswell yet the club losses 16million in 2012 and have a debt of 79 million.
If you look at the 10 players brought in and the new contracts given out to players still here, plus the payers the club brought in Jan transfer window, I wonder what the clubs wage bill is now.
The wage bill even with Chopra, Jet and Martin gone has to be higher than last year.

Think we have to be realistic in what the club can achieve this year as the clubs with the parachute payments have a massive advantage.

Karlos I imagine the players brought in this summer and last January were done so on very reasonable wages (in football terms). McGoldrick is probably on the most out of that lot. We have brought in some very average players to form hopefully a good team (long way off yet if you ask me), think our wage bill will have been greatly lowered. Don't forget Martin who was supposedly on £12k+.

JWM I have to say i agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly and you have had the guts to say it knowing ul get marked down for it. Having spent 20k this close season is pathetic. Of course mick has turned round and said he is happy with who he has brought in, he is hardly gonna say anythin else is he??? Even last year we spent minimal ammounts of money and cited ffp as the excuse, even though it wasn't in play at that point. What has ME actually done in his 5 years at the helm??? Put the debt in his bame so we now owe him!!! Charge prem ticket prices (39.50 for a matchday ticket to see leeds!!!) And hant backed the best manager we had in a long time!!! Have we seeb progression in the last 5 yrs under evans?? Not in my eyes. In fact poss the complete opposite

Gary

Good point however if you say the 10 brought in are on 5k a week that's 50k Martin on 12k Chopra on 18k Jet on 15k that's only 45k, I know it's all guess work, but agree with the average players that's why I feel that if the club is fleeting with the play offs it a good start.
MCCarthy know what it takes to get a team up so I would expect more of a push the following season

Good to see him signed up.

Can see that Cresswell will move soon. If we get about 3.3 for him that would be good business and we could invest in Doyle (season long loan), Ebanks-Blake (one year contract) and maybe another left-back youngter to replace Mings if unfit/suspended.

Cresswell leaving could actually do us some good- it would give us badly needed finance.

Either that or we could play Manilow on the left

Good news. He's a long way off being as good as Cresswell but has potential to be a good left back in the future.

JWM and friends - I have a feeling you have played too much Football Manager. Do you spend all your money on lottery tickets in the belief it is the only way you are going to get rich?

Blue_Armee added 08:53 - Aug 28
I think it's about laying solid foundations and gradually building a squad/team that will eventually get us promoted.

We now have the management team in place, we are investing in the academy, we are signing good players on longer term contracts, not letting contracts run down (McCauley, Norris).

I would love us to sign a Billy Sharp etc but ME has tried the quick fix with your Bullards, Chopra's and so on and it hasn't worked.

The reality is we have to be patient.

Blue Armee: You have hit the proverbial nail on the head!! Be patient. I still have a sneaking suspicion that we may put a late bid in for Billy Sharpe. Personally, I sympathise with ME. Look at all the money previous managers have wasted. RK in particular, Priskin, Martin - bought. Jordan Rhodes - sold. It's enough to make a grown man weep.

Incidentally, I hope that Cressy stays as well. I think that he will.

Popeye added 09:23 - Aug 28
I think we can assume Mings contract extension is partly due to the fact that it is looking increasingly likely that Cresswell is going to be leaving this transfer window!
