Three Changes for Town at Blackpool
Saturday, 9th Nov 2013 14:17

Town boss Mick McCarthy has been forced into three changes to his team for today’s game at Blackpool. Tommy Smith is unavailable due to international commitments, Aaron Cresswell is suspended and Paul Anderson is out with a groin injury.

Tyrone Mings starts at left-back, Luke Chambers moves into the centre alongside Christophe Berra for the first time with midfielder Cole Skuse switching to the right-back role he previously occupied while at Bristol City.

Ryan Tunnicliffe and Jay Tabb will fill the central and left midfield roles with skipper Carlos Edwards returning on the right. New signing Stephen Hunt is amongst the subs, as is Anthony Wordsworth.

Blackpool include ex-Town loanees Bradley Orr and Ricardo Fuller from the start, while Michael Chopra is on the bench.

Town: Gerken, Skuse, Chambers, Berra, Mings, Edwards, Hyam, Tunnicliffe, Tabb, Murphy, McGoldrick. Subs: Loach, Hewitt, Veseli, Hunt, Wordsworth, Nouble, Taylor.

Blackpool: Gilks, Bishop, Broadfoot, MacKenzie, Orr, Gosling, Angel, Dobbie, Grant, Ince, Fuller. Subs: Warner, Blackett, Zeegelaar, Delfouneso, Chopra, Davies, Tyson.

First ever post but why have 2 specialist right backs and not play either. I have to trust MM but need convincing of this decision to play Skuse at RB.

If I were Hewitt I'd leave.

Why has MM not picked Hewitt? Chopra's back!!! Hate that guy

Skuse at right back? really? square pegs in round holes again, whats wrong with a conventional right back? give the kid a chance, his confidence must be destroyed by this.

Strange the right back situtation. Is MM afraid of two inexperienced full backs?

How Daryl Murphy keeps getting a game is completely beyond me! Thank god Andersons not playing

Calm down everyone about Hewitt. He is a decent player but MM already has to change Mings in for Cressy, so even the most naive of fickle fans with an anti MM agenda can surely see that 2 novice FBs against a form team at their place does not make sense.

Quick Q Phil/Gav, says Tabb and Tunnicliffe in the centre... Where does that leave Hyam? Presume it's Hyam plus Tunnicliffe in centre with Tabb on the left?

Oops, my bad. Sorry Phil/Gav.

......... more decisions from McCarthy that can only be described as CRAZY.

Skuse at RB. ???

If I were Hewitt I'd get the hell out of this Club - and not waste another minute of my career - the lad must be totally disillusioned with this.

Thought we'd seen some weird Team selections before this man arrived - but this really tops the lot.

Hope we somehow win this game, otherwise I think MM is in for some stick - justifiable too.

Personally I really don't think he cares a hoot about his job, or this Club.

Hewitt's probably feeling a bit miffed though.

We need a blend of youth and experience,Skuse can play full back...so why not.I don't want two kids playing full backs at Blackpool.

Im not naive and im not fickle, the facts are you dont have two right backs in your squad and play centre halves and your BEST central midfielder there ahead of them.
Hewitt is a cracking young player and has only made 1 mistake so far from what ive seen.
Its just a another negative selection from a man whos frightened to death of losing a game.
I like Mick and i appreciate what he did for us last season and i want it to work for him at Ipswich but some of his selections this season have been baffling.

Very strange decisions, MM might have some questions to answer should we lose today, hope i'm wrong though. Go for a 1-0 sneak in the 86th minute from Tunnicliffe! Take a point though

In the 2011—2012 season Bristol City found new manager Derek McInnes who played Skuse in the full-back position on the right hand side. Skuse flourished in this role and scored the first goal in a crucial 2—0 win over Barnsley at Ashton Gate which secured Bristol City's Championship status for the 2012—2013 campaign.

According to wiki Skuse has played right full back so whats the problem?

Alexsmith111-do really think any player is going to give up the chance of playing in the World Cup by refusing to play for his country in a match like this. Get a life.

There's not a big problem with Skuse at right back but I'd like to have seen him stay in the middle.

I'm more bothered about Edwards starting ahead of taylor than Skuse playing right back.
Seen Skuse play their for Bristol City and he's alright. Hewitt is too inexperienced to play at Blackpool for me with their attacking force, he'll get caught out.

Good that we've broken Skuse and Hyam up but Edwards instead of Taylor…????

LankHenners added 14:53 - Nov 9
As long as Mick brings Taylor on for longer than 10 minutes he'll still have some impact!

thebeat added 14:53 - Nov 9
Keaneish id rather Taylor played up with McGoldrick, i think he could feed off McGoldricks hold up play and cause all sorts of problems for defence's with his speed, but if we do that then we cant lump it up so i suppose that will never happen.
I do agree though Taylor should be in

I'll believe Skuse is playing at right-back once the game kicks-off...

Got a feeling MicMac might be trying something new to cope with Blackpool playing 4-3-3; 3 Centre Backs (Mings, Berra, Chambers) with Tabb and Edwards as wing-backs

warktheline added 14:56 - Nov 9
I think Edwards fitness may of played a part in his selection ahead of Taylor.

Those of you jumping on Mick again, do your homework first. Skuse played at right back for Bristol the last two seasons and it was considered his best position for them.

All you so called geniuses calling for Smith to sort it out. Are you really that stupid? His country calls he has no choice but to answer. Not unless he doesn't want to play international football and I am sure you morons would choose club over country.
