Blues Among Clubs Linked With Striker Ball
Tuesday, 18th Jun 2019 20:02

Town are reported to be amongst a host of clubs showing interest in out-of-contract Rotherham striker David Ball.

According to the Blackpool Gazette, the 29-year-old is on Blackpool’s radar but with Bradford, where he spent most of last season on loan, also keen along with the Blues, Sunderland, Lincoln City, Tranmere Rovers along with a number of League Two teams.

Whitefield-born Ball started his career with local club Manchester City and spent time on loan at Swindon while with the Cityzens.

In 2011 the 6ft-tall frontman moved on to Peterborough on a permanent basis without having made a senior appearance for City.

After a spell on loan at Rochdale, Ball left for Fleetwood where he spent a five-year spell prior to moving to Rotherham in the summer of 2017.

While Town have already signed one striker this summer, James Norwood from Tranmere, Blues boss Paul Lambert is understood to want a second with former loanee Will Keane, a free agent following his release by Hull City, among those in his thoughts.

Lambert would almost certainly be after a striker with a better recent scoring record than Ball, who netted only five times in League One last season as the Bantams finished bottom.

However, he netted nine goals the previous year as the Millers went up via the play-offs, while he scored 14 a season earlier as Fleetwood also reached the League One play-offs.

The striker is the second released Rotherham man called Ball to have been linked this summer with defender Dominic Ball having been mentioned in connection with the Blues last week.

You/we hope that Lambert would be interested in a striker with a better scoring record than Ball! He has already signed one with a good scoring record and if we add Keane, then job done striker wise.......move on to a couple of defenders.

Not the most impressive scoring record.

not sure about this one, scores less goals in the lower leagues than sears, jackson, harrison and norwood by the looks of it.

i'd rather stick with what we have and see if one of the youth can add to that

Giovanni Dos Santos is available on a free, he's only 30... has been at LA Galaxy but you feel in L1 he'd be good. Out of our price range I'm sure... I know won't happen but how good was he for us for 8 games in 2009?

Much rather Will Keane got a chance than this guy.
I do like Tom Eaves if we are to go 2 up top too.

These sort of reports can be just an agent trying to drum up interest and get the best deal for the player and him/herself. Inevitable that Town as one of the bigger clubs in the lower divisions will get mentioned. Never take them seriously.

Looks like his scoring record is on the decline, 14 - 9 - 5 !!!

He is free we are bound to be interested in him and anyone else who is free and wants bum wages

Just looked him up out of interest....

Hard to find any videos of him in the last year....but he did seem to do quite well at Fleetwood. Unusual striker...very good first touch and seems to like placing his shots from distance. Good close control....

But I'd still much prefer Keane to sign.....

Got to be better options out there. I personally hope we go for Tom Eaves at Gillingham. Available on a free and scored nearly 40 goals at this level in the past two seasons.

We can't rely on Keane. For years we have struggled with injury prone players. Learn.

One thing to take on a youngster with potential to be prolific, entirely another to waste money(transfer or wages or both) on a forward with a distinct lack of goals. Irrespective of a players touch/passing ability etc.....if they are a forward they need to be scoring goals

I can see the headline in a years time when he's not being picked, "Ball gets deflated with under use."

If he's a first team regular, "Ball still pumped up at Town".

Phil, I'm here all week if you need me.

Could someone explain to me why we are not looking at the two fella's from Col U that are reportedly on their way to Peterborough. Wouldn't Sammie Szhmodics and Frankie Kent be good for us?
I'm not entering the 'Ball' jokes as I sphere it could get out of hand !!!!

Dos Santos was absolutely amazing for us, it would be a "dream come true" if we could get him back but I cannot ever see that happening, probably not even on PL's radar.
