Hunt Joining Town On Loan
Wednesday, 26th Nov 2014 15:25

TWTD understands that Leeds striker or winger Noel Hunt is expected at Town on Thursday morning to complete the formalities on a loan deal through to January, the clubs having agreed terms. The switch is with a view to a permanent move.

Earlier this afternoon, reports in Yorkshire revealed that the Blues had made an approach for Hunt, a long-time target of Town boss Mick McCarthy. In September, TWTD reported that the Blues manager had been keen on signing the 31-year-old - the younger brother of winger Stephen Hunt - earlier in the summer.

Hunt junior, who will train with his new team-mates at Playford Road for the first time in the morning, started his career in Ireland with Shamrock Rovers and with hometown club Waterford United, where he had a spell on loan, before moving on to Scotland where he played for Dunfermline and Dundee United.

Capped three times by Ireland, Hunt joined Reading in July 2008, before following his former Royals’ boss Brian McDermott to Elland Road in the summer of 2013.

Hunt, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has made only one start and one sub appearance so far this season, both in the opening week of the campaign.

Overall, he has made 14 starts and eight sub appearances for the Whites without scoring having missed much of last season due to injury.

Town's signing of Hunt means the Blues are now unlikely to pursue their interest in 19-year-old Chelsea midfielder John Swift, who has been training at Playford Road this week.

Football League clubs have until 5pm on Thursday to sign players on emergency loans.

Town also have Ireland international defender Sean St Ledger on trial and the 29-year-old may be offered a short-term contract through to January, although there is no hurry to agree a deal for the former Leicester man as he is currently a free agent.

Renovating rusty and apparently washed-up strikers is TC's speciality. Keep the faith, it won't cost much if it goes wrong!

Bluenose - Brighton are paying Bent £40k a week and we are still paying Williams £20k a week to be injured!

They were desperate, we are adding a bit of strength in depth to a very good first XI

Don't quite get this, but Mick has done an outstanding job in his time here and his judgement has generally been spot on with regards to players. Don't think he is better than what we have, which is what Mick Said was he criteria he was looking at. I think we should have gone in for mcgugan on loan from Watford. Would have added goals to midfield

I don't get it. I just can't see what role he has to play. It is alomst reminiscent of a PJ signing.

When you consider the form of Didz and Murph, and the fact with have Stewart yet to start on the wings, not sure he is needed. i would've thought a young prem full-back as cover to be the only likely loan signing.

If MM is worried about options up front (which is plausable) at least bring Nouble back first.

However:

2-3 years ago he looked a good player. 31 is only the same age as Murphs, so he can hardly be seen as knackered out. He does add experience of promotion pushes, and with his brother here can form a chuckle brother-like morale officer partnership!

He deserves a chance to show us that he can do a job. We all said we didn't want to sign Murphy permanently at one point and look how that turned out. If he's good enough for Mick McCarthy then he's fine by me. He probably can't be any worse than Conor Sammon. (HOPEFULLY!!!!)

Michael11 - Speak for yourself re Murphy. Always been a good player, but more recently has added LOTS of goals to his game.

Hunt has never done much, and scored NO GOALS in 19 appearances for Leeds.

We needed another midfield player to ensure we have 15 for every position.

The bloke has only been linked and yet people are slating him. If he had played five games for us and played awful could understand it. We are adding the right people to the right squad. It has shown that with true team spirit and togetherness is really the key ingredient to winning and losing in this division. We are building a team. Mick won't sign players who will rock the boat. Hence why Taylor has left. Undoubted quality and is a very good player. But might I add he is also a individual player. And that's the foundation our team is built on now. Noel has all the key ingredients to be a mick signing for the squad he is trying to build. Players like Lewis Mcgugan. Great player don't get me wrong. But also another who is an individual. We have our special player and that's mcgoldrick.

Strange when we have Cameron Stewart and Alex Henshall as of yet have hardly figured at all this season...oh and Jack Collison (almost forgot him), so why do we need Noel Hunt?

Seems a strange signing . If we are looking to get a midfielder in , surely we need one that scores goals - not sure this one fits the bill . There must be better options out there .
