Town Goal at Burton Awarded to Pigott
Monday, 23rd Aug 2021 11:19

Town’s goal in the recent 2-1 defeat at Burton Albion has been awarded to Blues striker Joe Pigott after a review by the EFL’s Dubious Goal Committee.

The 23rd-minute equaliser was initially recorded as an own goal by Brewers defender Tom O'Connor but it has now been given to Pigott, his first goal for the club.

“It was my goal, the defender flicked it onto me,” the former AFC Wimbledon man told the club website.

“My celebration might have been muted as I wanted to get the ball so we could keep the momentum.”

From the away end it definitely looked like an OG but I would much rather they gave it to Pigott

doesn't really matter in this sh*tty world we live in

That is certainly a dubious award from a very dubious committee. Unable to get a ticket in the away section I opted for the Burton main stand, had a perfect view, and would be very surprised if Pigott got any kind of touch on it.

Why are people being voted down just for saying in their opinion it was an OG? I don't know and don't care as long as it hits the back of the net, but grow up some of you. The way people react to facts or opinions they don't like is pathetic. It's just a goal adjudication

Monkey_blue does it really matter if you get a down or up arrow. Who cares? There are more aah souls in the world than not. It's surprising that anyone ever gets more up votes.

If Rio Ferdinand can claim that goal v Denmark in 2002 then Piggott can certainly have this one

Monkey_Blue, the function of the up/down vote buttons is for other people to indicate whether they agree or disagree with what is posted. Quite simple really.

bigolconnor I've been around long enough for me not to care. I know when I post an opinion on here it usually gets voted down even if I claimed lemons were yellow. This is the social media generation. Personally I'd prefer the vote function was removed so if you don't agree with something you actually have to argue your point, rather than just vote it down.

SouperJim It's just an OG/Goal adjudication. And as I've said, would rather the function be removed so if people disagree or agree they have to give reasons. You know debate, make a case etc. I get voted down no matter what I say because I thought MM did a good job with tight resources and I'm far from convinced by PC. This site used to be about opinions, arguments and debate. Now it's, if you don't agree with me you are my enemy.

Typically many people do both (vote and post a response) but fwiw, you might find the forum the place to go for slightly "better" debate than here on the news comments.

I tend to steer clear of the forum.

Something unnerving about men having a mass-debate over football.

Monkeyblue - well strictly speaking lemons can be green as well if they aren't ripe ones - only joking :-)

I've found myself agreeing with your posts recently more often than disagreeing if I'm honest.

I do tend to post my opinion if I downvote anyone unless the same point has already been made by someone else before me.
