Berra Player of the Year
Saturday, 12th Apr 2014 21:34

Christophe Berra was named the Town Supporters’ Player of the Year at tonight’s Player Awards evening. The Scotland international beat Daryl Murphy into second place, David McGoldrick into third and last year's winner Tommy Smith into fourth.

Berra also won the Junior Blues Player of the Year award, while McGoldrick carried off the Away Match Passport holders’ gong.

Centre-half Berra tweeted: "Thanks to all the fans who voted me Supporters and Junior Blues Player of the Year. #honoured. Now prepare for a big Easter weekend."

Second-year scholar Kyle Hammond won the Dale Roberts Academy Player of the Year award. The right-back, who is out of action for the next seven to nine months with a knee ligament injury, recently agreed a professional contract with the Blues.

Could have easily been any of the top three but well deserved for Berra. He has been a rock at the back with Smith all season. Also popped up with a few goals too!

I didn't get to vote (missed the person with the clipboard!) but would have voted for Berra anyway - he's been great in defence.

I'm sure McGoldrick would have been right up there had it not been for his injury.

The right decision but good to see Murphy's efforts recognised as well.

Well deserved, now how's about a new 3 year contract, quickly.
Delighted for Murphy too; he's had his critics over the years, but he was always worth a spot in the matchday squad & has been consistently good this season.
With Ebanks-Blake showing a bit more of what he can do lately & McGoldrick coming back to fitness, we could be very strong up front were we to make the playoffs. Again I'd be hoping for new contracts for these guys; good first team quality players for the Championship, but also lads that would make the squad of a Premiership club.

Well deserved but for me it should have been murphy. This guy has stepped up 110 % this season and is a completely different player. He would be level with mcgoldrick if he was on pens.

It's amazing to think that we didn't pay a single penny for any of the top 3!!
Great bit of transfer business

The top two were our best players. Onwards and upwards!

Absolutely. But it's even more amazing when you consider that none of our starting 11 yesterday cost us a transfer fee.

like many others could not find the "voting booth" but would have voted for Berra, Murphys contribution this season also needs a mention always puts in a good shift.

I would have gone for Murphy as well, not just for this season, but for having been one of our more consistent performers in the past few. Still, the fact that there were about 4 or 5 legitimate candidates shows how far the club's come...

How did so many of you not see the 'clipboard holders'??? There were 4 on Portman Road alone. Unless they weren't as abundant elsewhere
