Seoane: Not What We Expected
Friday, 2nd Aug 2024 18:25

Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Gerardo Seoane says his club are very unhappy at having played the Blues’ U21s rather than the first team

“It’s not what we expected, we’re very unhappy about this and the agency should have done a better job with this game,” he said afterwards. “It’s different if you play U21s or first team.”

Seoane felt his back four and particularly the full-back positions weren’t particularly challenged.

"That annoys a coach,” he added. “You want an opponent on the other side who has power and a certain level of quality in terms of personnel.

“That it can be dangerous if a Joe Scally or Luca Netz makes a mistake, but we naturally allowed very little of that.”

The Swiss-born coach was disappointed with his team’s display overall.

“It was not a good performance from us,” he reflected. “We had too many passing errors and technical errors. The rate of our own errors was too high. We never got into our rhythm.

“The players' tired legs were noticeable at times - and also tired heads. Sometimes we played forward too hastily instead of taking a second or third touch. We made some wrong decisions in our game.”

So your players made errors as they were given a stronger game than you thought yet you moan about it.

I get why they are upset but ultimately we have to do what’s right for us. I’m sure given we planned it McKenna would have preferred to play first team v first team but I can think of at least 4 first teamers who can’t play. Perhaps he felt back to back games would be pushing our luck further? Injuries are always a possibility so it’s also possible we expected to have more additions through the door by now when arranging the game.

I still don't get why we couldn't play
Walton
Tuanzebe
Woolfenden
Burgess
Townsend
Taylor
Humphreys
Ladapo
Harness
And a couple of kids

Most of the main players free for tomorrow and we keep our credibility.

Instead of moaning having rolled very slightly our U21s best look at their own form having missed relegation by a point last season plus goal difference.
“Not what is expected”

He has got a point, if they had done this to us we would be moaning!

1960H… exactly. People would be throwing tantrums left, right and centre. It’s regrettable and unless there are new injuries we don’t know about, perhaps we could have let them know earlier?

I’m afraid we have to accept this criticism. KM and MA should issue a formal apology. This isn’t good enough under any circumstances.

Jas0999. Rubbish. So we should risk more injuries by having 1st team players playing twice in 2 days, and possibly leave ourselves short for the start of the season. This happens a lot. Liverpool did it also, playing their u23s. Was a game, cancelled last week. At least we played the game. Could just have easily of cancelled it, and left them without a game at all. We have to do what's right for us. And we couldn't afford the risk.

Monkey blue. Wouldn't have given a toss if it had been the other way round. It's a friendly. All about fitness.

Bluemike31. You've named 9 1stxteam players there. If we'd played all of those today, we wouldn't have enough players for tomorrow. Also, mckenna clearly wants to have squad of all 1st team players for tomorrows game,,with the season only 2 weeks away.

I agree with head coach and Technical Director. There was a contract in place. Regardless of the circumstances this could cost us.
We are not the financial bully boys of L1 and the Championship any more. We are completing will the big boys now - this is definitively a mis step.
I have concerns that Ashton is now both the Chairman and and Ceo - we could see more of these gaffs moving forward.
We need to wake and smell the coffee and not see everything through blue smoke!
Times have changed.....

I think Town come out of this very badly. Not a good start to the next chapter - surely it is obvious that that BM would want stronger opposition for their own sake and a friendly is definitely not about 'doing what is right for us' but doing what is right for both.

Notice how Blues1 NEVER posts something original first themselves. Always sitting on the telegraph wire above the traffic like a flatulent pigeon, waiting to drop on anyone who dares venture an opinion by posting first. In other words: a self-important troll.

Whoisjimmyjuan oh dear. Whatva sad man you are. Only one troll on here. Thsts you. Like one or 2 others , never on here unless you have the chance to slag off the club or another poster. Maybe thexreason I dont get to post 1st is im not on here all day, so rarely see a,story before others have already posted. The fact you can't reply without using abuse sums you up. I may criticise some posters sometimes but never resort to abuse. Just fed up of fans constantly moaning and slagging the club off. They've ill occasionally get things wrong. Maybe they should have made the decision earlier in the week. But the usual response of some fans is over the top as usual. I guarantee you, had the played the 1st team in both of these games and we'd picked up more injuries, and have to put out azweak team v Liverpool, the same fans criticising this, decision would be moaning about that. The club has a duty of care to our players. Not to just do what suits another club.

Given the rumoured injuries I don’t believe we had a choice. It’s unfortunate but nobody could predict this. And MA is a smart operator so I’m sure he explained this to BMG. He’s not stupid.

I do find it strange we arranged two games in two days. That indicates we were viewing these more as practice run outs and it may never have been our intent to field full strength teams. Seems BMG may have had different expectations here …

Erm, here's my thought on all this waste of hot air: aren't we over there to improve fitness and get the players (of all ages) some minutes in their legs? Aren't we doing that?

Our job is not to appease the opposing manager and his cheesed off team - we're over there to get our players fit, mentally and physically - even if that means having to amend the fixtures.

Just my 10p worth.

Blah blah blah, years ago I took my then girlfriend and her young girls to see a show at Portman road with the main artists being Sclub 7 who didnt come out as they were feeling poorly, but the Sclub 7 juniors came out! Yes the kids were disappointed but sometimes things happen, live with it!

And perhaps if they were tired and making mistakes it was a blessing for them as the men might have embarrassed them!

For me our priority is our team, end of!!
