Stoke City are the latest Premier League club reported to be ready to make a move for Town left-back Tyrone Mings.

According to the Sunday People, who rate Mings at a mere £4 million, Potters manager Mark Hughes is keen to step up his interest in the 21-year-old.

Having turned down a Crystal Palace offer of £3.5 million in the summer, the Blues are unlikely to even consider bids below eight figures with manager Mick McCarthy having said he expects owner Marcus Evans to rebuff all but the most outrageous of offers during the January window.

“I’ve got an owner that’ll back me because we turned down money for two of the players in the first window. I’ve no doubt that he’s going to do it again,” he said.

Speaking on another occasion, he added: “He’s proved that with the bids coming in.

"But I always say that if somebody comes in with an absolutely astronomical bid and it’s bonkers and the player comes in and says ‘Gaffer!’ that is impossible to stop at any club.

“Gareth Bale’s at Real Madrid, he went for £80-odd million. There are certain things that are unstoppable.

“But it would have to be one of them. And if it was, I’d have to say ‘fine’ because I’m not going to argue with it.”

Premier League clubs were again well represented at yesterday's game against Derby and scouts from the UK and abroad will again be out in force when the Blues face Southampton in their FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday.

Yesterday he was poor and I think Parr probably deserved to keep his place against Derby, having played well in recent weeks. Mings does have pace to burn, but yesterday he was playing with the brakes on. His first touch was poor and he didn't have a great game. He is still young and has potential, wouldn't take 4 million though, coz that's not enough. Don't think that any team will pay 10 million tho at this stage

The moment he received the ball Russell was on him like a magnet. Good tactics from Steve McLaren. McGoldrick also got similar treatment, particularly on the edge of the box where this season he has most be left to drift with the ball. I think Derby's work ethic was what sneaked them the points yesterday. And and by the way Stoke. £4million. Are you having a laugh? Shaw went for £27 mil. So please use that as your barometer, not the Cresswell fee!!

Gulf in class is enormous between our midfield and that of the rest of the top 6. The best 2 players in the Championship are Wil Hughes and Mat Richie

jas0999 added 14:01 - Jan 11 Mings probably isn't worth 10M but he is worth more than 4 M considering we rejected 3.5 M in August. The trouble is we have a small squad as it us, with 4 or 5 leaving recently. We can I'll afford to lose anyone else with half a season still to play, unless Evans allows every single penny of the transfer fee to be spent. Considering they said we would be spending the Cresswell money - and we haven't - then I'm not optimistic money will be spent this time, which makes any sale pointless.

dirtydingusmagee added 14:23 - Jan 11 he didnt look happy yesterday, dont know if he was feeling under the weather or frustrated with the way things were going.Hopefully he will get that game out of his head now and do his stuff,i hope he stays, selling is one thing ,getting replacements another. Dont think we will be getting anyone in other than on loan ,due to clubs financial limitations, Mick has done very well so far with his budget since he was appointed keep faith !

DerryfromBury added 16:31 - Jan 11 For what its worth I believe Tyron needs another 12 months with us, whether it be in the Championship or PL (PL we all hope). Yesterday was proof that he is not yet the finished article by some way. There has never been any doubt IMO that he has the potential to be a fantastic asset not only for his club (whoever that happens to be) but for England. I believe Parr is a more rounded player at the moment, not knocking Tyron's effort for 1 minute, but believe Parr would have dealt with Russell more effetely.

philpott2 added 17:24 - Jan 11 £4 million? Take him Stoke.......let him go. For me he was our worst player in both the last two matches, Southampton and yesterday v Derby. He can't defend, poor touch, lazy tracking back, out of position most of the time and makes half-hearted / weak challenges for the ball. Play Parr, who can 'defend', runs both up and down the line with purpose and can cross the ball too.

Tractastic added 19:38 - Jan 11 With Parr in the squad happy to let Mings go for 6-10 million as long as MM is allowed to spend the money on a couple of quality midfielders to compliment the likes of Bishop that can keep us in the top 2. Our midfield on Saturday was given a lesson on ball retention and distribution and must be the weakest in the top 6 by a distance. We have a great back four with Parr or Mings and a quality partnership up front so surely it makes sense to strengthen the midfield doesn't it?

parhamblue added 19:46 - Jan 11 May well be time to play Mings in a different position, perhaps to make full use of the asset he clearly is. Yesterday there was an opportunity to play in centre midfield due to Skuse unavailability. Instead Mick picked Hyam who would normally be the go-to player in that position, but has been under the weather so more of a gamble than usual. And when are we going to see Mings' alleged prowess as a future world class centre back, if that's what Mourinho and Wenger really think?
