Douglas Triggers One-Year Extension to Town Contract
Friday, 8th Apr 2016 12:38

Midfielder Jonathan Douglas has triggered a 12-month extension to his contract with the Blues, having joined Town from tomorrow’s opponents Brentford on a free transfer last summer, when he signed a one-year deal with an option for a second season.

“I’m delighted to be staying and I still think I can play for another couple of years,” the 34-year-old former Ireland international told the club site.

“I have reached the number of games that triggers a new contract for me, so as far as I’m concerned I will be here next season.

"I’m really enjoying it here and want to carry on playing as long as possible.

“We face Brentford this weekend and hopefully we can get a win and push for the play-offs, as it’s still a possibility.

“We have to have belief that we can make it. We have to keep going, keep working hard and see where it takes us.

“We have a really good squad here and with Didz and Bish back, that has been made stronger.”

Douglas has made 31 starts and three sub appearances and has scored three goals for the Blues.

I thought it was April Fools day last Friday for jokes like this, not today?

Allows MM to pick the infamous midfield trio of Skuse, Hyam and Douglas again next season.

4 defenders, 3 water carriers and 3 strikers as a formation. Switching to 4 defenders, 2 water carriers and 4 strikers later on in the second half.

It's not just the hoof ball / keep the ball in the air style of play, it's the team formation that is so poor

Why was there even that clause in the contract. Hopefully he will play the role tabb has played this season but seems a waste of a wage. Time to bring on the hungry 'TALENTED' youngsters not keep hanging onto the Oldies looking for one last pay day.

I hate to be negative, but nothing that I've seen of him suggests that he has the right level of ability to help us progress.

Douglas, that is.

Should have been a 'one forward pass and another year on your contract" clause - we'd be fine then

Count Arthur
Tabb will most likely leave in the Summer.

Personally, I rate Douglas as I think he fits in well with our tactical plan. Skuse, Hyam and Douglas are all solid holding midfielders (cue the inevitable minuses). He nicks the odd goal here and there and seems to have a good attitude. I wish him all the best for his future time at ITFC.

Certainly not a first choice. We need 2 wide midfielders/wingers, 1 holding midfielder (Skuse or Hyam), 1 creative (Bishop or Bru). Douglas is OK purely as backup for Skuse or Hyam. It looks to me as though his legs have gone. The game was passing him by at times last Tuesday.

Should sign Douglas Bader as is most probably still more mobile and he had no legs and is also dead.

Get out Douglas you're just simply not good enough !! Yeah you've triggered that clause because Mick keeps f'ing plaving you!! Worst news yet!! If he keeps bishop out of the team there is something seriously and I mean seriously wrong with our football club.. It's bad enough he keeps bru and foley out!! Bet he is on the starting team sheet on Saturday too, and to say he is delighted as well!! Wtf well no one else is , losing patience fast now.

Glen Southam may be leaving Basingstoke on a free in the Summer. Looks our kind of player.

A couple of years past his best but no worse than Skuse.

Question?..if Mick is still here next season, does anyone reckon he'll buy a proper right back during the Summer or will he stubbornly continue with Chambers at RB?

I don't think that Skuse, Hyam or Douglas are good enough to be regulars. Definitely not Coke.

Hopefully McDonnell, Dozzell and Kundai Benyu will be able to provide more competition next season but unless MM is brave enough to play younger players than this won't happen. Bishop, if fit, should always be in the middle. And should be the first name on the team sheet along with McGoldrick.

Murphy will be another year older and the defence needs a sort-out. Varney isn't good enough.

There needs to a full-scale restructuring of the first team squad along with playing style
