Brighton Could Recall Walton Sunday, 12th Dec 2021 09:44 Brighton and Hove Albion will reportedly look to recall keeper Christian Walton from the Blues in January in order to sell him to a Championship club.
Walton joined Town in August and has established himself as the number one at Portman Road, making 14 appearances up to now.
However, according to The Sun on Sunday, the Seagulls will look to utilise their option to recall the 26-year-old in January in order to cash in on him by selling him to a Championship with his contract up in the summer when he can depart for nothing.
If the report is correct, then Town will almost certainly be keen to recruit Walton on a permanent basis after an impressive first few months at Portman Road.
Former Everton and Scotland defender David Weir, who works as player pathway manager at Brighton and monitors the progress of their loan players, was at yesterday's 1-1 draw at Wigan.

Also think if someone comes in for Norwood, he will be off judging on his celebration yesterday and the way he has been treated. Hope not as I think we need him.

This is when the ‘board' need to be be positive and make a statement by agreeing a deal with Brighton NOW !! He is by far the best Keeper at the Club right now.

Mac2812 ….. get real pal - Walton won't be in the least affected by that ‘push' - they are not all limp wrists. It's Football, not Ping Pong. That would never be a decision to join the Club permanently or not, but the ‘push' should not be condoned and delt with if appropriate by the Club. End of.

Did somebody just say the way Norwood has been treated?! He is very very lucky that he hasn't been sacked and had his contract terminated.

At the end of the day, the sad fact is, it could be out of our hands. Even if we could afford the transfer fee, which I'm sure we could, his wages would likely be the stumbling block. Would he be willing to take a large cut in pay to sign? We don't have much leeway on the wage budget so may be an impossible deal.

If your team's foundation is built on loan players then your team hasn't really got any foundations at all. In the absence of any currently better options he is a must buy.

Bossman we have yet to reach the Championship ! and that wont be happening this season. .

Our chances of reaching the playoffs were slim before this news but I think they are nonexistent if Walton leaves and we have to make do with Hladky and Holy. I thought Bonne was the player we must keep in Jan but now I think Walton is more important

Worth signing but we shouldn't be held to ransom. We shouldn't pay over the odds for any player. Buying a player during a hot streak of form can often meaning paying over the odds. If we'd have signed Bonne from QPR a few weeks back I expect the price asked would have been a lot higher than they could ask right now (given the goals have dried up some in recent weeks). I'm all for showing ambition but we don't want to spend way more than what is a fair price for any given player. So definitely worth putting a decent offer in for Walton but we don't want to get drawn into a bidding war with a Championship rival and spend over the odds, as do that too often and it's only a matter of time before it will will eventually come back and bite you hard on the bum! You move up the leagues by being shrewd in the market like Brentford have done (and getting great value for money on their signings in general), if you put too many of your eggs in the wrong over priced baskets you're almost certainly doomed to fail (as we found out to our great cost with Roy Keane's misplaced spending).

Just realised the source is the Sun on Sunday! No idea how they come up with valuations on this site (and they could be well wide of the mark), they are valuing him at £720k on here which sounds a fair price. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-walton/profil/spieler/208379 I'm sure a Championship team would be prepared to stretch to £1 million (possibly more) which isn't that much in the modern game by any means!

Best goalkeeper i've seen at the club in decades.....possibly ever. Would be the most important signing we could make. Fingers crossed.

Unfortunately next Wednesday he will be on Display in front of the nation with us on BBC.?? That could mean an auction, although what I see in the Championship they have got a helluva a lot of Good Goalkeepers already.!!! So please leave him with us Mr Brighton. Cookie !! we should have kept Cornell instead of investing in a league 1 goalkeeper as a No. 2

It's still up to Walton whether he actually wants to sign for the proposed club

Waltons the best keeper I've seen at our club for years. Brillant at taking crosses under pressure and above Bart cause he's good with the ball at his feet. Likely he'll leave for the lure of the championship as we are not challenging for anything at this point, which is a big blow.

Lets think about this,if brighton have a buyer they would recall him now just so he does not get injured seems a bit strange to me.

ThaiBlue. They can't recall him now. The rules surrounding loans don't allow recalls for season long loans, other than if agreed by the clubs involved. And only in the January transfer window.
Monkey_Blue added 13:04 - Dec 13
He's been ok overall, but I wouldn't panic about us being able to sign someone as good if not better on loan in January. There's a lot of good keepers twiddling their thumbs at bigger clubs. Given most premier league clubs will have a keeper or two they want to get competitive games it should be relatively easy.

Reality of being 3rd tier. Would be a big loss.
Monkey_Blue added 13:44 - Dec 13
Blues1 what makes you think Walton is currently on more than most of our bigger summer signings as brightons 3rd/4th choice keeper? I suspect we have more than a handful on well over £10k a week.

docsavage52… how has Norwood been treated badly? He's been injured half his time at the club, is on very good money as we out paid what Charlton could when they were still a championship club and is a serial drunk driver who acts on social media like he's some kind of superstar.
Linkboy13 added 17:11 - Dec 13
docsavage52 The way Norwood's treated the club he's lucky to have a job always supposedly injured probably pi55ed. If anyone is daft enough to offer us a fee for him i would snap their hands off.
BeattiesBackPocket added 22:09 - Dec 13
Hopefully a few idiots at Charlton who also had a pop at him (baring in kind he was our best player that night and didn't deserve any cr&p) won't have put him off coming if we chose to buy him
