Chambers Signs New Deal
Friday, 15th Mar 2019 20:42

Town skipper Luke Chambers has signed a new two-year deal with the Blues. The 33-year-old’s current contract was due to end in the summer, although Town had an option for a further season.

“Obviously I’m delighted to be a part of the club’s future for another two years,” said Chambers, who has made 313 starts and one sub appearance, scoring 15 goals, since joining Town in the summer of 2012 after leaving tomorrow's opponents Nottingham Forest.

“I’ve made no secret of the fact that as long as I can play, I want to be here - and maybe beyond that as well.

“I have spoken to [owner] Marcus [Evans] regularly over the last month or so and the manager has shown his support for me and it’s good to get things sorted, for my family as well.

“I’m 33 but to me that is just a number. I feel as fit as I have ever done. I want to play every game here over the next two years. I want to play beyond that.

“I’ve got close on 700 appearances in my career and I want to get to 800 and more. Nothing will drive me on more than to play my part in making a success of this team over the next two years.

“I’m proud to play for this club. I’m proud to be skipper. The club has been a massive part of my career and I want to leave here and people can look back and say, ‘Yeah, he was a good guy to have here’.”

No please Luke, leave Town when we still love you. Go to the U.S. and make some money in stead. You have been a great and lojal skipper, many thanks. But it's time to say goodbye.

Nice one Luke.

Yeah he does make the odd error but so does every defender.

We'll need players with his attitude next season.

Fantastic news! Well done Chambers! Great leader and role model for the academy players. :)

I love Chambo but I personally don't think he's been good enough at this level for a couple of seasons now. However I'm sure he'll be good enough for League One next year. His leadership skills and experience will be vital to us hitting the ground running next season.

I am fed up of Ipswich fans slating chambers. He is a loyal servant to the club and is one of the few players who actually care. He makes mistakes yes but can anyone name one player who hasn't this season?

More importantly his experinace could be massive in getting us out of league 1 I personally want to see him stay at the club for a really long time.

Well done chambo! Think of all them fist pumps next year.

He might be loyal and have the gift of the gab, but he's cr@p on the pitch!!!!!!

Terrible for the club. Was thinking of getting a season ticket next season, but the prospect of having to watch undropable Chambers and Skuse for another year has completely put me off. We have 6 years of evidence that he's not a very good player and is probably over bearing both on the pitch and off it. This is a Bad decision Town and will hold us back.

Hoof it, usually to the opposition!

Too slow. Will just drag the young players down, and any mistake he makes he will blame them, as he has done all this season.

Another Marcus blunder, will certainly affect season ticket sales.

Within a football club everybody brings something different .. Chambers is a fantastic leader and not a bad defender.. He always leads from the front.. never sherks his responsibility and is a top boy..

If he was the stand out defender you all want him to be, do you think he would be playing for us...
we are what we are.. he is what he is..

Not convinced about this. The team don't seem to be showing a desire to win and a fighting spirit they seem too happy to accept a point. Surely the skipper should be driving the team onto victory

Mixed reaction as expected but for me this is great news. We do not have as strong a leader with character to match as he has.

Give me strength! The club lurches from one bad decision to another! Useless clueless owner and everything else over the last ten years cement that statement! After reading most of the comments in regards to the ‘two buddies' I've sadly concluded these supporters really don't deserve anything better than what's been happening to this club over the last decade!

.......... well that's not going to please some of you is it ... ??

Doesn't mean he will play every game though - common sense should prevail with everyone, in doing so, MOST will realise that he is past his best.

Will be some over reaction from his super critics - I personally don't read too much into this, as what you see on the pitch now, and going forward is there for all to see.
Therefore - simply his game HAS to improve - or else.

OMG!! This means we'll be playing non-league football in two years time!!
Chambers "I've made no secret of the fact that as long as I can play, I want to be here - and maybe beyond that as well". BUT YOU CAN'T PLAY! Go and play in China or the US.

I've always supported Marcus but I can't after this. ME is determined to RUIN our club.

Looks like we are in the ‘beyond' phase then!

........ if you are that fit Chambo' - you need to be somewhat more mobile than what you have been this season.

I'm not a critic of Chambo' - BUT his game has gone, and I personally can't see it getting any better.

Time, and performance will tell the story going forward, as to if this was the right decision by the Club.

I care about my club...does that mean I should be playing every game!?
