Dozzell Switched to England U19s Squad for Euros
Monday, 22nd May 2017 09:24

Town midfielder Andre Dozzell has been withdrawn from the England U20s squad playing at the Toulon Tournament and has instead been called into the U19s party travelling to Georgia for July’s European Championships.

The Young Lions will take on Bulgaria in their opening group game on Monday 3rd July, Holland on Thursday 6th July and Germany on Sunday 9th July with all the matches taking place in Tbilisi. The final game will be shown live by Eurosport.

Dozzell, who signed a new contract running to the summer of 2020 when he turned 18 earlier this month, is yet to win an U19 cap.

The former Copleston High School pupil won nine caps with the England U18s during 2016/17, having been a regular and occasional captain of the U17s a year earlier.

The call-up will mean Dozzell will miss the start of pre-season training with the Blues with the squad due back at Playford Road on June 26th.

Town midfielder Tristan Nydam and striker Ben Morris, both 17, are on standby for the U20s ahead of the Toulon Tournament.

Fantastic news - well done Andre.

Toulon torunament, is for the leftovers really - the Euro tournaments are the big ones of the summer

Which is he likely to get more game time in? Good experience for him whichever one he's in, but I'm not sure which would've been more prestigious (or more exposure to vultures?).

Important summer for the club, and also for the likes of Andre - to be ready from the off next season. As I've said before - would be beneficial for him to have a Dalian Atkinsonesque transformation over the summer. I still remember how he reappeared as a powerhouse, and what a player emerged then. Sadly sold too soon though.

Hoppy - Andre is not going to turn into Dalian Atkinson, that is impossible!!

Well done Andre.

Just hope the Prem teams don't come sniffing round after this. He obviously has so much potential.

Really looking forward to him getting a lot more game time next season. Hopefully he will bulk up a bit during the summer and be raring to go.

Go get 'em Andre. Was a big fan of your dad when he played for us before he went to Spurs.
Andre looks a bit on the skinny side, he probably needs to fill out some as it might make him a bit lightweight on the pitch (especially in this league) but the physical side should all come good with time hopefully. I know he's never going to be a monster as that's not his game, but he does prob need to build the muscles a bit and that should take him to the next level.
