Wednesday Eyeing Clarke
Wednesday, 8th Jan 2025 16:59

Blues right-back Harry Clarke is understood to be on Sheffield Wednesday’s January radar

Rumours suggesting Owls interest in the 23-year-old began circulating on the TWTD Forum yesterday and the Sheffield Star is now reporting that Wednesday are among a number of Championship clubs eyeing the former Arsenal academy youngster.

It would be little surprise if Town were to allow Clarke out on loan for the remainder of the season with the recruitment of Ben Godfrey from Atalana for the remainder of the campaign having added to the right-sided defensive options.

The Ipswich-born, Brantham-raised defender has made four starts and three sub appearances during 2024/25 having been a regular during the Championship promotion season and the second half of the previous campaign as the Blues finished second in League One, having rejoined his boyhood club from the Gunners in the January.

Elsewhere, West Ham have sacked manager Julen Lopetegui after six months in charge with former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter, who was once interviewed for the Town job, expected to succeed him.

Will always be a true blue but I think he deserves to go and get some regular footy.

Good move for all of it happens. Clarke's Ipswich story doesn't have to be over. He can keep developing his game!

Will always be loved by the fans here wherever he ends up, but the bottom line is the club is determined to press forward and stay in the PL, and to do that a few of our promotion winners will move on.
Will always be regarded as one of our own

This would be a good move for all parties, Harry is still young enough to develop his game, however, at the moment he is not good enough for the PL and we need better quality and experience.

Surely a perm move rather than a loan?

Good stuff! Loan be good as he is good Championship defender and can still improve, some be sold I think though, Chaplin and Burns my favourites to go can't see who else it would be, could or should be.

Unfortunately Clarkey is not quite good enough at premier league level,as it clearly showed in the Brentford match.
He did great for us in our two promotion campaigns, but now we require an upgrade in Godfrey. That's football I'm afraid.
Sheffield Wednesday are a super club, with plenty of ambition and would be a very good move for Harry, if it goes through.

This would be a shame. He's probably not quite PL is he sadly. Means we'd lose our WAG too.

Always be thankful to him if he leaves. Played a massive part in the renaissance of his home town club and looked like he's loved every min of it. Genuine and proper blue

Loan would be good. If we go down he could still be an important player for us next season. True blue whatever he decides.

Understandable move. When was Potter interviewed by us?

If I had Clarke or Wolfenden, to go it would be Harry I'm afraid, fantastic, character but we do need better good luck to him

Best of luck Harry. You need regular football at your age. If a loan, then show us what we need to see. If a permanent move, then you go with my many thanks. You have shown that you love our football club and for that, I wish you all the best and thanks for the memories.

Yesterday Wolfy, today Harry. Are they trying to rip the heart from our club? If you solely judge Harry on that Brentford performance (his PL debut) then that shows the level of your football IQ. I 100% think he has potential to do a good job at RWB in this new system we are playing. Bringing in someone like Godfrey (36 games in 3.5 seasons) to replace the like of Harry/Wolfy is truly heartbreaking.

If only McKenna knew what he was doing. Oh wait - he does.

Ip9.......I've been to virtually every home game since 1976,through all the highs & many lows and also played the game at a reasonable level.
So I think I know a little bit about football.
And no I didn't judge him,on just one game!

LeeJames you already know I disagree with your Chaplin and Burns opinions but surely Harry and Mass are the obvious two ?
Ogbene is out for the season and Omari now out for few weeks . Why would we lose our only other natural right winger ? Chappers has played well in his last few games and the same applies with him , we aren't blessed with many fit '10's.

Godfrey was bought by Atlanta ,who are flying in Italy 2nd in their league, for 12 million and we have him on loan and Carlo Ancellotti (Real Madrid Manager) signed him for 27.5 million from Norwich and he was called up for England
Town paid nothing for Woolfeden and a 7 figure fee for Clarke (around 1.5 million).
Currently Woolfenden is worth 7-8 million maybe 10 and H Clarke 5- 7 million so selling both of them be good profit, it is not even a question as to who is the better player.
Wes Burns Town paid 150 - 250 k now worth 4 - 5 million and Chaplin we got for £750,000 and now worth 8- 10 million so if those 4 were sold be great business from Town.
I'm Mckenna & Ashton we trust!

Dozzells_bobblehat because Burns and Chaplin are commodities with value and profit, we will have right wing soon, Doak can play either side, Szmodicks did great there, Broadhead, Ben Godfrey can play right wing back with Davis on left in front back 3, loads different options.
Don't think Chaplin will want to warm bench when he could be star man again somewhere else, if those who served us so well in League one and Championship were real prem quality then Prem clubs would try to sign them or they would have a place cemented in the team and we wouldn't be looking to add upgrades.
Just my opinion, Luongo isn't going to command much of a fee now and he will get offered coaching role, Ogbene will be great next year again and Hutch back soon
Selling Chaplin and Burns, Woofeden and H Clarke be good business for the club in terms P & L (profit & loss)
All 4 of those players have been incredible but every player has a price and move on in their careers from where they were once heroes, its just the nature of the game.

They served us well but to progress we need to progress to stay in Premier League or at worst a team that can get us back up with relative ease but I see us staying up at present with Southampton, Leicester, Everton or Wolves going down.
All opinions that's all.

LeeJames none of Broadhead, Szmodics or Godfrey are a right winger , Ogbene is but we won't see him this year so I just can't see it but who knows. Harry I suspect is the most likely to go on loan or permanent. Wolf I can see possibly happening but I personally wouldn't . How do you know Mass will be joining the coaching staff ?

I would not let Clarke or Wolfy go in January .

Leejames99 added 22:41 - Jan 8
Broadhead can play left or right, Szmodicks was on right vs Fulham and Godfrey can play right wing back but we are getting new right winger in to compete with Omari hence bid for Doak (he can also play both wings).
I'm only presuming Massimo might be offered coaching role.
Morsy to Chesterfield to reunite with Cook......joking

If he joins sheffield he could be one of the few town players still playing next year in the 1st division if we go down....
