Barnsley Youngster Joins On Loan
Saturday, 2nd Jan 2016 11:42

Town have signed 20-year-old Barnsley central midfielder Paul Digby on loan until the end of the season. He has joined the squad for the trip to Burnley but is ineligible for today's game.

Sheffield-born Digby came through the ranks at Oakwell and won their Most Promising Academy Player award in 2008.

Digby made his senior debut as a 16-year-old in September 2011 and has gone on to make 11 starts and 14 sub appearances for the Tykes. His only games this season were one League One start and two matches from the bench in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Capped by England at U19 and U20 levels, 6ft 4in tall Digby, who can also play at right-back, spent time on trial with Manchester United earlier this year. He is contracted until the summer of 2017.

Meanwhile, full-back Jonny Parr is interesting Strømsgodset and other clubs back in his native Norway, according to reports in Scandinavia.

The 27-year-old's contract with Town is up at the end of the season.

If Parr leaves it will be a disgrace......never got a chance & to many looked eminently good enough for the team. Will be a massive loss.
On a separate note thus guy must be some player - according to Mick yesterday he must therefore be better than everyone in our squad !!!!!

He must be good - according to Wikipedia he has played 20 games for Barnsley and scored 17,886 goals!!!!! ;-)

He's also 6"4/5 so another giant to add to our squad. If Mick and his scouting team have identified him as having potential then he could be a very good signing (long term).

Shame about Parr but you can't blame him if he leaves, he's only ever been a bit part player here...

He may be able to play right back but we have one or two others who can play there Jonny Parr for starters who in my eyes is a much better option,Parr treatment at this club since MM came has been disgusting to say the least he is a very very good defender but always used as a stopgap player to fill in when a so called regular was unavailable,he was good enough to come in and score goals but still drooped when micks favorite was available again.

Such positivity amongst the fans (?) on this site. Give the kid 5 mins before moaning. Unbelievable.

I fully agree with you about Parr. But part of me wonders if there is more to this than meets the eye. I recall MM saying (after Mings had made a brilliant debut )...." I hope he (Parr) was watching that today. Maybe his injury has just got a lot better.....I dont know ".

Odd thing to say IMO , but led me to believe that relations between MM and Parr werent that good. Well he hasnt played much has he, and maybe that comment alludes to more than we have been privvy too. I have no dobuts whatsover that Parr will leave this Club. He was due to leave in the summer but figures couldnt be agreed ( So I was led to believe). But yes, He will leave . Just one of those things and I wish him well but widh we had seen more of him becuase he is a natural defender in either left or right bcak positions.

A promising young player arriving just in time to show his mettle against Pompey. If good could be cover for Bishop/McGoldrick. Welcome!

Seems strange that hes only played 25 games in 4 years for Barnsley but United and Liverpool have sniffed round him and hes involved with young England so he must have something about him.
As for Parr ive made my thoughts quite clear in the past, he is simply the best fullback at this club on either side but his face doesnt fit, i'll be surprised if he doesnt leave in January and wouldnt blame him one bit.

I was thinking the same as ArnieM re: Parr. When fit I would have him ahead of either our current first choice fullbacks on defensive ability plus he offers something going forward. There has to be some issue with him in training or attitude that Mick doesn't quite fancy. Even still, it would be wreckless to let him leave mid-season.
I know nothing about Digby, but on the face of it it seems a strange loan signing for a side looking to push on for promotion to the Premiership. If it's cover at RB he's in for surely Josh Emmanuel has as much to offer right now?

Could be a useful low risk signing , he had a trial with Man U , so must have something , but strange he hasn't played many games .

Beginning to wonder what's happening with Bishop though ?

I assume this is a loan with a view to a permanent signing ?

This story made me laugh, I read it just after reading about Mick not expecting any signings in January. He does all his transfers under the radar with no fuss.

@hadleighboyblue

As of a couple of weeks ago, was told that Bishop was still 8 weeks away

Interesting signing. On the one hand MM says he wouldn't be able to improve on the squad he has, but then signs someone who doesn't get a game for Barnsley ... on loan. Very odd and no doubt inexpensive. That said, can't be worse than Coke.

Parr - good player, but unreliable with injuries. Unlikely to get a new deal due to poor injury record, so could be good all round. We would need to sign an experienced replacement as youngsters not ready yet.

He sounds a bit of a wildcard, loads of positives in there with even Man Utd looking at him recently, yet few starts for a club currently 19th in League One. If Mick's coaching staff and improve the youngster he could be well worth bringing in, so let's see how he does.

As for Parr, he has looked good whenever I have seen him so it would be really odd if he left to return to Norway. I would have thought he would join another Championship side if he got fed up of waiting for his chance here.

I did say Parr I was told was on his way out a few days ago. His face has never fitted which is a shame but he has had a lot of injuries to be fair which has not helped his cause. I like many others thought he should have been given more of a chance, especially this season when fit. Surprised we have signed a young player though, MM tends to go for experience over youth on the pitch.

I have always liked the look of Parr and enjoyed it when he has played, but as many state he appears injury prone. I also wonder about attitude difficulties. I remember that when he joined us from Palace he was not getting many games for them, even though at the time many Palace fans liked him.

According to a news item the other day both Bish and McG have Hamstring problems so that must have been Bish's setback

Another cheap signing who will not make many first team appearances this season I think,as he cant even get in a lower first div team regularly.

Does not make sense as we already have Yorwerth and Clarke out on loan who are both defenders.
