No Cash Turnstiles at Home Games
Wednesday, 31st Jul 2019 15:52

Town have announced that there will be no cash turnstiles for home supporters at Portman Road from the start of the new season with fans paying on the day required to buy tickets from the Ticket Office on Constantine Road.

"The Matchday Ticket Office will be open from 9am on Saturday matchdays and from 6.15pm ahead of midweek evening games to deal with ticket sales, enquiries, upgrades and lost or forgotten season tickets for home supporters.""

Planet Blue will continue to sell tickets midweek and until 6.15pm for evening fixtures but not on Saturday matchdays.

“For a number of reasons we have switched from cash turnstiles to using the Matchday Ticket Office for purchases on the day,” Town’s head of ticketing, Donna Powell, told the club site.""

“Ideally we’d ask supporters to buy tickets online or in Planet Blue ahead of matchday but we urge those that want to leave it to matchday to buy, to arrive in plenty of time.”

Further to that change, the Ticket Enquiry Centre on Portman Road will be an away supporter ticket office only from this season where away fans are able to purchase tickets or alternatively pay cash on the turnstiles. "

Disabled fans who sit in a designated disabled area in the Co-op Stand or the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand will now enter via a new entrance next to the Matchday Ticket Office on Constantine Road. However, disabled supporters who sit in the Sir Bobby Robson disabled areas will use the same entrance as last season.

Away supporters can pay cash on the day but not Town walk up supporters?

No chance of a decent attendance this season then!!

Another master stroke!

Blue_Meanie obviously hasn't read what it says. More hassle, but still possible to buy on the day.

"For a number of reasons"? Enlighten us please as I can't think of 1 good one! Guess we won't have to worry about queueing twice, there'll be no queue at this rate!

I take it that they haven't heard of debit cards.

Must be some reasoning behind this but doesn't seem to make much sense. If somebody on a match day were to make a spur of the moment decision to want to go to a game (but say it was a bit later by then) then the extra hassle of obtaining a ticket and risking missing the start of the match might be enough to put somebody off from going. If you are held up in traffic the last thing you need is all the extra hassle of going to the ticket office rather than just paying on the turnstile.
That said, the article says, “For a number of reasons we have switched from cash turnstiles to using the Matchday Ticket Office for purchases on the day."
Would of been nice to know what the "number of reasons" were exactly as then it might make more sense.

Death of the (often) spontaneous, 'come on, let's go and watch the Town' though. Does seem a bit crazy. Can you get in using contactless like on the tube? Or is that too clever?

What an absolute joke this is, I have an hour and a half journey and with work commitments I can't always be there so it's a spur of the moment decision, this isn't just me either by the way, so well done Town I doubt we'll be coming this season now, we usually arrive about 2pm, time we've parked the time is tight, ideal to just pay on the gate, what is it with the Club now ffs..

There was never much of a queue, now you'll have one long queue and frustrated people..

If it was about cash then install debit card machines, how difficult is it? About as difficult as not running out of food BEFORE half time....the whole place is so amateurish..

Another own goal from Marcus Evans, why on earth can there not be designated cash turnstiles around the stadium. Is he trying to make it as hard as possible for fans who want to turn up at the game.....YES for goodness sake clean up the stadium you tight fisted &£#@* or sell the club.

Strikalight. Agree. Be interesting to see if the catering has improved this season, only if slightly.
Cant be any worse.
Hopefully the clubs catering manager had been part of the jobs cull.
Clueless....

I am one of those who can't pre plan to be at a match but I do on occasion just turn up. Having to go and buy a ticket is off putting and I can't see why cash or even touch card payment can't be done at the turn styles. Does ME not realise that some people's lives are not as free and easy as he thinks. Over a season how many will he lose through this I wonder? I'm not moaning because I will still on occasion go but I'm more likely to say I can't be bothered now. I'm not lazy, I just don't have that much free time to plan ahead or to get to PR early to get the ticket. I just go if I have the time and fancy going.
I'm sure there are many fans who don't bother these days because it's not made simple.
We need to get people in the ground so that they come again. Decades ago you could turn up at half time and walk in for free and I know of several people who became regular supporters after watching a couple of second halves for free and getting hooked.. Get the people in the ground - don't deter them.

I actually have an interview scheduled for Friday for a role relating to this, I shall now withdraw my interest after being made aware (or not) of these changes.

Thank goodness for that. At least i will not be stuck behind somebody at the turnstile, getting their money out and waiting for their change. ;-) Much more streamlined!
