Williams Set for Town Return
Saturday, 27th Sep 2014 20:36

TWTD understands that Crystal Palace’s Jonny Williams is due at Town on Monday to formalise a second loan spell with the Blues.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a hugely successful stint with Town towards the end of last season, scoring one goal in 11 starts and two sub appearances.

While manager Mick McCarthy played down the likelihood of a further addition to his squad at his post-match press conference, earlier in the day, speaking Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch, MD Ian Milne hinted that a deal was close.

“Watch this space,” Milne said. Pressed further on whether a new signing could be on the cards, he added: “Just wait and see, but, yes, I think so. I’m not going to say who.”

Williams was left out of Palace’s 18 for their 2-0 home win against Leicester today, having played the first 80 minutes of their Capital One Cup defeat to Newcastle on Wednesday.

The midfielder has been tipped for a loan move to the Blues or another of a number of interested Championship clubs since the summer, but new manager Neil Warnock had been keen to take a look at the Wales international before sending him out for a spell.

Outside the transfer window Championship clubs are permitted to take players on loans of up to 93 days.

Warnock has confirmed that Williams’s long-term future is at Selhurst Park with his contract running until the summer of 2018.

Fantastic news if it's true. I thought Neil Warnock liked him though?

I know a lot of people are saying he will push bishop out the team, but if we swap him in for sammon instead...

Gerken
Parr Chambers Berra Mings
Skuse Bishop Hyam
Mcgoldrick Williams
Murphy

Bring it on Sheffield Wednesday!

Hmmm, would have welcomed this a while back but not sure we need him now, would rather see Bishop, Bru or Hyam start above JW. I fear for Bishop in particular, a young player with plenty of promise who's our own should get a start above loan players.

Oh my word!! Unbelievable!! If I see Williams and McGoldrick in the same team I might pass out

If anything in a midfield 3 you'd expect it to be Williams, Bishop definite with either Skuse or Hyam holding

if true then this will be the starting line up.
gerkin
parr - chambers - berra - mings
bishop - hyam - skuse
williams
murphy - mcgoldrick

and IMO that team is more then capable of competing at the very top of this league

GREAT NEWS! Assume if we sign him we'll have to stick to 4-3-3 with him either at tip of midfield or him and murph either side of mcgoldrick up top? We could be one force going forward

Count_Arthur

Bishop's time will come. Our time is now. Why would you rather have Bru in the team as opposed to a far better player in Williams?

Don't agree with you CountArthur - Bishop can still play a big part in the squad this season, let's face it Bishops displays over the last few weeks has come of something of a surprise, I'm sure they'll be the odd injury in midfield in the months ahead which he'll accommodate if not certainly as a fairly regular substitute.

Get in!!! This could be a crucial signing towards a play off place. Hate to sound pessimistic but he hasn't played a lot of football since he left so I'd give him time to settle back in before we go over the top. Can't deny I'm absolutely ecstatic though!

soon as I saw he wasn't even on the bench I guessed he'd be on the move and we'd be his preferred destination. It does help having a manager who other managers respect. and trust..but he genuinely loved his time at Ipswich, hence him coming along to the league cup game.

What will this mean for a Teddy Bish?

Yes I'm happy about this but surely The Bish deserves a decent run in the side?
