Hull Linked With Blues Winger Edwards
Thursday, 9th May 2019 14:55

Hull City are reported to be keen on adding Blues winger Gwion Edwards to their squad this summer.

According to HITC Sport, the Tigers are among a number of Championship clubs to have been alerted by the Welshman’s performances for Town since his move from Peterborough last summer for a fee understood to be in the region of £700,000.

Edwards, 26, made 25 starts and nine sub appearances, scoring six goals, in what was an up and down first season in the Championship hampered by injuries during spells.

The former Swansea trainee, who has been called up by Wales on a number of occasions but without winning a cap so far, is contracted until the summer of 2020 with the club having an option for a further season.

While Town, who are facing a £9 million drop in revenue in League One, may well consider interest in their players should it come over the summer, manager Paul Lambert insisted last week that no one would be allowed to leave for a cut-price fee.

“People have got to want your players,” he said when asked if players might have to be sold to fund new additions. “If you think people are going to go out of here on the cheap, no chance, no chance.

“I won’t allow it to happen and whoever comes in has to be better than the ones that go, that’s key.”

I'm not sure about this I guess if the money was right and it was used to strengthen then let him go.⚽

robmonkey007 added 15:03 - May 9
Happy for him to go. For too many games he goes missing. Prefer a more consistent performer.

Paper Talk...…….

west over..... history if the money is reasonable he is gone why would the money be used to strengthen the team?

One of the few players we have who can take a man on and beat him. He has not been a world beater in the Championship but could cause havoc in Division One if he keeps fit. Would definitely keep him unless we he get a silly offer for him.

Only player in the Squad With special skills. A typical sell for Ipswich Town. Waghorn story over again.

Decent player, but a bit hit and miss - certainly replaceable.

Really willing trier and good at running with the ball, but just a lousy crosser of the ball—which is sad for a winger. Always running his heart out with little end product.

On a gut level, I can't help feeling that the club won't be able to move forward until all of Hurst's signings are gone. Rationally, I know that's unfair (to at least a couple of them), but I want us to put that period behind us!

More money for Evans pocket.

Hope he stays. If he can keep fit and play as well as he did in our first 10 games throughout the full season then he'll be one of the best players in the league next year.

A very good player in league 1 at Peterborough, certainly had his good spells for us in the championship. Would be criminal to let him go unless it's a stupid fee.

algarvefan added 15:32 - May 9
If he wants to go and earn more money, he will go if Hull are prepared to pay the fee.
If he wants gone you might as well let him go, he is for me too lightweight and injury prone and as someone else said, often goes missing during games.

For a guy who was a standout performer last season in league one if we have ANY aspirations Marcus then we need to keep him. On his day when fit in the championship he could be quality even more so league one

Dozzells_Bobblehat added 15:43 - May 9
Raycrawfordswig do you honestly believe Evans is in this for the money and that he actually makes anything from it ?

Bergholtblue added 15:45 - May 9
The squad ( & wage bill) has to be reduced. Rather someone goes for a fee than just let someone else just walk out of the door for free, as we have done in the past.

BeattiesBackPocket added 15:45 - May 9
I’m sick of the ownership being short sighted “I know let’s sell our top scorers as we need to bring a couple of million in” “oh s!*t were relegated and gonna lose 9 million next season” can we actually have a long term plan not some made up five point one that hasn’t even started yet!

BeattiesBackPocket added 15:49 - May 9
Bergholtblue 6 loanees have gone and everyone has taken a big wage cut already so the wage bill has dramatically been reduced already and that’s without those not retained.

Assume replacement for Jarrod Bowen, valuations ranging from 12 million to 20 million for Bowen, work on the basis Edwards is equivalent to 25% of this value thus £3-5 million, imagine Peterborough may have had a sell on clause to consider, feel club will cash in as even at £3 million, this represents £2.3 million profit less Peterborough's clause (if there is one).

Decent player especially going into league 1! Don’t let this happen

jayessess added 16:03 - May 9
Can't see anything happening here, to be honest. Between Edwards' inconsistency and our lack of goals and lack of experience in League One, he's a lot more valuable to us than I imagine Hull would want to pay.

Think this one is paper talk only and would hope that we keep the guy as he has league 1 experience and also makes competition with Jack L. More interesting news is that Speroni is leaving Crystal Palace and I wonder if the Bart link will now be reactivated?

martin587 added 16:24 - May 9
I think Speroni would command a high wage being in the premier league.🤔

Not the worst of Hurst's purchases (in fact started the first few games quite well)...but as said a bit hit and miss - takes players on and tries to make something happen but poor execution of crosses and awareness of players around him, might be okay in league one.
