Boro Linked With Knudsen
Sunday, 5th Aug 2018 13:06

Middlesbrough are reported to be eyeing a move for Blues left-back Jonas Knudsen in addition to striker Martyn Waghorn, whose exit to Teesside is expected to be confirmed in the next couple of days.

According to the Sunday People, Boro are also keen on Knudsen with the duo claimed to be valued at a total of £10 million.

Danish international Knudsen, 25, has also been linked with Stoke City but speaking after yesterday’s match against Blackburn, manager Paul Hurst played down the chances of that move occurring.

“What I would say is to my knowledge that’s not going to be happening,” he said.

“Every time I’ve watched Jonas in the past and speaking to people about him and seeing him first-hand now, he’s a fully committed player and I certainly didn’t see anything in his performance today that would suggest he’s got something else on his mind.”

Knudsen looked much better yesterday, and could be a very key player for us this season. But £10mil for these two is almost impossible to turn down.

As disappointing as it would be to lose the two of them, £10m is quite a good sum and, by the looks of recent weeks, would be reinvested into the club. With the additions we're currently linked with and perhaps another striker we could be in good shape. But need to get the new players in soon.

I dare say it'll come down to if we were going to offer him a new contract, and based on the Waghorn deal even if we did we wouldn't be able to match the wages Boro would offer him.

Maybe my imagination, but I thought Jonas seemed to lack pace yesterday and was caught out of position at times. I'm no football expert though. Tayo Edun looked very quick & sharp by comparison. Wonder if he will be our new left back? Going to be an interesting few days.

Thought Knudsen had a good game yesterday, wouldn't like to see him go, has never let us down as Centre back, flexible player at the back, certainly worth £2-£3 million.

ME must be rubbing his hands in glee, 10m in and a manager who'll probably replace with 5 players which will cost 4 - 5m.
We simply cannot keep selling great and good quality championship players with lower league ones.
Yes I'm all for SOME lower league players coming in, we were at game yesterday so saw how great Edwards was and I want us to sign Tilt, but we have to have a balanced mix, so need to sign some good quality championship players who can come straight into TEAM and improve us. Even if we have to spend 1/2 decent fees to get them.

Knudsen is very underrated by us fans. Yes, he sometimes under performs, but he is a solid player and always gives his all. Another year in an Ipswich shirt will see him improve even more. Kenlock won't be able to play more than 30 a season, in my opinion, unless £3M+ comes in!

If the money is £3-4 million of course we'd take it. That £1 million bid from Stoke was a waste of time. I'd happily play Kenlock there, even if I do love having a Dane in our team. Amazing what a bit of World Cup Coverage does for a player. If I remember at Middlesboro they have about the same distance between pitch and fans as we do.

Just sell all our players who have good Championship experience and see where that gets us. The fast road to league 1 of course. PH and ME simply have to get recruitment bang on if these two do go or that's where we will end up.

Makes me laugh how much these clubs spend. Constantly trying to buy promotion. Coach your players Pulis don't just buy

I reckon they will bid about £1m and we will accept it.

From the highlights our no2 looked pretty dodgy yesterday..

Slightly surprised with this potential link. No doubt that JK has improved steadily since MM brought him in - although arguably more effective as a CB - but do not see him as a top quality prospect. Possible, therefore, that M'boro see him as cover, as opposed to first choice starter.

But, entering final year of contract, a deal to be done, providing the money's right - a combined of around £10M for Waggy and JK is just too good to refuse. Would imagine the club has quietly let it be known that JK would be available, for the right money.

However, it's one thing having a sizeable bag of gold to bring in those young, hungry, players PH's believes suit both his footballing ethos, and are keen to prove themselves at a higher level, it's a real challenge to turn them into an effective team, able to compete and win games in what is a brutally tough league. Yesterday's encounter with a well-drilled, battle-hardened, team provided a glimpse of what's to come. Whilst really wanting this exciting, fresh, approach to succeed, and remaining optimistic that PH and CD can make it happen, the risks and challenges of achieving root and branch changes, whilst simulateneously picking up points in the relentless grind of the C'ship shouldn't be underestimated. So patience should therefore be Agenda Item 1.

Don't sell the mad man Knudsen......he is still young. Would turn into a great defender LB & CB in the coming years. We need cover for these positions anyway. How many players can score against narwich?

I don't understand these fans not rating Knutsen, he's was one a few players to actually put in a solid performance week in, week out. But after a game in the World Cup, he's suddenly highly rated.

He's miles above Kenlock, and take a look at the difference in their approach and attitude. If he goes, we would need a replacement.

For those who think Edun is the replacement, he'd defently not a full back.

Can we afford to lose any more players? I'm not so sure - particularly those with Championship experience.

@positvelyportman do you just downmark people if they dare to say anything that looks to be mildly negative, I notice me and rfretwell got one.Tell me, if a manager signs the best 20 players right now from divisions 1 & 2 does anybody in their right mind think it would finish in the top half, not a chance. I would say read herfies post(which is spot on by the way) but you'd just downmark him.
All I want is better quality players signed by us, I can't believe anyone on here doesn't, and we have the money to do so right now, if that gets me downmark then so be it.

We don't actually know whether Knudsen is Hursts cup of tea. If he is not offered a new contract then his value will have diminished by the next transfer window and he could end up just seeing out his contract and us getting nothing. I really like Jonas but is he the kind of player Hurst wants i.e. long throw and long ball artist - I think not. Unless Hurst comes out and states he wants to keep him then I think the Club should let him go now and at least get some money for him.

JK is underrated . He is a tough little competitor and I think we need a bit of that in the team . The youngsters will take time to toughen up in what is going to be a competitive league .

If JK goes we have to be asking £2m + if Accrington are asking £2.5 m for Jackson

We certainly need some experienced and competitive players in the team to help the good bunch of younger players we have .

Skuse looked way off the pace yesterday

Hold your breath !! PH was clever in totally denying any Stoke move , but carefully avoided ,it seems , elaborating on other possibilities.A joint transaction for W and K to Boro wouldn't be too surprising : we rate JK ,think he's improved greatly with us , and wonder if there are many , if any ,better left backs in the Championship? Over the last few years we do seem to have grown a few ,and sold a few (Mings and Cresswell ) SO what is the likely outcome ?
I do believe MR H is playing cards close to the chest, and despite the ' business ' side of football would be sad to lose this player ,but money talks and a larger salary must be tempting ( specially as he now has another mouth to feed !!)
Tenterhooks !?

I'm not a ME fan BUT some of these comments make me laugh!!! "£10 mill in and we'll only spend/see £5 mill of that" "money for Webster + Knights to City + world cup payments and we haven't spent it" Seriously get a grip. ME maybe a multi multi multi millionaire but he keeps OUR club afloat by ploughing in millions each year. Like I stated earlier I'm not a ME fan BUT cut him some slack and be realistic. Easy to criticize when it ain't your money. At least he's reinvesting some of those funds this season. Hate the phrase BUT "we're a work in progress".

Hmmmm....valuation is 10m...think we would probably get 7-8m for both with added clauses, given that Knudsen is only going to be £1m of that money we are better off keeping a vesitile defender as it's probable we are getting at least 1 other defender before the window shuts and defence does need depth - it's not like we 'need ' the extra money from knusden as such to get the 4 targets still being talked about

sounds like a decent deal to me if correct. Good for Boro, good for us
