Hearts Hope Town Have Ended McGhee Interest
Thursday, 20th Aug 2015 09:27

Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson says his club has heard nothing new from Town regarding right-back or centre-half Jordan McGhee and hopes the Blues have now ended their interest in the 19-year-old.

Town made offers of up to £250,000 for the Scottish U21s skipper earlier in the month and towards the end of last week were reported to have had a further bid of £500,000 rejected. But Neilson says there’s been no recent contact.

“We’ve heard nothing so I take it that deal won’t be happening if they’ve moved on,” he told the Edinburgh Evening News.

“The pleasing thing from our point of view is we get to keep a hold of Jordan. I’m sure he will be happy as well that he can stay with us and play. You just don’t know if they’ll come back in.

“When the team is successful and the players are playing well, there’s always going to be interest in them.

“Hearts want to develop players and they will move on eventually, but it has to be to the right environment and for the right price. We’ll just need to wait and see what happens. We’re prepared that, if somebody moves on, we can move for somebody else.”

Sounds desperate for us to bid again.

Wouldn't be amused if I were a Hearts fan.

All part of the negotiation process.

Now I'm in the "Spend all the money" camp. However it is now obvious that Hearts are taking the pee and I am pleased that we have moved on.

I'm not overly pushed at this stage, he's not a regular starter for them & he wants to play centre half rather than RB so he's not the answer to our biggest area of concern, this season anyway. If he signs fine, he's another for the future, but if Mick & the club have moved on I respect their determination to not be arsed around by other clubs looking to take advantage of the Mings sale.

I hope it's not over and mick will be back in soon.
I think this is more mick holding all the cards and not gonna pay over the top for a player as they clearly know we have a few quid in the bank now.
Micks shrewd and not gonna be done over.

Len, Mick has made it clear that Chambers is the first choice right back for this season.

We have young central defenders like Yorwerth, Clark and Robinson who are all highly rated and we also have Emmanuel and who has made his debut at right-back.

So unless McGhee is much much better I don't think we will up our bid to match Herats valuation.

Promising talent but a 19 year old with just 40-odd career appearances in Scotland is not going to come in, push an established player for his position and play every game for us at right back in the Championship. Signings like Knudsen show that there are experienced players out there for the right money.

They probably now have an unsettled player on their hands and hoping for another(higher) offer from elsewhere

Sounds like they held out for more money and we said no but really as a selling club they wanted the money, now they are talking about it to generate interest again, if you didn't want to sell you would keep quiet wouldnt you?

@MrBloo: I'm not sure that he has. First & foremost he has a side capable of challenging for promotion & he knows that this season is a good a chance as he is going to get here also he is now top of the league so his chance of bringing someone new in as at its peak.
I think he has made it clear that Chambo will be in his side, but I think he'll take Tommy's spot if a right back option is brought in.

I take Phil's report which states that Mick has said the back four is known as being Chambers, Smith, Berra and Knudsen.
I see no sign of a new full back coming in or Smith being dropped for Chambers if that were to happen. Mick knows that Emmanuel is up to the task if Chambers gets injured so why would he be looking to bring in another right back?

Bloo,
I think you might be surprised. We'll see soon enough I suppose.

he also has Parr who plays at right back and Hammond coming along nicely. How many right backs does he need?

nhabo - he certainly won't come in an replace anyone at Right Back, as he isn't a Right Back!

Interesting one this. On the one hand if and its a big if, McGhee is a top MM target I'd be disappointed if ME is unable to do a deal for the type of money reported. That said, we shouldn't be held to ransom either. With the club declaring they are after two new signings, it will be a shame if we don't do any more business before the transfer deadline. We should be looking to build on the excellent start and after receiving such a large amount of money for Mings plus saving hundreds of thousands on wages since the end of last season, despite some excellent signings to date, we should be looking to press on. No excuse not too.

Why would STEARMAN come here? He's been made captain at a club also pushing to go up to the premiership and playing his preferred center back position. I think it's time to forget about another right back as MM seems happy with CHAMBERS and the youngsters we have. A couple more loans when the loan window opens to cover for any injuries/suspensions and we all set. Just think.. if we win every match now we're up!! COYB

I don't like Cambo at r/b and never have to be honest but the only way that's going to change is if He or Smith gets injured a bit like teddy Bishop the only reason he got selected initially was because there was no one else available.

Bloo,
We only only need one more, the right one, a ready to go established right back who will play week in/week out in the league (barring injury).
Chambers is a centre half - filling in
Parr is a left back - would be filling in (although a better fit that Chambo in my view). Mick sees him as a defensive/wide utility player who has had injury problems.
Having young players coming through is great news, but as Mick himself has said they won't get you through the season.
In short, we need one right back, who is a right back, who we can have confidence in when the better sides with the quality left wingers are our opponents.
Emmanuel may well be such a player in time, but he's not there yet & this is too massive a season for us to be expecting that of him.
