Early in the summer it was reported that nine clubs were targeting him, including Premier League duo Hull City and Swansea, as well as SPL champions Celtic and Championship sides Aston Villa, Brighton, Derby, Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
The 22-year-old, who was on loan at Rotherham for a month during 2014/15, joined the Foxes from Manchester United for a reported £1 million on the final day of the 2014 summer transfer window after they had failed in their attempt to land Town’s David McGoldrick.
But the 5ft 9in tall forward has made just three league starts and one FA Cup sub appearance for the Premier League champions since then and and has not featured this season.
Wrexham-born Lawrence, who is contracted to the Foxes until June 2018, spent spells out on loan at Carlisle and Yeovil while a Manchester United player.
Lawrence, who missed Euro 2016 due to an ankle injury, has been capped four times by Wales, in addition to appearances at U17, U19 and U21 levels, and is in the squad for their opening World Cup qualifier against Moldova on Monday 5th September in Cardiff.
The signing of Lawrence is almost certainly won't be Town's final addition before the transfer window closes at 11pm tomorrow.
Manager Mick McCarthy is understood to be looking for a direct replacement for Daryl Murphy, who joined Newcastle over the weekend, with Burnley's Lukas Jutkiewicz understood to be on his list of targets, while the Town boss is keen to augment other areas of his squad with no emergency loans available this season. Clarets winger Michael Kightly also remains a target.

Can't say I know who he is, to be honest, but if he's going to be wearing our blue shirt, I'll be getting right behind the lad, and hope it works out well for us and him. As for those moaning about another loan, we haven't actually got loads of loan players at the moment... and we've still got the money from Murphy's sale to add a goalscorer with (as I doubt either Lawrence or Best are being seen as replacements for Murphy). Welcome Tom and all the best whilst you're with us at Town.
On loan at Blackburn and Cardiff last year. They didn't want him back.
Appreciate we can't spend millions but these sorts of players won't attract better players to the club even if we could pay the money.
Prefer to use Youngters if loans are all we can afford. Give this guy some game time and then he will go back to his club or sign for someone else who is willing to pay for money. Same old story.
Should be a good signing as long as we still sign a replacement for Murph. Heard this guy can play up top or left wing so hopefully we are still in for a Striker, preferably permanent. Suspect the reaction to this signing would be very different if a replacement for Murphy had already been announced. as it may be in the next 24 hours. Not personally convinced we will be in for another striker having signed Best and Lawrence but we will see. Expecting at least 1 or 2 new faces in based on this mornings comments of up to 3 signings.
Good signing, with no emergency loan window this season this is a handy signing that will add competition for places. Hopefully a couple more coming through the door as well!
Young, looks like he has some skills and a bit of pace about him...what more do we want? Sure he's on loan, but for a season so does it really matter? I'd rather we loaned him than take a risk on spending £1m+...
I read this as we WON'T be signing a direct replacement for Murphy and very much WILL be sticking with the 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 formation.
It was plain as day second half at Brentford especially at them ruining us / compared with us competing with Wolves / Norwich we're better suited to this as opposed to 4-4-2.
Ward has made the right forward slot his own, which leaves wide left and FC.
Varney / Sears / Pitman / Grant / Lawrence / Best will surely be battling for the other 2.
not what I was hoping for, but MM really does have his hands tied at the moment in terms of transfer budget which we can't blame him for. Hopefully should indicate a different approach to playing style as well with another younger player who's had a good footballing education
Cardiff and Blackburn didn't want him according to who? Ridiculous comment. Allegedly was wanted by Swansea and Hull. So does now make him a great signing? Let's give the lad a chance and judge him and every signing on their performances for us, not performances at previous clubs. Good luck Tom.
Just looked up his record on-line the last 2 seasons on loan- Cardiff 16 games 0 goals Blackburn 21 games 2 goals Hope he does a Murphy who did not get many goals until he came to Ipswich.....GOOD LUCK Tom
