Emmanuel's Rotherham Loan Confirmed
Thursday, 13th Jul 2017 13:10

Right-back Josh Emmanuel’s season-long loan to League One Rotherham United has been confirmed. A fortnight ago TWTD revealed that the Millers were keen to sign Emmanuel and Kieffer Moore on loan, the former Forest Green Rovers striker’s switch having been confirmed on Monday.

Emmanuel is now expected to join up with Moore and the rest of the Rotherham squad in Austria.

“He’s someone I spoke to Mick [McCarthy] about at the end of last season,” Millers boss Paul Warne told the Sheffield Star.

“I really like him. He’s the type that I want. He’s powerful and athletic. He’s at the right age. I’ve spoken to the player numerous times. He wants to come.”

Speaking on Saturday, Town manager McCarthy said Emmanuel and Moore's spells at the New York Stadium are in order to give them first-team football, which they wouldn’t get at Town.

“They both need to play games and I don’t want Josh here as a substitute coming on and playing a bit part," the Blues boss said. "He needs to go and play to improve, as does Kieffer.

“Neither of them will start in front of Jordan Spence or whoever else is starting up front. I think it’s really important that they get football.

“You benefit from getting week in, week out football. I remember it myself when you start and you play. Thankfully I got in the team and I was in every week and it just improves you every week.”

He added: “[Josh is] going until the January window and we’ll see how he does. Hopefully he’s ripping it up and we want to have him back. The only way he’s going to get better is by playing.

“They’re season-long loans but there’s a break clause in them. You’ve got to put that in because if you don’t then they get stuck there if they’re not playing or if they’re ripping it up and I want them back.

“Why would I even think about not having something to bring them back. But I’ll only bring them back if I want to play them.”

Academy product Emmanuel, 19, has made 19 starts and five sub appearances for the Blues without scoring.

The one-time West Ham schoolboy, who is contracted to Town until the summer of 2019 with the club having an option for a further season, spent a brief spell on loan at Crawley during 2015/16 making one start and playing one game from the bench.

Good luck Josh just hope Spence don't get injured as can't cope with Chambers at RB

This is not good, I have nothing against Spence and I'm actually glad we've signed him. However I do think Josh should be our 1st choice right back(think he's better then Kenlock - who I also rate) and just hope there is a quick 24 hour recall in the deal. Chambers at right back again. Agggghhhhhh

Really hope this isn't a loan to then push the player away. Rotherham will be a food club for Josh, as there is so much potential there in the lad. Nice to hear Warne saying he isn't coming to be a sub too. Smash it there Josh and come back and smash it here!

Shame I do not get it... A good quality up and coming player with a great attitude to football and his community responsibilities.

Not a "proper bloke" then Mick? Spence better be very good.....Or with Chambo at RB it shows where MM mind set is....!!! read the comments here for reference.

Makes sense all round. Good experience for Josh, that will benefit us when he comes back, that he wouldn't get just sitting on our bench.

Says "break clause", what is that and when is that? Different to call back surely?

“Neither of them will start in front of Jordan Spence or whoever else is starting up front."

I personally don't think a manager should be so catagoric in making this type of statement, as he has done on numerious occasions in the past.

All first choice players should know there is always someone close to taking their place, at least temporarily, if form drops off as it does with all players from time to time. I'm not saying any of our players suffer from complacency, but I don't think they and the world should be told they will always start in games.

Apart from anything else, if Spence is injured and Chambers is moved to right-back that leaves us short at centre-back. We desperately need a new Berra.

Knudsen seemed a better centre back than left back when he played there in a back 3, could be 4th choice centre back if needed. Emmanuel loan deal makes complete sense.

It may be good experience for Emmanuel, but I hoped he would stay to compete with Spence who I did not think was a nailed-on first teamer. A few months ago we opted not to sign Spence after a trial.

We really are getting light on numbers now. Comparing the numbers in and out from who was here at the end of January regardless of contract or loan we have... OUT: Berra, Digby, Emmanuel, Diagouraga, Douglas, Coke, Williams, Lawrence, Best, Samuel, Moore = 11, and 12 if Pitman goes. IN: Adeyemi, Celina, Garner = 3.

To me if he goes and has a season in Lg1 he comes back next year as real competion. So long as he plays for them I can't see how this doesn't benift all parties

SUMS THE DEPTH THIS CLUB has sunk to. When we were great young talent was nurtured and brought on, Now shift them out and get a nobody in.

....... yet another McCathy malfunction - his thinking will immediately be to slot Chambers into the RB position should the need arise.

Live in cloud cuckoo land people, if it suits you - but you would be best advised that this man will NEVER change, his focus will NEVER be to naturally give the youngsters a sound chance - so called 'real blokes' will always be his thinking, and focus.

That's why our Club will not be successful under this Manager - therefore stop be deluded all you fools who think this is a good move.

Best of Luck Josh - but you should have been here - challenging for that position.

..... yes, I know I missed the 'r' out of McCarthy - but this man continues to infuriate me, to the point of not wanting to see his name in print anywhere.;

........ once the heavy ground scenario arrives I can see us being painfully short in numbers - but hey - MM will already have a ready made excuse for bringing in more waste of space players, or throwing youngsters into the fray, and expect miracles from them without any experience.

Waste of space Manager - on all fronts.

No real issue with youngsters getting game time, but won't be overly supportive if we then bring in loans of other teams players. No point. Squad is very weak and signing loaneres is short sighted and pointless.

Excellent post Mark. The club will spin the 'we have signed five new ones' line. Completely ignoring Hughes and Spence were will us last season.
