McGoldrick Out for 10 Weeks Monday, 17th Feb 2014 12:53 Town’s play-off hopes have been dealt a serious blow with 16-goal top scorer David McGoldrick ruled out for around 10 weeks - all but the final week of the season - with a knee injury. The 26-year-old suffered the problem in the closing minutes of Saturday’s 0-0 home draw with Blackpool.
“Didz [McGoldrick] has suffered a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee,” physio Matt Byard told the club website. “He had an MRI scan this morning and will be wearing a brace for the next six weeks.
“After that, you are looking at the rehabilitation of around four weeks, so in all we’d expect Didz to be out for 10 weeks, which obviously takes us up to the last week of the season.”
Byard says there is better news regarding keeper Dean Gerken, who missed Saturday’s match with a stiff neck, and midfielder Paul Green, who took a heavy knock.
“Gerks has a neck strain but it’s improved today and if that continues, he should be fit to train later in the week,” he added.
“Paul took a bad kick on Saturday but again he should be fine for later in the week."
Midfielder Luke Hyam was forced off in the early stages of Saturday's game with a hamstring problem.

....... always likely to happen - that's the danger of running on a thread bare squad, not unusual, not unique. Step up to the plate SEB - or a suitable replacement (loan no doubt). Doubt Taylor will feature even now. Unless we introduce a huge amount of flair and service to the strike department over and above what we have seen recently - can't see him being missed to be honest (he's had NO service) for weeks. No doubt Mick has already thought out the possibility of placing everyone on the Goal line !!! - it won't work Mick I assure you.

Our play off hopes, such as they were, were dealt a serious blow at the weekend and this is the icing on the cake! All about next season now, if it wasn't before. MM has done an amazing job but needs Evans to back him in the summer if we are going to build on what has been achieved so far.

...... how many shots did we have on target against mighty Blackpool ? Any ? ...... excuse me if I missed one. Reckon Gilks got the easiest earned pay cheque ever for 90 mins work.

..... people keep talking about Evans backing and splashing the cash - not necessarily required - reasonable quality already in the squad, the problem is TACTICS and being too bl**dy negative, constantly defending the 'point' which we start with from at kick-off.

warktheline if i was to sack him i would try and get taricco or anybody who wanted to play attacking football on the ground and build the team up with an emphasis on giving yougsters a chance and set a footballing philosophy through all levels from youth to senior. he has done a good job keeping us up last year but is this style of play really what us fans want going forward

Not Taylor , the toothless striker !!

Gutted.. Recall Marriot and lets build for next season! If I was offered 8th place mid through Feb at the start of the season I would have happily taken that! I dont see the value of bringing someone on loan unless they are top quality or we have a realistic view of signing them in the summer! COYB, Super Mick!

That's that then, unless we can get someone in PDQ! One of three of our players that would possibly be okay in the premier league! Start looking MM !!

With Ebanks-Blake and Taylor in the squad, this shouldn't really be an issue... But it is for two different reason. This last week is the first time ive been critical of MM and TC and probably rightly so.

Our chances of making the play-offs were already minimal, especially with Reading winning against QPR - who were we going to catch in the top six - and how? So be grateful for what a fantastic job MM has done thus far. And forget all this talk of Evans splashing cash - the future will be all about Financial Fair Play, not spunking money clubs can't afford. We will have to develop young players, and sell them on for more than we paid for them, not pay fortunes for players who we subsequently let go for nothing, as has been the case under the last two managers,. I do agree that MM is too negative, especially against sides we should be setting up to beat, not to neutralise, hence far too many draws against weak teams. But overall, it's a really great improvement, it really is.

I'm not talking about Evans splashing vast amounts of cash but he's going to have to spend more than the £20,000 MM was allowed to spend last summer! We have gone from spending millions to spending peanuts overnight and both are as ineffective as each other. Judicious spending will strengthen the team which is what it needs. Developing a whole team from the academy is totally unrealistic and free transfers and out of contract players will only get us so far. And before someone starts talking about Evans having backed MM in terms of wages for players, unless there is a way of running a football club without players then paying wages is an inescapable expense which hardly qualifies as backing!

RegencyBlue what you fail to take into account is that there are too many professional standard players to go aroung and with FFP clubs will not be offering players new deals-even good players.you could easily have spent a couple of million on mcgoldrick, berra,SEB,skuse and hunt but they were available on a free so we got them-end of story. they can all play football and we have good lads from the academy who are not given a proper chance.the fact in if mcarthy wanted to play a decent style of football and pass, move attack teams with good football the players we have are capable of doing that but this is just micks way and he will never change. joe royal had sod all but still we had a good go and would watch his team over are current side 10m times out of ten. look at swansea and some of the players bredan rodgers got playing good football or blackpool when they went up under holloway-they threw everything at the oppostion played good footie and even when they went up they had a budget restraint of 8,000 a week and lost out on players to L1 clubs. mick wants to play like this he is not being forced to do it because of budget restraints

It can only be a great improvement with comparisons done at the end of the season not half way through , it doesnt matter if you start poorly or finish poorly if you still end up low mid table its still low mid table and that is where we will end up because of our inability to beat poor sides other teams beat . It doesnt matter if we only get beat 1-0 or 2 -1 by top teams if we still lose and get no points . And as i said earlier it was not ME who picked a center back and defensive central midfielder to play on the right Saturday or Nouble for most of the season above others it is MM

I think we should be like mick and TC Stop feeling sorry for ourselves and get on with it,

I certainly wouldn't pin hopes on SEB, it'll take a good few games to get match fit(u21's is not the same)and who's confident he can remain injury free? Could bring Marriot back but certainly not to start... We're in trouble, stating the obvious :)....shrewd loan move required me feels..

Mick must be rubbing his hands a good opportunity to play another centre half!!
Pilgrimblue added 20:54 - Feb 17
Very sad as this was his chance to score 20 goals irrespective of where we'll finish. Still time for SEB to show if he's got it or not. I'd like to see Marriott back asap as he's got chance to come off bench. rather than proving nothing at Woking. We should be getting rready for next season and hopefully he'll be part of it
Lightningboy added 21:51 - Feb 17
Oh great..only just seen this. Well that's that then. If I was Mick i'd recall Marriott and give him the experience at this level for the rest of what will now be a season of mid-table mediocrity.
thebeat added 22:33 - Feb 17
We'd all love to see Taylor and Marriott given a chance bit we know thats not going to happen. It would be good for Jack to get some appearances from the bench to get experience for next season and Taylor given a good run upfront would give us some speed, aggression and creativity but im afraid it will be Nouble and Murphy with SEB coming off the bench. I honestly think Mick will go when hes offered a job where he can spend some money and hes padding his record at the moment keeping the defeats down by scrapping for everything. The rest of the season will be the same as it has been all season, get a point nick it if the opposition runs out of steam. At least standing in the SBR Lower i dont get a sore neck.
IvorFeeling added 22:50 - Feb 17
Think that ME will rue not backing MM in the Jan trasnfer window as in the grand scheme of things approx £2m punt would have been a made sense. McGoldrick has scored 14 in the league so far, over a third of our goals, and whilst SEB has the pedigree to step upto the plate he will have to hit the ground running. Also some have already pointed out that it was already looking a tough ask with Reading beating QPR yesterday to go 5 points clear of us. 70pts looks minimum to get into the playoffs and it could be much more which means we need to average just under 2pts per game which I think with our squad will be beyond us but beaing a blue I live in hope.
IvorFeeling added 22:54 - Feb 17
Also as others have stated bringing Marriott back and playing him is a no brainer!
Warkys_Tash added 22:55 - Feb 17
Gutted. The other teams in and around the top 6 are rubbing their hands, if indeed we had any chance it just disappeared. As for Taylor, there must be off the field issues us fans are unaware of - perhaps he has been a naughty boy again, who knows? Doubt he will play anymore &'likely sold for peanuts in the summer. Shame, he looked good against QPR. Get well soon Didz, missing you already!
