Town to Sign Norwich Midfielder Nunez
Wednesday, 27th Aug 2025 21:07

Town are set to sign Norwich City midfielder Marcelino Nunez in a £10 million deal.

The Chilean is understood to be in Ipswich to complete the formalities on the switch for £7.5 million up front plus a further £2.5 million in add-ons.

The 25-year-old, who currently has a minor ankle problem, joined the Canaries from Universidad Catolica in the summer of 2022 and has gone on to make 86 starts and 33 sub appearances, scoring 12 goals, including the free-kick which won the East Anglian derby for Norwich at Carrow Road in 2023/24.

Nunez, who has been capped 30 times by his country, scoring three goals, has a year left on his contract and has turned down new terms on two occasions.

Norwich are reported to be signing Silkeborg’s Pelle Mattsson for £2.7 million as his replacement.

Town have been looking to add to their central midfield options this summer with skipper Sam Morsy, Massimo Luongo and loanee Kalvin Phillips having departed over the summer.

The last player to make the move from Carrow Road to Portman Road on a permanent basis was keeper Andy Marshall in the summer of 2001, while other players have represented both clubs since then on a full-time or loan basis over the course of their careers, including David Wright, David Healy, Alan Lee, Matthew Bates, Kevin Lisbie and Brandon Williams.

Among those who represented both clubs on a permanent basis prior to that were Clive Woods, Trevor Putney, John Deehan, Louie Donowa, Clive Baker, Johnny Miller and Keith Bertschin.

Off the field, former Norwich striker Joe Royle managed the Blues, Paul Lambert both sides, while current Canaries boss Liam Manning, his assistant Chris Hogg and first-team coach/analyst James Krause are all former Town academy players and staff.

What’s the betting he is another Camara and we hardly ever see him in a Town shirt.

Good player when fit, but therein lies the problem

Why do we keep buying players who aren’t ready to play straight away?

Manning literally said other day he’s only out for for few weeks. And we’ve got international break coming up too. So hopefully fit for at least second game after that break. I’m loving this signing personally. Gone in and grabbed their best midfielder who made a point of pushing to come here…annoy a load of budgies and get a top quality cm at the same time. What’s not to like

Oh dear oh dear. My son in law who supports Norwich is thrilled, he says he misses so many games and never worth 10 million. He says its good business for Norwich. Not thrilled at any of our signings this season if I'm honest and last year either, Delap and Hutchinson were the exceptions. We seem to want to spend a fortune on bang average players who I'm not confident are going to improve us.

Well this wasnt on my season bingo card but would be a more than welcome signing. Yes he's from Narwich but he is a good player and would do well for us

Just seen his record 88 starts in 3 seasons, injury list is long! Many bin dippers shocked that his going to us and just as many saying excellent deal for a sometimes brilliant player to a non existent player with injuries! So i guess we will find out for ourselves

Get him in, then on deadline day sign Sargent. That would send the canary fans into the levels of hell with anger.

Like this, bit of a surprise but will hope be a very good addition.

Yet another strange signing...a bit like the McAteer one, I've seen him a few times but has never really done it for me. A bit ruff and tumble sort of player and flatters to deceive.

So Hackney is obviously not coming here and probably staying put at Boro after their good start?...a bit underwhelming if this is the case.

Potentially the exact sort of player we could do with, Muhren and Thijssen aside he reminds me very much of our all time great and favourite midfielder of mine Colin Viljoen, unfortunately Viljoen was a bit of a sick note as well!!!!

How about Sargent to follow to really piss them off

Have to admit, I'm a bit on the fence with this one.Just have to trust Mckennas judgement.
Hopefully we'll still sign the ex Brum lad and the Norwegian wonder kid.

The skum's best player (besides Sargent, probably) REJECTING a new deal twice and begging to join the mighty Town. You couldn't have made it up! Now we should make a move for Sargent as well...

Awesome signing and it is the selling teams fans in situations like these that are unhappy. For us it is funny and brilliant. Also Nunez appears in the wonderful Onel Hernandez vlogs sometimes and he seems a very nice chap.

Pleased with this next the Norwegian and the Uruguay chap and 1 or 2 more and we should be up there if mc kenna is as good as they say.

Not another midget!
We need some physicality in this league, as shown at Preston, but KM clearly thinks differently.
Can’t say I’m excited with this signing, but hope I’m proven wrong.

I was watching a video today of the players at a Foundation event, what has been done for this club in the past 3 years or so is amazing, also what it has done for the town too. I get fed up seeing people moaning on here expecting us to sign Champions League players or similar. Don't care where the lads from or if he is carrying a knock, if he's good that's good enough for me.
Let's get behind the lads, I suspect this isn't the last one in and I'm sure, under difficult circumstances, the club is doing it's best. COYB!!!

Injuries or not, I think the very fact that the budgies have imploded with this news tells us all we need to know. Essentially its £7.5m add ons may or may not happen. I tbink the reason Scum have sold to us is because the drinking lush is no longer associated with that club. The American owner is a businessman first and firemost and sees it without emotion, as does Town
