Warne: Town Weighing Up Improved Rotherham Offer for Moore
Tuesday, 2nd Jan 2018 17:15

Rotherham boss Paul Warne has revealed his club has made an improved bid for Blues striker Kieffer Moore, who he says wants to return to the Millers. The 25-year-old scored 13 goals in a hugely successful loan spell at the New York Stadium prior to the turn of the year before being recalled by Town.

Warne is aware that other League One clubs are also interested in Moore with Charlton, Scunthorpe and Bradford previously mentioned as potential suitors, while Peterborough and Wigan have now been linked. There are also Championship clubs among those who have been keeping tabs on the striker, who joined the Blues for £20,000 from Forest Green Rovers last January.

“I know there are three other clubs in for him in our league,” Warne told the Sheffield Star. “It’s not just us who know about him. He is scoring all the goals, so everyone knows him.

“We have got competition. Kieffer wants to come back. I texted him on Sunday and sent him his five best things he has done at the club. I am well aware of what an effect he had at the club, so if we can get him back we will.”

He added: “We have got a much-improved bid in. I am led to believe it is one of the best. Ipswich will come back to us.

“In the ideal world, if I am not going to get Kieffer I would like to know now, but I have got a funny feeling it will drag on for a few weeks.

“There is room for negotiation. But we will go to what the value is and what we can spend. If someone comes in with crazy money, then we are not going to compete.

“If someone offers crazy money, they will back that up with crazy wages and I am not going to have a player on double what the next best is on. I will not have that at this club.”

Warne says he is speaking with Town boss Mick McCarthy on a regular basis: “I am speaking to Mick every other day. Fans can rest easy that we are trying our best. If that isn’t good enough, then so be it.”

Moore, who is contracted to the Blues until the end of the season with Town having an option to keep him for a further year, is not expected to feature at Fulham this evening.

If the 6ft 5in tall frontman does play for Town he won’t be able to play for anyone else other than Rotherham this season due to FIFA’s three-club rule, which restricts players to appearing for only two teams over the course of a season.

Therefore, so as not to reduce the interested parties, it’s highly unlikely that Moore will add to his 11 sub appearances for the Blues unless McCarthy decides not to sell him.

Reminds me of when we poorly and very publically chased players like Chopra. "There is room for negotiation" publically states they are willing to pay more than their current offer.

Just what I was thinking. Conduct this sort of thing behind closed doors, not in public.

In all honesty, we paid £20k for the lad. Warne said it is a club record bid, so that must be over £600k. Moore has played a few games for us, so it's not a bad return on investment, but... will the money be used to strengthen the team, or go into Evans' pocket?

However, I'd like to give the guy a chance and see what he can do in the squad!

Reminds me of the Jewell days when he was after that guy Steve Davies, the striker. Often made his targets known and then the selling club bumped up the price. That's what we should do. Either we say 750k to 1 million for running ya mouth, or sell to another club. Distasteful way of doing business in my eyes

All is doing is talking the price up.... in this insatnce since I'm totally agnostic in whether he stays or goes good because if does go I want as much dosh as possible for him

900k to a million then they can have him. Please don't forget the club is massively in debt and getting worse. As for Mick he maybe the best option we have on what we can get on the wages his on. Don't be surprised if Bart goes for around 5-6 million. Gerken in all fairness definitely not the worst keeper in the league. Can see Rowe going at the end of the season permanently. Let Hyam and bishop go aswell. They cost money with nothing in return, albeit probably not on massive salaries. We have several young talents in Dozzell and Tristan Nydam and McDonnell to name just a couple. I do appreciate that 2 of the 3 are injured at present. Overall we have to put up with the management whilst our financial situation is as it is. Even if Evans wants to sell up, who would to buy the club with the current debt. In all fairness to Evans his money has helped with the promise of what appears to be a decent batch of young players.

Division 1 player at best, sell him, what's the big deal? My issues sit with the bigger picture in regards to how our club has stagnated since our very own 'messiah' saved our club! What a ruddy joke!

At the end of the day Warne should keep quiet, Moore is our player and he could well be staying, in which case its not fair of Warne to be broadcasting what may have been a private conversation between the 2 and not for public consumption! out of respect for all parties concerned he should keep quiet!

It may not be the best offer that ITFC & KM agree to accept.Nor should it be.Without Rotherham,KM was worth £20K so i hope a degree of fairness is seen.Rotherham turned a squad player into a regular first team goal scorer.£600k should allow MM to buy a midfield player with MM's ability of finding talent on the cheap.Hopefully without needing lastminute.com on the last day of the window!

Surly theres rules about texting contracted players, trying to tempt them?
Also, how could a L1 club afford 600k+ on a single player??

Mr blueboy. All that we appreciate your views. Is there any justifiable evidence to show that mr Evans is making the club unbuyable or using the club to wipe away any form of taxes.
He has a club that even when he took it on was massively in debt and throw a bucket load of money at previous manager which if the truth be told made most fans happy. Fingers burnt and all and possibly trying a different strategy.
