Douglas Return Only Change at Rotherham
Saturday, 7th Nov 2015 14:07

Town boss Mick McCarthy makes one change to his side for today’s game at Rotherham with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who suffered a foot injury in Tuesday’s 2-0 win against Bolton, dropping to the bench and Jonathan Douglas starting, while David McGoldrick misses out on a place on the bench having been a pre-match doubt with a groin problem.

The Blues again look set to start in a 4-3-3 formation with Freddie Sears, Daryl Murphy and Brett Pitman up front.

Former Town loanees Danny Collins, Paul Green and Frazer Richardson all start for the bottom-of-the-table Millers. Midfielder Brandon Barker, 19, who joined on loan from Manchester City is handed his senior debut. Full match preview here.

Rotherham: Camp, Richardson, Rawson, Collins, Toffolo, Thorpe, G Ward, Green, Barker, Derbyshire, D Ward. Subs: Collin, Broadfoot, Buxton, Smallwood, Newell, Clarke-Harris, Andreu.

Town: Gerken, Chambers (c), Smith, Berra, Knudsen, Skuse, Douglas, Bru, Sears, Pitman, Murphy. Subs: Bialkowski, Malarczyk, Parr, Coke, Maitland-Niles, Oar, Touré. Referee: Darren Drysdale (Lincolnshire).

Bugger I thought McCarthy was telling porkies during the week about AMN and instead of Oar the only winger in the squad he goes for Douglas.
Oh well fingers crossed.

Well done ANM you got your first goal so I am dropping you for a pairing that has failed over and over again .
Can't see how this is a. 4.3.3 who is left midfield ? 4 4 2 with Sears as a winger

Surco, a 4-3-3 has 3 CMs, and 3 up top. Sears and Pitman likely to play the wider roles I think, but will interchange, as all of them can do a pretty decent job

Sam if Sears and Pitman play the wide roles that is a 4.5.1 against a team bottom who haven't won for ages , hope it wworks but don't see what Douglas offers compared to ANM ?

Personally I'd have preferred Oar in for ANM to give a bit of pace and width to the side but we all know we must throw caution to the wind and shore up the defence with a defensive narrow midfield! Rotherham are in a false league position, they can be dangerous!

If it really is 433 then I sort of understand but if Sears or pitman are wide in a 442 then wtf

......... no such thing as a bad point !! hahaha - looks as if that will indeed be the mission - unless certain players decide otherwise ..... we can only hope.

Pitman and Sears can play wide without it being a 4-5-1.
Let's be honest though, it's a 4-4-2.

AMN is carrying a knock which may hamper him over 90 mins, it sounds like a good call to hold on to him for the last 30 mins without doing too much damage to his foot.

But I think it will be 4231

So if we win it's because the players will get us out of a hole. If we lose it's the managers fault. Right??

Douglas is good in a central 3

The man will do anything to get his "boys" back in the team. Lets face it as soon as he chose the tortoise over Oar on Tuesday night he was gona be in the side until we lose 4 or 5 in a row again. He is one of the "undroppables" after all...

He's kept it the same as Tuesday which went well what's the problem?

For those moaning about Douglas being in for AMN, were you there Tuesday night? I thought the change then would be Oar as a straight swap at the time, but Douglas actually had his best game for us then in my opinion.
