Wolves Eyeing Knudsen Move
Saturday, 1st Jul 2017 14:37

TWTD understands Wolves are weighing up a move for Town’s Danish international left-back Jonas Knudsen.

The 24-year-old joined the Blues from his hometown club Esbjerg fB in the summer of 2015 for a fee of around £350,000 and since then has been a regular in the side.

However, Myles Kenlock, 20, began to push him for his place during the second half of last season and the academy product will be looking to establish himself as Mick McCarthy’s first-choice left full-back during the season ahead.

Capped twice at full level by Denmark, Knudsen, who also operated on the left of a back three during 2016/17, has a year left on his contract, with Town having an option to keep him for a further season.

Speaking at the first day of pre-season training on Monday, ahead of the signings of midfielders Emyr Huws and Tom Adeyemi, Blues boss McCarthy said players would have to leave prior to too many more coming in.

“We’re going to have to lose some before we go around signing too many others,” he said.

In May TWTD reported that striker Brett Pitman and midfielder Kevin Bru have been told they can leave if they find themselves new clubs.

Would be happy with this Kenlock is our best left back the only thing we would need is to get more cover if he left. Only good thing Knudsen can do is score against he scum!

I personally would like to see him stay as he showed he is a capable CB and all you crying out for another CB we have Knudsen who can play there and save us the money. He is also a decent LB at this level and would provide pressure on Kenlock forcing both of them to up their game and further improving. For these reasons I would like to see Jonas stay, plus he scores against Norwich for fun! ;)

Don't rate Knudsen but 12th Man is right, need some sort of buy back clause in place for the Norwich games!

If we could get double what we bought him for (unlikely but Wolves are mugs), I'd sell.

Other clubs hold onto players until they have a replacement. We don't. Look at Murphy. Knudson is good cover at LB, LWB and LCB. If we get a replacement in then fine. If not, jog on Wolves.

This is one of hundreds of names being banded around in the media. We have rebuilt our back line already and another left back is virtually signed up ( Charles, Scotland full back) and we have paid £1 m for him. We are also in the process of signing Neves for around £20m so it would be pea nuts to pay for Knudsen IF IT WAS TRUE. I see Ipswich are 5th favourites for relegation this season. Possibly Micks last one there. I like Mick but he will either leave or be sacked. At least if you go down we wont have to pay your high ticket prices.

We should keep him just for the 2 Norwich games next season as he's got a 100% scoring record against them! :-)

He's still young, esp for a Defender. I think he'll turn into a good solid defender, showed real potential I'm the left of a back 3 and still developing.

Unless silly money comes in I'd keep him and let him.fight for his place.

Plus he's got to play against scum.

Don't understand why he isn't well liked here? Yes, I'd rather Kenlock as he has bags of potential and is one of our own, but Jonas has started getting better and adapting to English football. I definitely would keep him as back as, and like others have said, he isn't a bas centre half too. He plays for the shirt, so I think it would be a big loss.

Wolves have money, so if they offer a substantial bid however, I'd take it and reinvest. Doubt Mick will let him move on too!

As long as we make a good profit then it's fine by me.Kenlock is a much better defender, but will need cover from somewhere though.

howdonblue - agree, any negative comments or humour on here nowadays are as welcome as a pork chop in a mosque! There's a wave of optimism sweeping the site, bide your time mate, normal service will soon be resumed, trust me on that one.

We can but hope : I'd be surprised if we got any money for him as he's not much cop, but bearing in mind we got £8m for Mings who is equally as inept, and even got some money for Cresswell who is not much better, then stranger things have happened. Basically if any other club offers us any money at all for just about any of the useless tools in our squad, we should bite their hands off.

Keep him, he still young enough to improve. Kenlock to be fair played well in patches and is the heir long term, but he can't play a whole season, proved that as he ran out of stream at the end!

I wouldn't be overly sorry to see him go.

He's OK as back up but he's just not good enough to be first choice. There was a time I thought he might just make it but he went backwards again. If Wolves or anyone else are dumb enough to put up some decent cash then personally I would drive him there myself!

I'd like him to stay as others have stated he would be good cover and push for a starting place BUT if it's a choice of keeping him and losing say Bart I'd wave goodbye.
