Town Targeting Walters Loan Return
Wednesday, 29th Aug 2018 15:24

TWTD understands Town are targeting the return of former skipper Jon Walters on loan from Burnley.

We understand discussions regarding the move are ongoing with the deal expected to be completed ahead of Friday's loan deadline.

The 34-year-old has been largely out of the first-team picture at Turf Moor since joining them from Stoke City last summer and has been made available for loan.

Republic of Ireland international Walters joined the Blues from Chester City in January 2007 and made 132 starts and 14 sub appearances, scoring 31 goals before moving on to Stoke for £2.75 million in August 2010 after falling out with then-manager Roy Keane.

Manager Paul Hurst has been looking for another striker ahead of the deadline at 5pm on Friday and confirmed at his press conference that he had made an enquiry regarding Derby’s former Norwich striker Cameron Jerome.

“He was one that we enquired about, certainly,” Hurst confirmed with Jerome, who is set to join Goztepe in Turkey, reportedly not interested in a move to the Blues due to his Canaries connections.

Asked what type of striker he is after, the Blues manager added: “We’re looking at someone who has got a physical presence, certainly. And if possible the experience alongside that.

“But at the same time, what you want in an ideal world and what you can actually get don’t always come together, so we’ll see if we can make a deal like that happen.”

Quality, top experience in the PL, something he can pass down to the younger lads. Great signing if we get him.

A yes from me, the experience that he could show would undoubtedly rub off on our newboys.
Perhaps he could provide a calming hand and influence to settle the team, but it's only a stop gap, I haven't heard much about him since he left Stoke, has he still got it in his legs at 34?

I am sure he may think there is some unfinished business at Portman Road. Please make it happen

Yes please! Knows the club, would deffo be useful at this level, his age doesn't matter as he would be gone at the end of the season! This a loan that could really work out, let's get it done!

Not sure how to feel about this. He was brilliant 10 years ago but that was 10 years ago. I do feel like he'd add some much needed experience and leadership to help guide our young squad though and gives us a plan B option. as well as helping defend set pieces with his aerial ability.

Short term solution but would be happy with this to be honest. We should never have let both waghorn and garner leave at the same time! Wr are crying out for some know how in this squad And Walters could do a job for us.

Be useful around the training ground and on match days for his experience , does not have to be a starter or 90 mins .
Good be a very good addition

Significantly more positives than negatives. If he's keen to return, then let's make it happen. Would be a great short-ish term addition, providing vital experience, leadership and quality to the squad.
