Town Targeting Two Saturday, 15th Aug 2015 22:48 Town MD Ian Milne has revealed that the Blues are currently involved in discussions with a view to adding two players to the squad.
Speaking to BBC Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch at lunchtime about the £8 million fee achieved for left-back Tyrone Mings earlier in the summer, Milne said: “We’re very pleased, it’s given us a lot of latitude and we’ll see what else happens, there maybe a few other things going on at the moment.”
One of the two players currently being targeted is Hearts defender Jordan McGhee with various reports in Scotland claiming the Blues had a further offer of £500,000 turned down towards the end of the week.
Town were already understood to have had two previous bids rejected by the SPL side but with negotiations having been continuing.
McGhee, a 19-year-old right-back or centre-half, who captains Scotland at U21 level, came on as a sub in the 54th minute as Hearts won 2-1 away at Ross County this afternoon.
Milne added: “We’ll get the right players in to be part of the team. Mick has said that you don’t want too big a squad because that starts friction and all the rest of it.
“There are some options we’ve got and there’ll be some options coming in, I’m sure.”
You can hear Life's a Pitch, which also features interviews with Tyrone Mings and Kieron Dyer, here.
Meanwhile, Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill was at Portman Road this afternoon running the rule over the likes of Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick.

A goalkeeper hopefully. Bart and Gerks are decent shot stoppers, but we need an authoritative keeper. Someone controlling the area.
ElderGrizzly added 23:11 - Aug 15
Williams who averages 10 starts a season across his whole career due to injury. Not for me right now. Other positions much more in demand

Just a guess really but seeing as we were in for Dallas and him being a winger I would imagine it's most likely to be a winger.

Def think we need a decent winger on the bench we have no real back up in that area as he clearly doesn't rate Connelly, henshall etc. Wasn't there talk of stearman too? Really do rate him

Bluelady - Mick rates Connolly very highly, he's just been injured quite a bit. We need back up though i agree!

Two? That's interesting. Assuming McGhee is one, that would surely give us enough defenders. A goalkeeper is possible, as I do worry slightly that Bart isn't quite the quality to be in a promotion side although he did very well today and that late save meant we didn't suffer a repeat of Brentford. If we're to play with wingers, a third one (who we actually own) may be a good idea as Maitland-Niles and Fraser won't have the energy to play 90 mins of every match. None of our young wingers seem ready for the first team.

I thought Hearts wanted 500k? So we match that and then they get greedy? Why put a price of 500k on him if theyre gonna move the goalposts? W**kers

Would love us to sign Eirik Johansen Ex Man city and u23 Norwegian goalie. Would be available for a small fee, current team New York City. Rated!! And a massive goalie. Would be the goalie we're waiting for.

lets not forget that for all our excellent play today, Bart actually won us that game with his stop at the very end, and collected a lot of crossed balls right in to his hands. A very very good understated performance

This reminds me of: we've got some irons in the fire..... Anyone remember that?

McAnuff (Trained with us last week) and McGhee

For those of you moaning about Bart, he saved us 2 points today right at the death. Top class save, took all the pressure off the defence by claiming crosses and set plays!! Good result against a good team

Wouldn't also surprise me if we signed Ian Harte. Another one of Micks Irish player, ex Bournemouth and free/unattached. Great free kick taker/corner taker. And great back up for the left back position with bags of experience.

@jimmy86- he also dropped us 2 last week (not all the blame albeit) but a decent goalkeeper would have saved us today and not made the mistake last week I'd say. New right back a and for me a really good goalkeeper, there are a lot of good goalkeepers, because they all want to be number 1! People need to stop pining their hopes on Jonny williams, I love him and he's a great player but just stop

Clearly the player from Hearts is one, don't know where the leaks are coming from on that one but it's not us, as for number two it'll be a case of you might find out about it on the morning of his physical as per ususal. It's a good way of doing business, well played ITFC. MM (and to be fair Ian Milne) has (Have) brought more than just an improvement to the playing side to this club, doing business in the right way means a lot especially in the long term. And just another quick point, there isn't actually a quote in the above that suggestes what's in the headline (ie: we are in for 2 players), I presume it was said and not written up here!

Mcanuff looks almost certain to sign. May sound a strange signing but would be an ok back up as a winger. As for McGhee, feel we need to make one final bid then move on. Harte seems unlikely, unless he's coming in as a Player/coach (which isn't impossible). If Knudsen got injured (God forbid) we would be left a little short in the left-back department. Been really impressed with our play so far, but we definitely need a larger squad if we are going to compete for a top 6 position this season. Bart has done well in goal and Smith seems really ready for the new season. If anything, it's our stalwart players (Murphy and Berra) who look a little "out of it" so far. Like many others on here, really looking forward to McDonnell bursting on the scene. Think he will have the same impact as Teddy Bishop did last season. Exceptionally talented player that we are lucky to have. Wednesday will have a good season this year. They were technically very sound, but for some strange reason used hoof-ball a bit too much. Pleased with the 4 points we have so far. Given the pressure at the end, we could easily have 2 points at this point. Though it may be unpopular- Pittman and Sears should start the next game. Murphy on as a sub.

Agree with jas0999. We need a new GK and a new Rb. Chambers is a great player but not as a Rb.if possible, Stearman.
battyblue added 06:14 - Aug 16
Guentchev...........yes totally agree with start Sears and Pittman ahead of Murph also still not convinced with Chambo at right back we could do a lot better suppose there is Parr to come back but cant see MM changing it somehow can you.
Europablue added 06:33 - Aug 16
I don't think we need a new right back as we already have Emmanuel, but if Stearman were available I don't think anyone would complain. Goalkeeper, I am not totally convinced we need a new one. I would say there is no point unless they are the type of player who could play in the Premier League.
muccletonjoe added 07:26 - Aug 16
Bart did well against Wednesday, commanded his area and took the pressure off. Needs to be like that every game. I think both players coming in will be defenders, definitely won't be Williams

MVBlue - I remember John Bond being quoted as saying 'I've got some irons in the fire and I'm keeping them close to my chest' - that made Colemanballs in Private Eye complete with a cartoon of the Norwich 'supremo' sweatingly grasping a brazier. We just never seem to be able to match our neighbours when it comes to public ridicule.
