Batth Time for Town?
Thursday, 30th Aug 2018 21:56

Wolves centre-half Danny Batth is reported to be a Blues target ahead of tomorrow’s 5pm loan deadline.

According to the Daily Mail, Town boss Paul Hurst is hopeful of adding Batth, 27, to his squad ahead of Friday's cut-off.

Another central defender is the Blues’ remaining target having secured the additions of winger Jordan Graham - also from Wolves - and forward Jon Walters from Burnley in the last few days.

Town are looking at a number of options including former skipper Gareth McAuley, who is a free agent, and AFC Wimbledon’s Deji Oshilaja, while we understand ex-West Ham man James Collins has also been considered, although it’s believed the 35-year-old Welshman is set for a return to the Hammers.

Brierley Hill-born Batth, who is 6ft 3in tall, came through the ranks at Wolves during former Blues boss Mick McCarthy’s spell as manager and spent time on loan at Colchester, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday - and was also linked with Town - before establishing himself in the Wolves first team under Kenny Jackett.

Although still the club captain at Molineux where he is contracted until the summer of 2020, Batth is yet to make an appearance this season and is expected to make a move out on loan. He has also been linked with Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday.

He'd be a wonderful addition, but look at the competition in Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday. I'm not getting my hopes up unfortunately.

At the end of the day of we are going to pay the same wages as other clubs there is no reason why he wouldn't want to come here considering he could walk straight into the team.

Just scanned Twitter. Lots of Leeds fans keen on him.

Would be a real coup if we pulled this off, but unless he's best mates with Jordan Graham I can't see it happening.

I've been hoping this would happen when it was mentioned that he could go out on loan, great CB with plenty of Championship experience. Let's get this loan done! COYB

This would be a good signing, nice to see a bit of ambition from a club accused of throwing the baby out with the Batth water.

I would feel a lot more confident in our chances if we could sign Batth, an experienced defender who could organise us at the back and stop the sloppy goals. 10 years younger than McAuley, so would be a clear first choice defender.

Would certainly plug a hole in the centre of defence.

This would be almost as good as getting Walters back. Again Danny could be a great asset himself and very valuable in terms of advice and organisation of others and he is also a great age. Hope that this is a loan with a view to purchase in January. Things are suddenly looking up and a nice balance between youth and experience is starting to emerge.......

Would be great addition. Looks like Hurst finally understood, you can't survive Championship season without plenty of experience. League one and two guys only isn't enough.

Looks like we'll be overflowing with Wolves players!

Fine by me, perhaps we can start to clean up!

wonder what would have been said if MM was still here !!!!!!!!! picking his old mates.
Good defender and if all goes well one to try and sign, need this sort of player to start to push us up that table.

Fingers crossed we get him.

Here is a more controversial headline.....

"It would be a Batth party"

Uptick for those who get it.
