Oar Linked With China Move
Sunday, 24th Jan 2016 14:04

Exiting Town winger Tommy Oar could be set for a move to China, according to reports in Australia. The 24-year-old left the Blues on Friday having failed to settle since joining the club in August after leaving Dutch side FC Utrecht at the end of last season.

Oar’s departure from Town led to speculation that he could rejoin his former club the Brisbane Roar or another A-League side, while according to other reports a Chinese club is offering the Australian international a lucrative seven-figure deal.

The wideman’s Dutch agent Michael Jansen says his player is currently keeping his options open but played down a return to Australian domestic football.

"We are looking closer to home, but that does not mean that we rule out options in Europe or elsewhere in the world," Jansen told AAP.

"As for Australia, right after the news came out that he left Ipswich, there were a lot of clubs who made contact - and not only Australian clubs.

"Tommy just terminated his contract, so he does not want to rush anything. But at this point it's unlikely he will sign for an A-League team.”

Meanwhile, former Blue Nigel Reo-Coker, 31, has left MLS side the Montreal Impact after three years, his contract having been terminated by mutual consent.

Makes sense. Would be much closer to home (map of Chinese team's locations: https://imgur.com/gallery/1W770/), being very east coast based, closer to Aus. Also likely to be paid very well.

That is a bit closer to home... Sounds like he wanna play in Asia or somewhere close to Australia...

I wish Tommy Oar all the best... Now we need to replace him with another winger

Not ruling out Europe..........mmmmmm....sounds like a player not playing not happy and wanted out, hate the smokescreen of being unsettled?

He would be the best player in the Chinese League by far. Shame to see it didn't work out for him here. As for the other clubs in Europe, his grandparents are Spanish (from the Basque region), so a move to somewhere around there could make sense seeing as he has family there.

Not sure if (culturally) China is the place to go if you're an Aussie and feeling homesick, but at least he will be a bit closer to his homeland this way. The Chinese clubs are paying big money these days and he will more likely become a first team regular there. It makes sense for him in many ways. Still think there is more to his contract termination request than meets the eye, though.

Perhaps the 'lucrative seven figure deal' will help him settle more easily this time.

He saw Parr go and thought don't blame him as clearly I'm not in the managers plans either.

If that was the case @bossman good riddance to him don't want people who don't want to fight, have the desire to push the first team.

He will be playing in the same league as Wee Wonwunce and Howlon Since

If he is in that much demand, should have transfere listed him to get a fee rather than just let go...

jonbull... you can only stay and fight for your place if you have a chance . However MM s first eleven play, good or bad they are selected week in week out unless injury or suspension . Parr never let Town down when selected but was always dropped ?
Town were poor at Preston MM made no changes , it has been the same for many seasons

More to the point is we have lost two capable championship players from a squad that would already struggle over the whole season as we did from January last year what are we doing about it like all the other clubs around us ?

Plenty of the better Australian players go to China and the rest of Asia, but most of them come back after a short time. Not good enough or too bigger culture shock.

If you didn't want to honour your contract Tommy, at least be honest about your reason for wanting to leave.

Oh i see its the chinese side of his family he wants to be closer too..............Utter tosh, he knew no matter how well he played he wouldnt get a look in if Micks boys were fit. First Parr now Oar. His favouritism is now starting to cost us quality players.

its a bit strange, homesick Australian wants to move to China, it does look as though he felt he was wasting his time with Town , shame ,i had hoped to see him progress with ITFC.

And we are linked with ?? Oh yeah NOBODY coz we can't get better than we already have eh Mick ??? What a joke. Everyone around us is strengthening. We do nothing. Same as last January when we were 6 places better off. No ambition and conning the fans. We've had a terrible week, come on Marcus & Mick we need at least 3 signings to have any hope. A relatively small investment could bring a £100million return !!! DO IT !!!
