Celina Nominated For EFL Goal of the Season
Friday, 22nd Apr 2022 12:04

Forward Bersant Celina’s brilliant chip in the 2-1 home win against Crewe in November has been nominated for the 2022 EFL Goal of the Season award.

The Kosovan international will discover whether he has carried off the gong at Sunday’s EFL Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane.

Also nominated are Morecambe’s Cole Stockton for a strike in a home game against AFC Wimbledon, Alex Mowatt for his goal for West Brom away against Cardiff, QPR’s Andre Gray for netting at Derby, Ben Wilmot of Stoke at home to Preston and Barry Bannan for Sheffield Wednesday at the MK Dons.

"At the time, Celina described the goal, which he scored just before half-time, as his “best so far”. It won the League One Goal of the Month award for November.

Town are also in the running for the EFL's Kin + Carta Family Club of the Year award along with MK Dons and Sheffield United. Fans can follow developments at awards live on the Sky Sports app from 7pm.

I may be biased, but Celina's one was so good because you don't see goals like that often at all. The touch the bring it down was Berbatov'esque and then followed by a Cantona'esque chip into the top corner. It might be the best goal I've ever seen from a Town player.

Celina wins that easy for me, because there were not one but two excellent elements to it. The fabulous control in a tight space, and the absolute precision required of the finish. There were some great power strikes there with fantastic connections into the top corner, but we've all done that! The only one that comes close is Andre Gray, which reminded me of Frank Worthington.

3 great hits and 3 great lobs/chips

But only 1 had the magnificent control beforehand

I agree Celina for me, Wilmot's and Bannan's were both great strikes but Celina had that incredible touch before the lob right in the top corner

Celina all day! I agree with all the comments above but it all starts with that run from the left to get into that tiny little pocket between 3 defenders and the tekkas to get that ball down.....!! Outrageous is right!!

The only player at the club who could have scored that quality of goal. Opinion seems to be divided on whether he's the player that he's hyped up to be. His form has dipped in the last few games but in my opinion form is temporary class is permanent and i would definitely keep him for next season if possible. A lot of fans even rate Aluko above him and although Aluko has exciting ball skills that are good on the eye he hasn't got that killer pass in him and creates few chances not one to my knowledge this season.

Only one winner and a strong reason why we need to have him here next season. He's a class act, I love to watch him play. Luxury? Possibly but he can change games and unlock packed defences. He hasn't done that enough but under KM's guidance I think he could be key.
