Taylor Plays Full 90 Minutes
Taylor Plays Full 90 Minutes
Tuesday, 8th Oct 2013 21:56

On-loan striker Paul Taylor completed his first full 90 minutes for Peterborough as Posh beat Brentford 2-1 in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at London Road this evening. Taylor was making his third appearance of his loan spell.

The 25-year-old, who is back at his old club until November 2nd, was involved in his side’s first goal. Bees’ keeper David Button saved his shot but the ball struck defender Martin Taylor and ricocheted back over the line.

The Blues frontman, who spent 11 months on the sidelines with a serious foot injury, came close to scoring his first goal of the season with Button making a number of saves and one shot flying narrowly wide. The victory saw Peterborough into the quarter-finals.

Sounds as if he is doing more than OK. MM may soon have to think of reasons not to have him back

He has played 3 games got 1 MOM and has not scored. We need someone who can score and i do not think he is the answer. (Chris Wood if leicster would let him go out on loan as he is just on the bench now, for me he is the answer.

Taylor has actually only has 12 English league goals to his name in his career so far. Still, he seems to be doing well at Peterborough and I hope that he does return to ITFC ready to play for our first team.

Does anyone know what position he has been playing in for Peterborough in the last three games? Either right midfield, just behind the front two or as a striker I presume.

Agree with Ipswich-4-life .... I would also like to see Chris Wood at Ipswich. Perhaps Tommy could take the opportunity to tell him what a great club Ipswich is when they are next with the NZ squad.....

Ipswich 4 life got plenty of minuses, but the point he/she makes is absolutely valid & the suggestion of Wood is a good shout too.
Sometimes posters need to recognise that pointing out a negative situation about the club that needs addressing is not being disloyal, it can just reflect that you want the best for your team.
I think Taylor is a good player & he would do well behind a striker such as McGoldrick, but I didn't think he was what we needed at the time we paid £1.5m & I don't think he is what we are crying out for now either. Fryatt would have been a great loan signing, I am still hopeful of Ebanks-Blake, but if not Wood from Leicester is the type of forward we most need right now, to pick up the pieces & put the ball in the net from a few yards out.

The fact that Taylor can play on the right, up front or behind the striker makes him a valuable asset.
In the games he played for us before his injury he was lauded by us as his performances were excellent so why all of a sudden is he 'not the answer'? I'd suggest some of you have short memories or are being very fickle...

And those of you who think he's 'not rated' by MM are way off the mark. He's clearly got a lot of talent and adds an injection of pace and directness to our side, it's their plain as day for everyone to see...

Roll on November 4th so we can put these inane discussions to bed....

Keanish im with you.... people can spend a lot of time on this board 'whatiffing' or making stuff up cause it sounds right. The only way we will know what MM thinks of Taylor and what his long term plans for him are is to wait until the loan spell comes to a close. On Paper its looking a fantastic deal, Taylor is getting games and MM gets a chance to see him play first team football (after all he didnt sign him) so can make a clear cut decision on his future. However it could be he doesnt rate him and he wont come back, NOBODY KNOWS! lets just wait and see shall we!

watched col u wolves on sat and leigh griffiths looked a real handfull scored won a penalty he would be a good signing.stearman and kevin doyle looked good to.
maybe we could tempt some of league ones better forwards in january?
I do think we need a poacher but the problem is some of these types of players do little else on the pitch than score the goals which is fine by me but I think mick requires a bit more from them.as far as im concerened if you score 25 a season I dont care what else you do on the pitch

Friend of mine is a Posh season ticket holder. According to him they are playing Taylor as 1 of 2 players behind a single target man. One is tall and strong knocking the ball onto the striker, Taylor offers a turn and run at the defenders, more playing on the deck.

The situation is suiting both clubs, they have cover for Tomlin and Taylor is getting games. After 70 minutes at the weekend he was knackered but it was good to see a full 90 out of him last night.

Town haven't a player like him for many years. Bit of a poor mans Giovani DosSantos.

Chris Wood will not be coming here... He is fighting for a start at a club that are challenging for the crown this season. He is hardly out in the cold at Leicester and being 3rd choice there will clearly mean they'll not even consider letting him go out on loan.

Needs to start banging the goals in down there. I'd be tempted to extend his loan so he can really find some form.

To simply look at the number of goals he has scored is naive at best. Taylor causes mayhem for defences and puts a lot of pressure on the opposition. Things happen we he is on the pitch, he doesn't necessarily need to be the one sticking the ball in the net, so long as someone does.

This seems to me to be the perfect use of a loan? Why is there so much negativity around it on this feed?!

MM has obviously lent him to Posh and said "Play the guy or give him back" which is exactly what he needed. I for one think he will come back refreshed, match fit and ready to slot back into our squad. It was never a case of this being the start of him leaving for me, just an actual clever use of a loan system to get him match sharp.

Well MM and COYB's!

Erm...why is everybody so obsessed with us needing this Striker & that Striker and whether or not Taylor is the answer. Answer to what exactly? We are the 5th highest scoring team in the division at present with the best strike rate at home.
Our issue this season is we are leaking more goals than we were at the end of last season, in my opinion because we haven't replaced Stearman at RB and we miss Chambo's presence in the middle whilst he covers that position for the timebeing.

The only ipswich player (except mcgoldrick) that i find exciting on the ball. He can skip past players and isn't afraid to shoot.

kalypso added 14:45 - Oct 9
what about Nouble and Murphy, not exciting enough??

ArnieMsBigToe added 15:44 - Oct 9
kalypso: If I were MM or TC, I would play McG and either Nouble or Murphy and have Taylor playing just behind. That way, you have quite a nice little trio up front. Keep the ball on the deck: a few 1-2's. Bish bosh wallop!! The net bulges!!

....... I think many of you are taking it for granted that Taylor will indeed want to come back - again 'bluelady' NO ONE KNOWS, or can be certain of that.

As for all the talk of 'wish list' players coming in - chances are they will COST MONEY - therefore forget it.

SouperJim added 18:12 - Oct 9
blueboy he is under contract here for starters...

blueboy1981 added 18:25 - Oct 9
SouperJim - agreed - but it doesn't obligate him to 'want' to return.

I hope he does tho' - we need his flair - watch this space as they say ......

Hindsight is a wonderful thing ... but it now looks like a great decision to send Taylor out on loan. We don't have a game for two weeks, whereas Taylor will feature ... and improve his fitness ... by playing competitive games for Peterborough.

If I was MM, I'd loan out Nouble. I'm sure there's a conference team waiting

He's 26 , his off the pitch record isn't great. This season must be his last chance.
