Taylor Rejoins Posh On Loan
Thursday, 26th Sep 2013 13:35

Striker Paul Taylor has rejoined his former club Peterborough United on loan until November 2nd. The 25-year-old is in need of games as he continues his comeback after 11 months out with a serious foot injury.

Manager Mick McCarthy told the club site: “Tayls was out for a long time with his injury and needs to be playing games week in, week out.

"At the moment, he's not been able to do that here. Going out on loan gives him that opportunity to get that match sharpness that he needs.

"Over the short term the loan will benefit Tayls, but over the long term it will benefit Tayls and us."

Peterborough want Taylor to replace frontman Lee Tomlin, who suffered an ankle injury earlier in the week.

Manager Darren Ferguson told the Posh official site that chairman Darragh MacAnthony instigated the move: "I had a conversation with the chairman on Wednesday afternoon. We were aware that Lee had his scan in the evening and that we were getting the results on Thursday morning.

"He suggested Paul Taylor and, I have to be honest, I didn't think of him because I didn't think we could do a deal. However, Ipswich have allowed him to come out and get games, so I thank Mick McCarthy for making the deal happen.

"I was quite happy to go with what I had, but when it became clear we could get him, I couldn't turn that opportunity down. Paul is a very good player and that is why he got the move he did.

"When you get player on loan, it sometimes takes quite a long time to settle and get to know everyone, but Paul knows the place and the lads. He knows how we want to play, which is the important thing.

"He can play two or three different positions and I think it is a very good signing for us, there is no question about that. I am glad that I had the conversation with the chairman!"

MacAnthony added on Twitter: "Some minor bad news on injury front but some great news that we have signed Tayls back for a few weeks to help us. #goals&flair.

"Big Mick & M Evans incredibly helpful as well making this loan happen. Cheers Ipswich!"

Town can recall the striker from the League One club after the first 28 days of his spell.

Taylor joined the Blues from Posh for a fee of £1.5 million rising to £2.5 million in August 2012 but the Liverpudlian suffered a serious foot injury in only his third game for his new club.

This season he has made three Championship appearances from the bench as well as starting the Capital One Cup match at Stevenage.

During Taylor's absence McCarthy could view veteran frontman Alan Lee or youngster Jack Marriott - who we understand has travelled with the first team squad in recent weeks - as his fourth striker behind David McGoldrick, Daryl Murphy and Frank Nouble.

Alternatively, the Blues boss could look at bringing in his own short-term signing while Taylor is at London Road. The recently linked Sylvan Ebanks-Blake would appear an unlikely candidate for that role given that he will be a long way from full fitness having not played a game since April when he suffered a broken leg and ankle ligament damage.

Good, but also very sad about this :(

Does this make the Ebanks-Blake short term deal more likely I wonder?

So does this mean ebanks-Blake is on his way? I can't see us just having the 3 first team strikers.

SEB will still be injured for the duration of Taylor's loan.

Taylor should be starting for us IMO.

Not sure, but assume Ebanks-Blake is even shorter on match fitness than Taylor as he's not played a game since April.

Not happy about this.. Sounded like he made an impact off the bench on Sunday playing out wide and was pushing for a start this weekend. Hope this means Ebanks Blake signs though, I can't bare to see Nouble coming off the bench - so poor.

I'm not a big fan of this decision. Taylor looked more than good enough and fit enough when he came on at Wigan. Hopefully it's just a short term thing and he figures in McCarthy's plans because he is definitely one of our best players. Everyone is saying about Ebanks-Blake and i agree he'd be a good signing but he's less fit to play now than Taylor is.

Good. It's probably what he needs to get up to speed for us.

Not all that comfortable about this myself, and as has already been mentioned, I hope it does mean something is in the pipeline because we're light enough up front as it is.

One thing I will say - if Taylor gets his fitness up and gets to play alongside someone in as good form as Britt Assombalonga, it could well pay dividends when he comes back.

Taylor is simply not good enough for Ipswich. A lightweight at Championship level.

I am content with this, provided it is only until November 2nd

how strange , how stupid as he could play in our team either left right or upfront , 3 positions where guile are needed

If we had players in good form and scoring for fun this would be good news, but with us struggling to hit the net this looks to me like an indication that Taylor is on the way out of ITFC. £1.5M down the drain?

Sensible move. It gives him 5 games to get his fitness up. Praying there's no relapse because he needs to be starting for us sooner rather than later...

hmm as always there will be more to this than meets the eye...

Hmmm not sure - if we replace him - great
I saw him at Notts County pre season was limping abit but scored a great freekick
Stevenage much the same - although most players were poor that night!
The QPR game was probabaly the most telling - going on and coming off was unusual !! to say the least
Me thinks he is not top the old MM xmas card list - it was not his player and not sure he ever will be
For what it matters I think he is quite an effective player out wide probably better than Anderson or Edwards at the moment BUT MM knows best
I hope Anderson comes good and we now go and land SEB or someone else in same type
A behind closed doors match leads me to think there may be afew out there !!

This move makes no sense. Why not play Taylor off the bench to get his fitness up to speed, rather than relying on Murphy and Nouble? Why only a recall clause after 28 days and not 24 hours as clubs normally have when we loan players off them?!

Clear as day that mick has some sort of problem with taylor, this only highlights that. Mick has harped on about him needing game time, which is why i find it amazing he didnt bring him on more during games this season. Start with 10 mins off the bench then gradually build itbup. It obv mick just hasnt been interested in doing that. Hope something is lined up because as demonstrated at wigan we aeent prolific enough as it is

Seems like a sensible move for all concerned. Posh are near the top of the table and have a good start to the campaign so he's not going into a struggling team. Plus, they're in need of a player in that position because of a key injury. Taylor needs games and he's going somewhere he knows a lot of the lads and the manager, plus not far to travel. Ipswich need him fit and in a winning frame of mind.

I went to Wigan on Sunday and I didn't think he looked match fit. He was blowing as soon as he came on. He showed some good touches and he did pretty well, but he's just short of match fitness, if not by much.

If, however, there's more to this and he joins them later on a free or a reduced fee I will be very annoyed.

Great move. See you in a few weeks time Tayls, fully match fit and raring to go, ready for our push into the playoffs

ernie - that's the rules for emergency loans of outfield players (section 53.3.9). The minimum is 28 days, only goalies can be recalled sooner. The "24 hours" bit is just how much notice the loaning club usually gives of an intended recall (but I think is down to the agreement signed between the clubs, rather than mandated by the FL).
