Marriott Nets Twice as U21s Draw With Swans
Monday, 4th Nov 2013 15:57

Jack Marriott scored twice as Town’s U21s drew 2-2 at Swansea this afternoon with all the goals coming in the first half.

The Blues went behind to Rory Donnelly’s goal within the first five minutes, but Marriott struck back on 24, stabbing home during a goalmouth scramble.

Swansea went back in front via Lee Lucas after Town keeper Michael Crowe had dropped a Kriss Scott cross. But moments before the break Marriott lashed in his second of the game from 20 yards.

In the second half, Liam Shephard hit the post for the Swans, then with a quarter of an hour remaining Marriott came close to completing his hat-trick, rounding keeper Gregor Zabret, but Swansea captain Scott Tancock prevented the ball from crossing the line.

Afterwards the striker tweeted: "Good 2-2 draw away at Swansea, nice to get another two goals as well. Long journey back though."

The Blues included trialist Eoin Wearen in their starting line-up. The 21-year-old Irish U17 and U19 international Wearen is a centre-half or central midfield player who was released by West Ham in the summer without breaking into the senior side, having joined them from St Kevin’s Boys in Dublin in 2008.

A keen Gaelic footballer as a youngster, Wearen spent time on loan at Dagenham and Redbridge in 2011/12, making one start and three sub appearances.

U21s: Crowe, Emmanuel, Timlin, Berkane, Wearen, M Clarke, Doherty, Lawrence (c), Marriott, Winter, Adekunle. Subs: Marsden, Galvin, Bishop, G Clarke.

How isn't he playing first team?! With all the overage players, U21's can't be that different to the Championship nowadays.

Yet still doesn't get a run in the first team struggling for goals!! Second goal was described as 'sublime' on Swansea site.

He needs to go on loan, if he were good enough for first team he'd be there

Look at Rhodes for instance we played him he was average, so we sold him cheaply, but had we loaned him out he would have grown into a good player for us!

Use him or lose him to a club who will "do a Rhodes" with him.
MM can be a stubborn bu**er how will we ever know if he is the answer to our lack of goal scoring ability if he isn't given a proper chance.

It's hard to understand how Frank Nouble can be ahead of him in the striker pecking order

Mick "mid table" Mc Carthy is the ome to go out on loan.

I agree with Muhren how can Frank be ahead of him at least put him on the bench and give him some minutes as a sub cant be worse than the forwards were bringing on and might just sneak a goal.

Thought he was supposed to be injured?Hope Micks not started to tell 'porkys',in addition to not playing flair players, having his favorites and being so so negative;even at home to a bottom three side.

Every word MM says about Nouble is praise and never a game passes when he isn't, at least, brought on. The man must be a cretin to play favourites when for lack of goals we cannot win a match and yet we have a natural goal scorer who is never, ever, given a game. And Mick dont give us the rubbish that he came on in the last match last season. PLAY HIM!

Cant see the point of letting Marriott go out on loan and then replacing him with Harry Kane from Spurs especially as Levy would probably want a loan fee.

Kizaitfc are you for real ?
Rhodes scored loads at all youth levels and reserve football , I don't believe he actually started a game for us but I recall him scoring as a sub, hardly enough to form an average opinion of him ?
And I think you will find he was loaned out to Rochdale where he scored 2 in 5 games and Brentford where he scored 7 in 14 including a hatrick .
It was the worst selling of natural goalscorer ever for Town and we will regret it for many years and cost us millions .
Marriott could be the same but we will not find out under MM because he is not tall and is no use to our hump ball tactics as we create very few chances for a goalscorer

We're on bad form and we can only seem to score 1 goal a game at most, an inform, fresh player like Jack who would be full of confidence and keen to impress would surely benefit the first team? He should get a run out saturday.

....... he doesn't fit McCarthy's bill - far too dangerous in front of goal for Mick's liking.

How much longer is it going to take for some people to realise, and accept, that what we are seeing is : -
MICK McCARTHY.

The fact that he is not being given a run out in first team games is absolutely ludicrous - but the danger is :- HE MAY SCORE - shock horror !!!!

...... the last 20 minutes against Barnsley on Friday would have been an ideal game, and time, to have given him a run out. But I guess that would make too much sense, in terms of the current plan.

At only 5 feet 8", he hardly suits MM,s style of play. Shame.

..... never mind Jack - others will have you on their radar - you'll soon get poached away, just like Rhodes for peanuts - and get your opportunity to prove yourself at this level.

Unfortunately, you must be thinking that it's your only option.

Just because he is doing well in reserves that does mot mean he is ready for first team, and no the u21 is not almost as good as the championship, mm surely knows if he is ready he sees him every day, moronic comments from desparate fans.

Its not just Marriott who deserves a chance. The fact that the midfield is sterile and impotent suggests that some creativity is needed. Think Lawrence has some flair about him so maybe worth a place on the bench.

stinkiusminkius added 19:12 - Nov 4
Giving Marriott a chance would mean trying something new and exciting and breaking away from the norm which isn't the McCarthy way.

Sorry to sound so anti, but Fridays debacle has got me a bit depressed with his stubbornness about tactics and squad usage.
